Why I don't buy ARX

I already have a bunch of cosmetics and I don't want to spend the increased prices for getting just a single thing for a ship that I probably already have paints for.

In related news, I'm applying tattoos on all my CMDRs because they're now super exclusive thanks to literally not being able to buy them.

Third, buying arx is specifically set in a way that you will always end up buying excess arx instead the amount you need.
With the recent price rises this mostly isn't the case any more [1].

Typical store prices for items are now 5000, 8400, 10000, 16800 or 25500 - four of those are the sizes of the smallest four ARX packs, and the other (10,000) is exactly double the size of one. There are a few items priced at other points - accidentally or deliberately is hard to tell with some of them - but almost everything is now either "a pack" or "two packs"

[1] Certainly, done in such a way that you end up needing to spend more now on the exact-sized pack than you would have previously when buying a slightly oversized pack, so this isn't exactly good news.

No ARX for you FD!

If FD dropped a FAS Crossfire paint (and actual paints that I wanted) you'd hear thunderclaps of me slapping my screen with Euro like a boxed PZ monkey.
So today's "news to me" moment was RN paying for thing in Euro, was 100% sure you would be paying for them in Royal Pounds™

Might be a Mighty Boosh reference, where every mention of money was in Euros despite being set in the UK:

Other countries are of course available.

The reason I don't buy ARX is that there is nothing that really appeals to me- I've bought all I wanted, and the customisation options in ED are scant.
This right here is why I don't either. Ship customization would probably go a long ways. I don't like the idea of buying a 'kit' perse. I'd rather mix and match pieces to suit my desire if I do so. FC's could use some love, what there's like 4 ship looks (not paint jobs). Like why not more at this point in the game? Just the layouts are eh for the most part. Customizing FCs might get me to spend money on Arx. Not just buying paint jobs. Maybe for the interior? Interior layouts? I don't know, plenty of options for FDEV to explore if they want people buying arx. Fortnite is a pretty popular yet silly game but it's money maker is on their skins and they have hundreds of skins they rotate through for people to buy plus they create new ones routinely. FDev could adapt some of that mentality into their business model for people to buy arx. Right now, as you said, it's not appealing, would appear for most as well.

I actually think the upcoming new feature will be base building exactly because of this: the opportunity to generate more income from customization of bases. They don't need to put actual game-play there at all, just an editor for already available building blocks and the possibility to claim real-estate on landable bodies. Of course the claim should only be possible via ARX. Perhaps also couple it with rare on-foot mats, so you will increase the incentive to buy-in to Odyssey. Optionally they could offer those mats in bundles via ARX as well for those not interested in Odyssey or mat grinding.
If such a feature is well received, devs would also see a reason to design and implement new building blocks, thus increasing the variety of settlements and maybe stations. That would be cool.

Will you pass on the Type 8 early access? Given the P2 success, I guess they will use the same modus operandi.
Depends how it is spec’d but possibly not as they don’t seem to have the paints I was collecting anymore and I still have bought Arx left from a year ago.

I'm really curious how much of a success it was really. Still only 0.23% of the registered ships on Inara are P II, which is still a good bit less than 0.32% Cobra IV, and how many of those 0.23% were actually bought with money and not just accumulated ARX ?

I think the early access FOMO specifically targeted the accumulated ARX, whereas the pre-build options focus on new players. No clue if the Inara statistics represent a valid measurement in this case.

Why I do not buy Arx:
1) Nothing I really want
2) I do not understand why Americans pay more for the same Arx packs as others... was it what happened in 1776?

I wonder how much of the player base Inara represents?
The only people who know how successful, or otherwise, sales of theP2 might be, is Frontier, and as they don't even tell us how many people are actually playing these days (unlike steam, of course ,which insists almost nobody is, which is hilarious) discussing their sales isn't likely to happen until the next report for investors.
