Modes Why do you want me in Open?

What makes you believe that all those who currently avoid Open are suddenly coming in droves if they have no other choice? Imagine the other way around and Open would be closed, no more PvP at all and everyone would have to play in Solo. How many PvPer do you think would stay?

This - people seem to think that solo players will just play in open without even considering that if the reverse was done, PVP'ers would melt the forums with salty rage dug from the Marianna Trench itself!

To quote myself from earlier in this thread:
That's not quite the same thing. PvP is an activity made possible by open and private group. If people are playing for that activity, removing that activity is fairly likely to remove their interest. As far as I can think of, there's no activity that's exclusively made possible by solo mode (with the exception of high-res screenshots, from what I understand).

This may come as a shock, but some people like the thrill and excitement of a possible challenge. Trading in solo or mobius may be more efficient, but neither offers the potential challenge, risk, and excitement of open.

When ye lose more than ye make, then its an issue. Currently there is absolutely zero incentive to be in open apart from this fabled challenge I keep hearing about...sorry but that just aint enough to put up with the salt and the childish antics.

Besides which, the reliance on engineering just to enable one to run away more effectively...note the words "run away more effectively"...failing to see where this so called challenge is unless its the challenge of unlocking and grinding out all the engineers so you too can be a meta player.

Every other form of argument is failing and failing quite spectacularly so far...maybe better by tonight after the day shift has had their chance to reply, or the mods repair the hotel california leakage. Either way, Im still failing to see any incentive to continue playing in open...the social interaction is a bad joke and the mentality of some just beggars belief...why they think anyone would wanna share the same space as them I'll never know...maybe Im just getting old...kids these days pff ^

From my experience in open, which has now ended btw...the only reason they want more in open is more targets to shoot at. Moving back into solo now ^

To the point where they've literally said that players "without Horizons" can still PP - they mean they can do all the boring delivery missions (but also make nice easy targets that can't fight back). They also then in the same breath point out just how easy it is to escape any player and live making the entire (PVP) thing pointless.

So given that - the max number of people are already playing PVP open and that isn't going to go up. Now that the player base has dwindled from 14k on a Sunday to 6k on a Sunday I suspect it's pretty emtpy out there for easy PVP kills.

Murderhobo killing sprees are far too feasible. This is something that needs dealing with regardless of the outcome of the powerplay proposal.
This is where Sandro's Karma proposal has to play a part, I believe. And, yeah, it's a larger issue than Open only PP.

I think "facilitates" is a little generous ... "Makes moderately less unlikely" seems a more reasonable description! Without dedicated PvP zones - where everyone who is interested in PvP deliberately goes - you're still relying on an awful lot of "dumb luck" in terms of being instanced with someone of an opposing Power and who is currently running a PP mission/task.
Frontier could tweak the instancing code to make instancing with other PP pledged commanders more likely.. whether it picks allies or enemies however, that's the real Q :p

Let's hear it folks - there's a full court press, all guns blazing forum meta-war going on with the very foundations of the game at stake ;)

So combat's not especially my thing - I'll do it when it comes but I don't get my kicks at CZs or Res Sites.
I'll maybe have a brief dedicated combat session once in a while but I'll soon move on again.
Currently at 22% Master.

My builds are definitely not combat optimized, so I'll offer little counter-threat to anyone who interdicts me.
However, I'm also not an OCD min-maxer trying to eke out every Cr/hr, so I rarely fly unshielded (my Mining FDS is the exception).
I've also been around long enough so I know how to get away.
Your chances of actually blowing me up are slim.

What exactly are you missing out on by not having me in your instance?

To answer that, I have to ask, what are you doing ingame? For example do you take part in PP or CGs? Do you UA bomb, or fix stations? Are you part of a player faction?

depending on what currency you're after, verm. fun pounds or credit pesos? :)

Being pulled by a no comms pvpr is neither fun or engaging when theres no apparent reason other than lulz...theirs not mine.

Currency wise, Im after credits...have been after little else these past 5 weeks cos thats what Im lowest on, and the credit nerfs damn near made me quit the game entirely as it just made the grind worse, not better. Playing in open really aint helping...so when its a part of the problem and not the solution?

Well, ye know how this story ends ^

Group stuff doesn't have much appeal - been there and done that in other games.
PP has no appeal full stop - if I wanted to play strategy, I'd get out the board games.
I might do BGS stuff more if there was more of an impact on how it makes systems feel.
Mechanics that shut things down are poorly thought through, so I'm not a fan of UA Bombing, forcing Lockdowns, or that PP impact on Black Markets.

I do take part in the odd CG, usually trade but I'll drop into the accompanying BH CG if the res. site is convenient.
I have done burning and repair station stuff - I got a T9 specifically to help with the early IDA efforts.
I did chase the mysteries with Canonn for quite a long time until I realized it's 99% meta-gaming and there's very little progress to be made actually in game.
My exploration urge was fulfilled a long time ago and very quickly by the threadbare implementation.

At the moment, I'm just doing a fairly random trail around the bubble running 1-way missions and passengers, in a multi-purpose Annie build for materials gathering.
Been in the Old Worlds area for a week or so now.

well, noseing them around and getting away with it can be fun. ofc that's preference and no fun lasts forever.

but yeah that's an usual pattern in games with multiplayer, at least for me: make cash in pve/grind whatever, so i can happily burn it in pvp.

sad to hear you're tight on credits. would wing up to boost a bit but you're on xbox, right? and i assume you don't like small ships. a pity because they're cheap as peanuts, no problem to loose and actually fun. personally i'm not actually even playing atm, just configuring and experimenting with my new controllers. it takes a bit of a hassle to set up (have to move furniture around each time) so i really only get to do it once a week at most.

I would prefer if powerplay had more win / loss feel to it. Set it up in seasons. Make it entirely possible for a power to be destroyed. Have a shorter time frame that people are competing in (like a few months), and dole out prizes to the winning power(s). There's a lot that can be done to make powerplay more interesting, but I believe shifting to open is an important foundational first step.

Sounds like a plan.

PP is more like football as a whole, season after season, game after game, it continues.. indefinitely.

But there are endings as in seasons, where some teams get promoted, and some get demoted... that doesn't happen in PP.

PP by its very mechanics leads to stagnation of powers.
