I guess I overreacted. Other bad stuff added up to it with some bugs that are still present. I reported those but doesn't hurt to mention them here as well. Bugs are new email stacking in email box, missions to Colonia and few other systems 20000Ly away, not retrieving mission board message , autopilot gets stuck occasionally on landing pad not being able to land while you are doing something else for example look through emails or transactions overview. I solved the problem with H.O.T.A.S. it was due to a lack of power that USB port outputs. I started a new. Pirate hunting missions are pretty rewarding now or just my impression. Got my self into a fully equipped Viper MkIII. Thank you for the info about groups. I have 12 working hours a day so not much free time remains. I will see about groups. I was picometer close to uninstall the game yet I started a new, maybe Ill join some group. I just needed a view from a different angle and you guys provided one. Thank you for that. Game is hard and ask for paying attention. I never disputed visual content. It is what I still like about it. And I am back in it for an adventure out there into the unknown far and beyond.

Good on you, cmdr! Hope it all goes well for you!

If you think this game is hard, you should play the original where you didn't start with fuel scoops and you had to pay docking costs and and fuel costs every time you jumped, I went bankrupts so many time it was not funny.
Yes this game is sort of an MMO, but without the disadvanteges of other MMOs in my opinion as we are in such a huge sand box that I had played in the open for at least 3 months before I ever saw another player.
If Your HOTAS is a thrustmaster, I would be happy to either provide you with my script that has so far been glitch free or I can help you design a script that will work how you want it.
I do however agree with Alec Turner "it's easily the best space sim ever developed". I don't know if you know the history but this game was made by the person who pretty much invented the genre.
While if you choose to grind for better ships you can, but one of the great things about the game is the sidewinder is a totally playable ship, so no grinding is necessary I now have an Imperial Clipper, I have been playing for just over 12 months in between family work and my social life and I only did very minimal grinding toward the end because I was close. I would suggest that grinding in this game is actually a bad idea, there is too much to explore and do and who cares if you don't have the best ship in the galaxy. If you get in a fight you can't handle, running is always an option as long as you plan ahead and are careful.
I hope you give it another go, and if you want help or support you can find as much as you need here on the forum.

I have started again. You guys made me reconsider. I haven't regret. I started a clean save. Sidewinder is an ok ship but I am don't really like how it looks. I have preferences. I solved the problem. It is Saitek(now Logitech) X56 Rhino H.O.T.A.S. and the problem was a lack of poewr from USB port. Kudos to this fine gentlema https://forums.frontier.co.uk/member.php/165796-Casper-Richey who provided me with the solution. I got furious because couldn't get the loan and get back my ship. I started again yetserday. Today I am in a Viper mkIII slowly back on my feet. I do plan to go far and beyond. I wanted the best ship and equipment and that got me where I ended up, I wanted it fast. But things are about patience in life so I gave it another try. Thank for the support.

That is fantastic news! Really sorry if my original response seemed a bit snippy, I just want everyone to like the game as much as I do. [yesnod]

If you get stuck or frustrated with something or have any questions then please feel free to ask (by creating a thread or posting here or sending me a pm) and I'll do my best to help (as will many many other peole). The game has its flaws but on the whole it's really really stunning and well worth sticking with (in my opinion anyway).

Welcome back.

Well its like this,
installed it loged in, trashed a ship..
found out there is flight control...went up, got burned in the sun..
This game is learn and go.. i love it, graphics are amazing, social fleet capabilities are awsome, if your social and talkative.
All in all pretty amazed!

I love your comments and your attitude. When I read the first bit of your post, I was expecting the post to end with "I have now uninstalled it" LOL I would never admit it but I crashed and burned several times early on. The most embarrasing one, I was maybe 30 metres from a landing pad inside a space station and suddenly it all went bad, I'm not even sure what happened but I obviously mashed the wrong control and I am unexpectedly bouncing round inside that station like a ball in a crazy game of pong. Instead of staying calm, I paniced and started fighting the controls which made it worse. By the time I came to a stop and got upright again, I had lost my sheilds and done significant damage to my ship. I finally landed and laughed so hard I thought I was going to hurt myself.

...........

The perils of having the boost button next to the landing gear button on the HOTAS. Yes that was my first rebuy too - my little sidewinder didn't survive the couple of smacks into the rear of the station via one control tower. That was over two and a half years ago and I still double-check the button placements whenever I muck about with my bindings.

So, you've just downloaded ED and you've stepped into you shiny new Sidewinder and left the station.
Don't be shy let us know what you think. :D

I am not new but asking for first impressions is sort of ridiculous. Everyone knows about the "mile wide and inch deep" complaint. That first inch is very cool but over time one gets tired of trying to swim in a wading pool. o7

So you don't think FD should receive feedback on how to improve the new-player experience?

