Noob : OMG OMG

Noob : I know ! Evasive manoeuvres... flip around and fly past him !!

OP : o7 !

Noob : WTH is o7 ?????!???!

Noob : Flip .. Boost ... Splat !

This is already a week old, but it keeps me ROFLing.

Isn't it considered a hostile action even by the game itself?
I remember the talks about how interdicting a clean ship should automatically make you wanted so the victim doesn't have to wait for your first shot to start defending themselves.

I never interdicted anyone who wasn't wanted so I am not sure.

u play ur way, ill play mine

I've occasionally noticed comms in my chat that I didn't notice at the time. I always feel bad that I didn't respond to the commander. It needs to be more obvious that a player is chatting to you. Having said that, it has been a while and things may have changed.

Honestly, this reads like a troll.

1. Interdicting is not a friendly action.

2. New players don't know how to communicate - in fact they are still learning how to operate their ship.

3. The only rude person was you.

(P.S. Most browsers have a free spell-checker plug-in, as do most phones.)

of which i care not to use, enjoy

As you have not at any point said you tried to talk to them "before" pulling them over, and confirmed you didn't when you said BL1P wrote "exactly what happened" in their example (which didn't include any prior comms before pulling them over) - it is you who are clearly trolling. Perhaps you should go back and re-read it yourself. Because you claimed and confirmed you pull people over out of the blue.

And even if you had tried to message first and they ignored you, why would you pull them over when you know they are ignoring you?
Oh that's right.... your own entertainment by making newbies panic.

And the fact you get a fine for pulling someone over should also be a clue as to what people expect when you do it.
(Again, any experienced player knows all of this)

also said i was in tears laughing... think*

I've helped and talked to lots of Newbies around the stations in Eravate. Pulling a new player out of supercruise with an interdiction is a hostile act and very rude of itself. What goes around comes around.

You can also hang around the Newcomers Section in the forums where people ask questions specific to them .. rather than having generality ram-raided upon them (you remind me of my Mum! lol).

Newcomer's forum is good for testing your knowledge too! Most of it's an education to me. Maybe people'll trust you more if they know your name from the forum but how can one know if you're even QUALIFIED to give advice in the black!? Show me your ID credentials!! :D

edit: Oh an intediction is illegal, that's why most systems issue a fine for it. So if you're wondering why committing a crime against me suddenly makes you my new best friend, relationship counselling maybe? [up]

Being social in Elite takes time. A lot of time.

With my first account... it took me about 10 months to get to an Anaconda. I flew it, without rebuy, I died, and was back in a Sidewinder with 200k Cr. But during this time, I got social, in a carefull way, and found some very good friends...

At that point (when I had the Anaconda and totally FAILED), I had a bunch of friends, so they helped me into a T6 within an hour, and from there we did things such as Mining etc, and they all dropped Painite for me to sell... I was in a Python in a couple of days... (this was a long time ago, even before Ceos/Sothis was a thing).

FORCING people to be social is never a good thing, unless you are a damn good pirate who RPs.

Just becuase you are being social, doesn't mean others wants to be social, even if they happen to play in Open.

we all have our methods, seeing as ive played since March (5 months) and have 8B in assets, i like my way.

It's illegal arrest/kidnapping.
The fine was not a matter of opinion, lol.
That'll get you shot in some parts.

well... im prepared for that too

I wonder what the OP does when he is interdicted by a Commander. Does he immediately submit, turn to face the other ship expecting no action? Nah, if he did submit, he would either boost away or immediately deploy hardpoints ready for a fight. Yet he expects new players who think everyone is out to destroy them to act differently. What a goose lol

ur half right. i deploy hardpoints, and face them... but i dont fire, until fired upon. i type o7

I remember back when i was a Noob, and could not even fly the damn ship without crashing into anything and everything, let alone work out how to Chat with other players.

Before blaming them just remember what you where like OP as a complete Noob!

the exact reason i do what i do, HOW i do it

And the guy was looking at a re-buy screen thinking unkind thoughts about the mission he's just messed up and hate, hate, hate... yeah, I can see you're a great help, just what he didn't need.

It took me half an hour on the phone with my mate to pick up all the comms/wing stuff... which I don't use, if I get called I just ignore it cos by the time I get my head around being safe enough to answer the guy is over the other side of the Galaxy.

had he replied... i wouldve helped with that rebuy... it was only 6k

A more audible (first) direct message bing bong, would be cool imo. (It doesn't happen that often does it). +1

How to impose help, proper --->

How dare all those noobies not respect, adore and worship you!

Your entire premise for this post is basically low quality bait.

incorrect

Why does every thread turn into a dumpster fire?

quality of community

Because the OP was trash and everyone's an arsonist? ;)

meet up?

"like begets like"

read the tone not only of the OP or the other posts made by the original poster and you have your answer.

Had OP have been after honest polite discourse the question would be "I have noticed seemingly new players are not interested in chat... why is that? All i want to do is help.

but no.... that is not how it went.

incorrect

Sorry to jump in so late into this thread but his happened to me the first three weeks I was playing.

Still in the sidewinder, offered "stuff." Now, I had read these forums and articles regarding griefers and the assumption is that I was being set up for getting blasted.

"Here, little mouse. You look cute. Have one ton of cheese. Go ahead, it's free."
Player moves to take the bait.....followed by the one offering and two or three other players opening fire for the lulz.

I didn't care to take the chance. I'd have to suspect that these noobs are under the same impression.

is the PC version SO toxic???

I just like throwing out some bread for the ducks, I sit at a station and jettison some gold, you eventually get the basic ships turn up and ask if they can take it, it's fun till the swans turn up but it seems to be better than interdiction.

If you want to help noobs why not just sit outside a noob starter station and broadcast your offer in local rather than begin with the offensive action of interdiction?

i do that too... but i mix it up a bit from time to time

Hehe. That's so right.

Who knows, I haven't done a survey but, indeed maybe n00bs are less rude (even than calling them, n00bs as opposed to Rookie Commanders, say) but more adrenalin fuelled. They are young mices .. and you might easily be a cat so bye bye.

edit:

Hardpoint deployment.

in SC? on radar???

I believe Discovery Scanner might register but other firegroup systems work in supercruise.

You get triangles in SC, usually indicates that something like interdictor or discovery scanner is triggered, or that someone is scanning a ship.

RE OP, original point,
Given that reading forums such as this give the impression that any Cmdr in anything bigger than a Cobra is out to get the poor noob how can you blame them?
;-)

And interdiction is not a polite way to make friends. Try following noon into a lie wake and then help him if he's in trouble.
I'd stow turret weapons to prevent accidentally firing on them.

If I am playing the game and trying to learn the ropes the last thing I need or want is some experienced player interdicting me and forcing me to stop doing what I am interested in doing just so they can feel better about themselves and help me.

Want to help new players?

Write some guides.
Make some tutorial and helpful Youtube videos.
Make a "What the game doesn't tell new players" video or article or blog or tweet.
Help answer questions on the forum / Twitter / Reddit / any other social media where you might run into new players.
Join their Twitch / Mixer / Youtube streams and answer questions if they have any.

There are dozens of ways you can help other players rather than trolling them out of supercruise, and when they just want to continue on their way they become branded on the forum as clueless, aimless and anything short of a fool.

If I kept getting interdicted because someone wants to help me when I'm not really asking for or wanting help then I would quickly switch to solo mode and stay there.

But the Op doesn't want to do those things you suggest (damn good suggestions BTW). He wants to be able to create a post so he can call newbies (he even got the name calling wrong) in his little condescending way.
