Will you ditch the Python for the Chieftain

Considering the Chieftain has 2l, 1m, 3s hardpoints compared to 3l, 2m combined with a C7 PD on the Python, I think it will be less fightey and less cargoey ;)

Yeah I'm not seeing this as some python successor. People are imaging this will somehow bet a better FGS/ Python, and yet both of those have class 7 PD's. People want and endlessly have asked for a two seat Keeback (presumably with the same compromises). I think they're about to get one.

Chieftain increasingly to me sounds like a multicrew keelback. This may not be entirely what's expected. Then again, maybe it is.

At the end of the day, if a ship has a role (particularly if it's role specific) then it should actually achieve that to some measurable degree. The endless changes Frontier has had to make to get ships designed to do a role, actually doing that role to at least some competency? It's been a lot. Just a whole lot.

Frontier get a lot right, but their approach to compromises are so inconsistent, it actually fundamentally causes issues down the line. Creating endless rework. People ask for endless more ships, because the existing ones are struggling in many ways to meet their stated goals.

And people are so fundamentally aware of this, at this point, that the only option they have left, is to ask for another one. We have 32 ships. We'll have 33 soon. How many more will it take before it's understood that more working as intended, should be the goal, over ship count alone.

And then there's the Beluga...

I see Chieftain more like a higher class Asp. Not a competitor to Python or FDL. Let's hope that the only drawback of the Chieftain will be the Power Plant, because that's easy to counteract... :D.

Krait should be (IMHO) a competitor to FDL.

As long as it has decent jump range, I expect it to replace my science python. That speed should make planet work a lot less tedious

Tell you what the only reason I see myself buying one as of now is so I can shout ...

Sort of reminds me of this.

Only way the Python will ever get "ditched" is if it gets nerfed, or other ships get buffed. Introducing a ship that's "better" than the Python will just further disjoint other ships already displaced by the Python being OP.

Nothing will replace my python. Will i buy the chieftain most likely.
Apparently it one of the most manuverable for its size. 3 large 1 medium 3 small hardpoints.

Why replace when you can add another ship to the collection?

Overall judgement will be made when I will finally get one. Right now Python is a perfect balance for me. Size, range, capabilities and visuals. For Chieftain, as of now, there is just visuals and size (probably medium). In the end I'll have this one as well, mostly dry dock stored and waiting for occasional use.

Ship collecting FTW.

Give up any of my sneks? never. The python is my go-to medium pad multirole and probably always will be. So far nothing that fits on a medium pad has come close to doing everything I use it for as well as it does.

Well, I certainly won't ditch the Python for the Chieftain. Unlike seemingly everyone else in this thread, I don't own a Python, and can't see this ship anywhere in my future (I had one in a previous incarnation).

That said, from what is known so far in the various speculation threads, the Chieftain looks more like a non-rank-locked competitor to the FAS/Clipper. A little more firepower than these two, a little smaller (so it fits on a medium pad) than the Clipper, a better cockpit view than either of them, larger than the AspX (whether that means size or mass remains to be seen, but since FAS/Clipper come in at 400 tons compared to the AspX's 280, there's a lot of room).

My personal guess? I'd say class 6 tech (PP, Thrusters, PD), class 5 FSD, optionals similar to the FAS, although I hope for a class 6 slot for shields - or alternatively a high base shield value. Two class 6 optionals would probably be too much to hope for. I don't believe in a class 6 FSD, that would set it up as a pocket 'conda, not as the fighter is has been announced so far.

Yes, I'm waiting for tonight's livestream :D
