Will there be additional bug fix patches between update 5 and console release?

One thing that remains unclear for me after the Development Update and today's Update 5 is whether we'll see more patches in the coming weeks or whether this is it until console release.

I'm trying to interpret the Development Update and Update 5 notes correctly but instead of guessing I'd rather just ask.

There's lots of bug fixing still to do. Will we see this happening in the coming weeks/months or are we facing a dry spell while we wait for console release?

For reference some things that confused me:
  • Arthur mentioned during Tuesday's stream: "Update 5 is the last update for Odyssey".
  • The Development Update, amongst sharing the top 5 issues mentions: "As mentioned in our previous post, our aim was to focus on the initial set of updates and then turn our attention back onto console. There’s no doubt that the additional development work on these updates and community requests pose a challenge on our previous plans and timelines. We are actively investigating, reviewing, and remeasuring the further roadmap but these things will take a little time.".
A lot of people I'm talking to are saying: "So this is it now until console release? No further fixes until then?" but personally I can't imagine this is the case.

I think we maybe should interpret the messages as though they do plan to continue bringing out updates between now and console release. I'd rather not guess though.

Some open issues:
I would love to know what the community at large thinks. This might simply be a misinterpreration from yours truly though it would be awesome if we could get a CM to confirm what we can expect in the coming weeks and months.

Well, so much for this then.

I tried, I was patient, guess it was not meant to be.

I was thinking the exact same thing, especially since Update 5 still left two really nasty bugs in, and a handful of smaller annoying bugs, that I‘m aware of.

At least one more update of similar size is needed to tidy up the mess, it’s still in a bad way. I’ll not be happy if I have to wait till October, or further, for this game to be fully playable and stabilised.

The Carrier Shipyard and Carrier Live stock update, the shipyard is a bad one though.
Ah those, yeah. Didn't carry a shipyard on mine but got rid of the Outfitting completely until it's fixed.

Yep - I suspended Outfitting on my Carrier due to not having a clue what’s sold or not. The carriers did not get much attention when Odyssey broke them, and only a few small fixes have been done to them with all these updates.

Putting any fixes and improvements they work on for the console release on the live servers would allow them to have them tested before they send their console release build out for certification. You don't want to get denied certification as it can take months until you get the next time slot for another attempt. And every time you fail, you lose a bit more credibility with the big ones.

That it may make players more happy is really just a happy accident of the process.

Did the community receive any clarity on this? I don't think I heard anything during the livestream. I'm wondering whether we'll be going into the weekend without any further updates on what we can expect in the coming weeks and months.

A very simple bit of information on whether we'll be seeing more patches between now and console release is all I'm curious about.

It feels a little.... underwhelming to go bug hunting/reporting when in the back of my head I'm wondering whether there is any point considering that the majority of the team might simply be working on getting consoles ready.

Nope, still silence from Frontier's side about this as far as I'm aware.

Surely after five updates of "many improvements and fixes" there can't be that many bugs left, can there?

I've now asked this question myself multiple times as others have and it has been sidestepped very professionally. Don't expect anything more than a few hotfixes and perhaps if we're lucky 1 or 2 performance related updates until console release.
It's an interesting gaming paradox as the parts of the livestreams I've seen just involves one or two CMs taking minutes each to explain how they may or may not be more open with the community depending on the information that they may or may not receive. Just don't take their word for it and if you do, take it with a pinch of salt and also consider it might be subject to change. It's the usual competition of using as many words as you can to say as little as possible.

Edit:

Problem is, the CMs can only talk about what they know and are allowed to share. So they are in reality sitting between the chairs and have to take most of the steam.

I bet they would love to share more details, you can see that with Arf in almost every stream he is in.

Yep, they have the worst job in the world and they made a conscious decision to take it on anyway. They will live on in legend.

It's hard to picture a successful console launch if there are no additional fixes - particularly to performance - before then. All the word of mouth promotion for Consolessey would look like the Steam reviews today.

In that sense Odyssey is actually an apt name for the product - it's a long journey of hardship and cameraderie in the face of adversity. Will we weather the storm and see our loved one again?
