Given the vast size of space, the multitude of routes you could take, the lack of SDC filth to police this...there is so little chance of this happening. You might as well play with a crash helmet on, you've more chance of being hit by a falling coconut.

Chacun a son gout, n all that jazz.

no chance of coconuts in Manchester, England.

i would like to point out i don't fancy being another victim of the SDC's CG serial ship destroyers thank you very much, plus i heard some groups patrol the boarder of the bubble and kill unsuspecting explorers on there way in, so yeah i won't be taking any chances

That makes you suspecting, subsequently unsuspecting isn't an issue. Same rule applies in real life. SJW's come to my mind, they get blowing away by someone useing logic instead of their hearts.

Worst ship in the game...

Why?

Is it because it can't fight very well? Okay, but it does have the best trade potential for small ships, the most configuration options are available.

Works great as a mining ship, and more than enough internal slots for exploring.

Combat is about the only thing it can't do.

I remember when it was first available on the PC, there was a huge kerfuffle, as folks were expecting an improved MkIII, rather than a new ship based on the same frame, but bigger, with different handling characteristics.

I played it for a while, found it a good all-round, non-combat vessel.

This ^^^

Worst ship in the game...

It's one of the best planetary explorers.

Loads of internals to fit everything (1 more than the AspX); great thrusters for high G worlds (where say a conda would struggle); physical size means you can land in areas med/large ships cant.
Slow planetary exploring doesn't require jump range, so IMO it can't be the worst ship if it's best at something.

Oh and it's cheap. So suiciding doesn't hurt the bank much, if you're doing a one-way trip.

I find the Cobra Mk IV makes a nice mission runner too. I was using mine last night to run missions for Hutton Orbital Truckers in Epsilon Eridani and was able to take missions my Mk III couldn't due to a lack of cargo space (yes I do have both, I have Far Too Many Ships<g>)

Well this has brassed me off. I want to go exploring & I want the best ship to do it in. Plus nostalgia dictates I must have Cobra Mk IV, because I started my Elite career with the Beeb version back in 1984. I actually became Elite back then without dying; possibly my greatest gaming achievement. ;)

It's hardly fair that, as a PS4 player (late to the party?), I never had a chance of buying this, even though I pre-ordered the game.

Life isn't fair I suppose, but it still sucks.

Cobra Mk III is the original Elite ship, which is in the game. Cobra Mk IV is a new variant.

As for exploring Diamondback X and Asp X are better choices.

Indeed it was! I must confess I had an uneasy feeling about my desire for the Cobra Mk IV, but I remembered we started in a later variant of the ship in the original. It seems I was confusing the Cobra Mk I/Mk III of the first game, with the Cobra Mk III/Mk IV of the current game.

Put it down to my age. ;) I still have the original box, too, so if I could remember where it is, I'd have checked. At least I don't feel so bad about the Mk IV now, but can you remind me of when that was introduced to the world? Probably in the first game where we could buy a different ship.

Haven't see either of those. Can we PS4 players actually buy one &, if so, where are they?

Diamondback Explorer and Asp Explorer (cobra was a mistype) are both widely available. Diamondback has the better range, Asp has the better internals.

That's very subjective. I think many people here would vehemently disagree the Cobra Mk IV is the best exploration ship.

On reflection, I think they are right. Using a ship comparison tool online, I've been hardpressed to find anything that I can afford which is better than my current Cobra Mk III setup.

Costwise yes, but you can spend one night in a RES in your Cobra and easily afford a DBX (and you can interchange a lot of modules between the DBX and the Cobra). The DBX will nearly double your jump range.
