What's the Brand New Feature for ED in 2024?

The new feature is going to be revealed on the Livestream on 30th October, according to The Buur Pit's latest update video.
I really hope that it's atmospheric planets, although do wonder if this would be considered a 'new' feature, rather than an evolution of an existing one. So maybe it's fauna roving the thin atmosphere planets... pretty please....

However, knowing my strike-rate, it'll likely be something multiplayer or combat oriented. Neither of which appeal very much to me.

In any event, I look forward to the sky falling in on the forum in a month's time.... ;)

unfortunately i share your thoughts, all changes/features frontier brought to the game since odyssey are (in my view) relative easy to impement adaptions like expanding existing functionalities/tuning/artwork stuff. nothing fundametal new stuff which is maybe understandable if they don´t earn money with this game. anyhow, still a great timeless game even without breathtaking new functionalities

I'd like to think/hope that the sales from early access and pre-built ships might have given them positive feedback as to the game's enduring appeal, and the appetite for more paid expansions.

But I have no way of knowing what they expected or received, and would think that any such a fillip wouldn't generate onbvious results in such a short time span.

So. It's back to twiddling my thumbs for a month....

yes hope so too but cannot really believe. i think the increased prices for the cosmetics will probably reduce the number of players which are willing to pay for them. i had found it a more clever way to monetarize the game in separation modules from the game like the old horizon add on. so lets say the whole thargoid war is a payable dlc extension, and a probable enhanced pp2.0 could be a dlc module, and i would be very happy to pay for exploration addon like the mentioned increased variety of landable planets ....

Never a truer word said!

We are just weeks away from the 3rd new ship, which, as with the 2 that preceeded it, has had both enthusiastic and quite negative comments passed.

In general forum menbers agree that the game 'needs' new stuff, but whatever happens, it wasn't that 'new stuff' they meant :ROFLMAO:

ETA: As Frontier stated "This will be an exciting new addition to the core gameplay"

Perhaps we should consider that "core" indicates that it would be in both Horizons & Odyssey (so negates any atmo body addition) and is an addition to the 3 core features, exploration, trade and combat, all of which has progression to elite. (the 3 EDO elite ranks cannot be 'core' as they are only available to EDO players).

Still curious what might be considered core gameplay, naturally.

From Cosmo's original list of candidates, I marked the ones that could be in both Horizons & Odyssey:

NO - Ship interiors
NO - Base building, mining resources
YES -Station management
YES -New planet types and biomes
NO - EVA outside a ship in space
YES -Deep NPC interaction with AI voices
NO -On foot VR mode
??? Procedural cities on planets
YES - Guild system for player groups
NO -Hunt procedural alien wildlife
YES 😊 - Something else

Did I miss anything?

Well, I am still over a month away from the 2nd new ship and won't have to worry about the 3rd before January.
That's fine, each of us supports the game in whichever way we see fit.
I'm sure that by the time you get the Mandalay, every one of its foibles would have been discussed in depth, and you will be able to copy the suggested builds with some confidence.

I'm enough of a shipbuilder myself to not need any suggested builds. All I need is the ship on EDSY/Coriolis to plan it. The modules for the Python II were in storage and engineered long before I got the ship, same currently with the modules for the T8.

It's going to be drinks at the bar!
How does it add to the core gameplay?
The intoxication will severely affect the responsiveness of the ship's/SRV's controls, of the aiming, and walking in general.
For non EDO players, there will be a new option on the station's panel to order the delivery of alcoholic beverages straight to your pilot chair.
If this proves successful, a new class of limpets will be introduced, and the Beer Rats will be born.

The Titans were just... turning stuff on? The spire sites offered nothing new?

I mean, I agree that they're not given as much attention to Odyssey as they should have, the on foot stuff is just sort of sitting there unattended. And that the incessant emphasis on the Thargoid war has gotten stale. But to say that Frontier's done absolutely nothing in two years to the game other than "easy to implement" stuff is selling them massively short.

Yebbut...
If one doesn't play EDO, because, y'know, it is just a FPS, and CoD does it so much better...
Well, nothing that happens in EDO will be noticed, coz it ain't worth playin', is it?

We can just enjoy the new things that the expansion brought along with it over time... Not that I'd complain if the new 'core feature' is designed for EDO, after all, it is the true 'core' game nowadays, isn't it?

It's going to be revealed on the 30th of October, according to Arf on the actual Frontier livestream

😏 😄(y)

Regardless of how easy to implement the updates have been, they've made a positive difference to the game - the fun factor is back: I do things now because I enjoy them, not because I have to.

Engineering is actually fun now. I once heard Elite described as "the best game to think about playing", which I think is still true. Part of what's brought the fun back for me is that achieving my goals in the game no longer requires hours of mindless relogging or repeated, thoughtless slaughter to get the mats I need. Now I deeply consider which factions and settlements to slaughter.