I think we all have those moments mate. I had one not so long ago myself, and someone talked me to calm down, take a breath, and not to give up ;) I was thankful to him because i persevered and got past what was causing my issues and still am playing.
When i first started playing, i messed up bad lol. So i thought, what the heck, start again, i havent lost and havent gained really, so start from scratch lol. And i did, but this time, i watched heaps of videos on the things i needed to learn about and took it one step at a time. Once i got goin tho, and was in a group, i just took off from there. Its been great. I still have moments tho because i am still learning. But what is learning without mistakes? :)
Im glad to hear to you are sticking with ED, maybe we'll fly together someday CMDR :)
If you are looking for more friends as well, you could always pop your ingame name in this thread, " https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/198576-ED-Looking-for-Friends ", and make some new friends, but if you join a group, you're bound to make heaps anyway :)
I think groups would be the best way to go, because you can fly in wings, and next year will be able to fly in squadrons, so exciting times ahead for ED :)
Majority of us here are here to help each other. There maybe a few trolls amongst us, you get them anywhere ingames and forums, etc, but u just ignore them anyway ;) But i havent come across any....yet lol
With groups, try to find one thats in your time zone. So, if you're from the US, best to try to find one from the US. If you're from Aus/NZ, shoot me a PM and i will gladly help you as i am from Aus myself :)
Good luck and glad to hear you are going to stay with us....flysafe CMDR o7 :)

you are probably in the wrong thread here.
However, I have recently discovered Trade Computer Extension Mk.II which is awesome and intergrates with your HUD; although it does take a little while to learn to use it, mainly because it has soooo many features.
You can find it in this thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/223056-RELEASE-Trade-Computer-Extension-Mk-II
I also use EDDB or Elite Dangerous Database: https://eddb.io/

Hope you find that helpful.

Well I have been grinding hard and furious as the new guy outside of the bubble. Gained some rank and bout some ships etc... Most fun I have found is taking them around the neighborhood getting mods so far. Only thing I can't get into is the ridiculous number of interdiction's I get playing on missions. If I was not so addicted to the OCULUS experience I would say thats the only problem way out here. Not sure of the future but asides from the barrage of these pirates out of nowhere I would have to continue giving the thumbs up as a virtual experience.[big grin]

I like it.

While I get some of the complaints here, I feel there's a category of players who's opinion is not likely represented here often, the experienced but casual player.

Having played games since the original Elite, I now find that my time to spend on them is limited, so I know I'll never actually achieve much in any game simply because I can't invest enough hours in any one of them.

This game has enough of a learning curve to be interesting, but is accessible enough to just pick up and play, with some general gaming experience.

I can just play it for a few hours, instead of watching a movie or something, then leave it for days or weeks and come back again to continue.

That too is good game design :)

To simply say I like this game is an understatement. I am 1 month in and I am enjoying the heck out of this game. I bought Horizons also. So far spending all my time exploring. My rank is Pioneer right now. I am doing my first expedition right now to a small nebula about 2300 LY (one way). From all of the online help (Tools, Threads and others) I was able to print out a hard copy booklet with a ton of useful information. It was fun building this booklet also.

I have played many MMO's throughout the years but this is hands down the most helpful community I have seen so koodo's and cheers to all of you. To see the wonder of the galaxy in my life time in this way is amazing. I can only recommend this game highly. I was playing three other games on a daily basis (MMO's) I quit all of them. This is the only game I need.

Need Trade

We NEED a trading system. Some way to transfer goods from one person to another. Put a coin cap on it so its tied into the nearest economy. Make it so there's a cap and the other person only gets 50% of the money it doesn't matter. We need a way to work together and have fun and trade the spoils of our work.

This is very late first impression but here it goes.

For background: Frontier Elite II was one of the first games I played, and watched my father play in my childhood. At that age my knowledge didn't go past departing and shooting at Sirocco Station authorities, but it left me an impression. At later age I would play it through Dosbox, grind my way to owning an Imperial Courier because it was cooler, trade, do missions and assassinations. Also play Frontier First Encounters and try to survive in that, since its difficulty was whole different ball from Elite 2's leisurely jousting laser matches. Braben's sandboxes were nice to immerse and lose yourself into.

I suppose it was brand loyalty that made me wait and hope for the fabled Elite 4, instead of playing X or Freespace or what other titles in the same genre there were. But when Elite:Dangerous came onto kickstarter I was rushed to back it with beta level, with the Cobra MkIII trader's beginning at Lave.

So, my first impression, downloading, installing and starting the game in August 2014, and finding myself sitting in a Sidewinder on Azeban City, I cried from joy. A long and hyped wait had ended. It was beginning to a journey into the unknown.

Of course, now I've gotten to see much of it and discovered limits. The nostalgia lenses are off and I'm painfully aware and known with the game's limits and letdowns. But I don't regret backing this game.

The community has suprised and amazed me as well.

Totally agree.

Oh I love your name by the way. Were you named for the desert mouse or the contilation?

Moadeeb is the name of the dark side of the moon of Arakis. From the Dune series. The main character is named Moadeeb after he trains with the rebels on Arakis. It is so long ago I don't know if a spelled it right.
