What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

Microsoft force feedback 2 - it helped me bring terror to many jumpgate pilots , and it'll do the same again in Elite Dangerous muhahahahhahaha :D

I used my X52 - Pro for that. Looks like I'll be dusting it off for Elite Dangerous.

What ever happened to jumpgate? Wasn't there supposed to be a Sequel?

Controller preferances

I'll be using my thrustmaster cougar hotas with rudder pedals...

As long as you have 'joystick' support I can make that work, it'd be nice if you had all the mappings (sending the programming file to upload to it), however if you don't I'll be making one immediately.

Wow.... hand supports on the side of the sticks for those extra long sessions when your hands might tire.... all its missing is an automatic electrical shock system to the user just in case they ever fall asleep.... and a beer fridge.

....ill be using the keyboard.

As I've posted before I have a Saitek X52.

In the past I've just used an ordinary office seat & desk, but that mounts the joystcik to high for comfortable logn term use and I've never been very comfortable in that office seat anyway.

So I've also started to build one of these. It's aimed at motor sim racing but I think I can modify it to suit, easily.

I've recently bought the seat suit and I've cut up so far about 4 meters of PVC pipe and expect I'll need another 6 all up. I'm going to mount the joystick & throttle on either side using (yet another) T piece and 90 degree elbow, basiclly right beside the end of the seat. I'm also planning on some uprights behind the seat for the rear speakers.

I've got plans in my head to mount a keyboard underneath where the steering wheel goes.

With some luck I'll be able to mount the Xbox wireless racing wheel (For Forza) as well, but that is secondary to the task.

Don't you need 3 hands to use it though? :S

Nope.

If i'm just gonna go into full gushing mode here - the throttles are placed on the side of the sticks which makes sense since throttles are basically a simple slider (back/forth) - the sticks have enough fully programmable buttons to pretty much play any game without ever having to move your hands.

The dual sticks is perfect for a space game with Newtonian physics, after all theres a reason why the space shuttle had a dual stick setup. :)

/gushing off

I don't have a game Controller for the PC yet, so I will have to buy one. (also, I'll Need a graphics Card :)).
I have wireless Controller for our XBox, so I think I will look in this direction. But it all depends on what is best for E:D...

So, I'll Need some suggestions anyway... :D

I have a lot of flight sims so I will be using a Ms FFB joystick fitted with an X52 handle, Logitech G940 throttle/rudder pedals using a Leo Bodnar board and 2 Thrustmaster MFDs

Finally got my xbox360 wireless controller adapter fixed so I will be using this now :D having seen the amount of controllers frontier have littered around the office It looks like the logical choice for me :D

I'll have to try the new XBox One controller. It claims to have much improved analogue sticks than the 360 one.

Well its not quite as simple as a new gfx card as that may not yield any performance increase, if your RAM and CPU and MOBO aren't up to the job.

My suggestion is to start looking around now for bundle offers. I got an i5 with Asus mobo and SSD, added 16GB RAM to it. Also I've not used the stock CPU cooler and bought a soopa cool one, and overclocked the CPU from 3.2GHz to 4.2Ghz. And will do the same with the gfx. Asus offer a cool little auto tuning utility which gradually overclocks your pc as you use it until it reaches optimum speed, hence a damn good cooler.

I had recently, obtained an extra 30fps in Counter strike by upgrading mobo/cpu/ram and kept my old gfx card. (although for ED after the beta testing) i'll probably buy a new card myself, but the beta is for me to learn what i'll need for gfx and controller.

Went to a garage sale earlier today and picked up a X52 Pro Flight Control System for €25. Little worn around the edges and the mouse controller looks a little ragged but that will do me thanks very much

Apart from the oblivious that its wireless, would a wired Xbox controller be just as good as long as its got decent length? am thinking saving on batteries/charging.

Also noticed two versions a Common controller at 19.99 or wired controller at 42.99 i cant see the difference? both are wired and apart from colour look the same.

and lastly is the new oneXbox controller worth waiting for?

Both function in the same way. Don't be fooled in to thinking you can use a wireless but plug it in with a 'plug n charge' adapter, it only charges and does not use the cable to send controller instructions, which is still done wirelessly.

I use my wired 360 controller with my PC when ever possible / suitable. Works well.

Technically wired is better, as it's got lower latency, but I think the wireless one is only 4ms, so I'd be surprised if you could notice the difference. I use wired though, as I don't like using batteries myself, and it makes the controller a bit lighter. The wired one is the perfect weight for me.

Depending how close to the screen your chair/sofa is, the cable may/may not be long enough. It's longer than a SNES controller cable though...

Unless it's much more expensive, or your current need is great, I'd wait out. The sticks are supposed to be better, the d-pad is much improved, and there's some cool new force-feedback stuff.

@Slawkenbergius to.........cheers for the replies, i think wired will be fine then for what i want, but am in no hurry as its for ED, so as Slawkenbergius suggested i will see how the OneXbox controller fares in reviews when out and if good probably go for that, but nice to know i have a backup to, thanks again guys.
