Where have they all gone?

I play solo at present due to stability but it seems that latest update has helped a lot. I jumped into open last night when I was down to 6% hull and had a 2000cr bounty as I wanted to give that to a human player but no one was about and I ended up dying at the hands of the system babylon instead.

IIRC, there was a poll that suggested about a third of people were playing solo.

Yeah, and I expect that number stay that way for the rest of the life of the game. I think it's very ok. That's another 1/3 of players who contribute to PU feedback loop, and can jump in 'all' if they want to.

I'm not convinced. I'm still on the fence, personally. I have a number of reasons for *playing solo at the moment that won't be valid come release - like stability, for starters.

There's another reason for playing* solo at the moment that I've yet to see anyone mention - it's a lot more stable.

This exactly. When I started out in solo I was amazed that my framerate never dropped, I didn't have to wait in SC, hyperjumps, landings.. anything at all. Sadly this shows the drawbacks of the P2P system, how big an impact on your gameplay a suboptimal rig or ISP from other players can have.

Do you think comments like that will entice people to try the multi-player? I somehow think not....

Tbh : I dont care.

But will tell you a story :

I used to be a carebear back in my Eve days. Oh boy, what a carebear i was. I just wanna mine peacully and earn money, i realy didn liked the idea that some player is able to attack me. Then my alliance getting attacked by another player entity and we have to FIGHT for our right to mine and live in peace.

With our n00bish skills and expierence me and my mates tried to fight the enemy, but we had no real chance. On the the top of that, after we getting killed again and again, we got smacked hard for being "bad in pvp". Tbh : This motivated me that much that i realy learned to fight and in the end this gave me a reason to play all this years. (The Alliance i am talk about is [G] and later Ev0ke).

Not because i am a evil baddass that kills n00bs, but that i am capable to defend myself, my friends and the thing we are standing for.

I have no problem with instability in a beta, but the problem is, if they want us testing anything other than basic gameplay, then we need to progress through money, equipment and ships. That all takes a lot of time, and if all that progress can be wiped out because of one disappearing station, then the incentive to carry on testing is kinda small. Without the solo option, I think I'd be waiting until gamma at this point. I just don't have the hours to keep grinding away to make up every setback.

it is just that i have not been playing much. just sit back an wait til after the weekend :p

but yeah good point well made. as always there is little point in getting your knickers in a twist about things that are... well in transition.

this forum needs a disclaimer image

i'll see your "Keep Calm" and counter you with one of mine

Why are there so many ways of playing this game!?!?! Why isnt everyone playing this game exactly as I want to play it!?!? *ragequit*

I'm not entirely sure I agree. I suspect if performance issues were equal, more would move from solo to multi player.

I've been trying solo too, but often for stability reasons. And I do find that an NPC only world feels rather sterile. Despite the 'problems' that real human interaction can bring in-game, it also adds a huge dimension that I suspect will ultimately suck in a larger fraction than 2/3.

If that happens, I will be very happy camper. But as you said, SP have nice side effect of allowing testing game (well, some aspects) while not having all network issues related with MP. Those have to be fixed too, but after reporting them it's not much you can do about them :)

I know what you mean, I file that under other player ISP. The moment I decided to wait until SB was when 3 times in a row I got either no kills in a conflict zone because the enemies were doing the rubberband tango, or as soon as a player showed up and it attacked me, when I shot back they CAD-ed out, and crashed my game. Not to mention sketchy framerate when others were around. Right now I'm happy puttering around checking things. If the netcode improves, I probably will go back to either group of friends, or open play.

Everyone is playing solo. :D

Only complaints I have seen so far is from the people that have no player targets to attack...

Yes all us 'oldsters' were just waiting for (solo and its variations) to pop up. PvPers are taking a hit...

Hey, Fd knew there was a strong preference for it.

I have had one guy try to shoot me while i was flying out of a station.... he didn't last 5 seconds before the station shredded him ;)
