It only happens on planetary surfaces supposedly....and even then, only when making certain maneuvers. I've always maintained that it's not a bug and that's due to positioning thrusters working too hard, but what do I know.

It actually happens on all craft, not just the Dolphin, the planetary landing suite is designed to allow you to take a flat trajectory through the atmosphere towards your location, the thrusters on the bottom of your ship are the only ones designed to keep your space ship in the sky when fighting against gravity. If you roll the craft over or stick it on it's side more power has to be directed towards those thrusters generating more heat without adequate cooling = ship overheats.
This could be demonstrated with the use of a Cobra Mk IV (see what I did there
), if it was on the PS4 (or indeed attached to my account on PC or Xbox) but it isn't.

It's always seemed to me that we only got it because FD realised there was a bit of extra dosh to be had. I've raised an issue with dlc trophies not popping back in February, but not a peep since. And don't forget Horizons, and the Cobra MK4, came out for PC players almost 6 months before it came on Xbox. It wasn't like they got it at the same time.

I've noticed in TheYamiks video on "Ship Tier", in the section for the Cobra MK4, he states at 4:14 (I hope this is accurately transcribed, apologies if not exact: speed of speech and dodgy Latvian accent etc ):

Now when youtubers claim being told stuff by devs, one is not quite sure how legitimate their claims are, anything for clicks and all that. Saying that TheYamick is quite well known, and has been invited to Frontier towers, so is far more likely to have talked to devs directly (and gotten an answer) than random xXx420noscopeGoidGrieferxXx type tubers.
So fine, maybe this was said by an actual dev, totally possible. Question Is, was it one high up enough to be able to verify that, or a junior without the authority to make statements on behalf of the company?
Does this relate to PC and Xbox players only, or does it include PS4 players who have never been offered the chance of ownership, ever?
If Frontier have made a decision internally, why not tell us (the players and customers) directly? Just let us know one way or the other
Can we get a yearly post from a community manager-type to say something, even if it's another "looking into that soon", as we've had nothing from the new crowd since the era of Ed, Sandro etc. Just asking for PS4-specific communication and to manage our expectations, not be left dangling.

Yamiks may have spoken to the devs about this, but so have I and several others - I was told by two different FDEV staff at Lavecon that the PS4 issue is a lot more complicated than we think, and that they ARE looking at how this situation can be sorted, which may or may not result in PS4 getting THIS ship....
It could technically be offered for ARX although i’m sure there would still be a backlash because of the “exclusive ship” problem.
I doubt it’ll ever be offered for ARX. It will be too close to (incorrectly) being called out as pay-to-win.
An ARX provided ship will probably need changes to validation rules to check whether the requisite ARX has been paid which would make it too complicated to be easily implemented.
I would think a simpler way to introduce it would be as rank lock as that would align with an established paths for things like the Corvette.
Whether it is technically never going to happen or politicllay too sensitive to be green lighted, I am guessing the latter. If DBOBE wanted to make it happen, I am sure that it would.
I would like to think that PS4 Commanders would at some point in the future get access to the 38th ship.

With all due respect: I've been personally told, in the flesh at the Expo, that they had "plans about it". This was October 2017. Two years ago.
Now, I really really don't give a damn about the Cobra IV. But this is an excellent example of how the PS4 port has been dealt with by Frontier over the years. Expect nothing.

If you have the EX Picachu polemon card I'll have if you have a spare. Or at least if you can tell me how you managed to get one so that I can get one as well.
My line of argument is about equivalence.
PC players who bought (pre-ordered) the Horizons update were given the Cobra MkIV
XBox players who bought (pre-ordered) the Horizons update (six months after PC not at the same time) were given the Cobra MkIV
PS4 players who bought (pre-ordered) the Horizons update (eight months after the XBox) were NOT given the Cobra MkIV
but the ship is "meh" at best...I have come to terms with being a PSP (playstation plebian), time to suck it up or swap to XB or PC if you are that bothered imo.
Me, i will just use a better ship and laugh at everyone getting upset about it, blazing my own plebian trail innit.
I can ask my 7 year old about the EX card, he is maybe mature enough to not really care about such trivialities by now
