Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

The things I consider for if a species is essential:
1. Is it common in zoos overall?
2. Is it often a popular sight for the major zoos?
3. Does it add to a region in a meaningful way?
4. Is the species iconic and well known?
5. Is the species unique compared to others in the game?

And even then, this is all subjective. I am always going to have a bias towards how common animals are in my regional zoos. I think there is nothing wrong with people having a personal bias, people will relate more to animals that they know of locally. But it is silly to try and claim anything is objective.

You seem to read my point as an attack against personal wishes and that's not it. See what I quoted from Milurian down below and you get it.
Also: I'm sorry, but since when we got birds in ZT1? Or do you mean those random buildings that were in no way modular and had some flying pixels around? Then yes, they were technically there but made in a way that I can't take that as a serious argument of ZT1 being superior to Planet Zoo regarding birds, honestly.
I didn't read it as a personal attack, I just don't understand the logic (thats what the example was for), specially because trying to get some kind of "global" standard... I don't think that's really possible? Mostly because zoos around the world have vastly different animal collections depending on the location, like if there was some kind of global standard sure, but there isn't really one, whereas it is possible to do that on a regional scale. Maybe I'm taking your comment too literally. The only thing I can imagine following that logic is like the animals you would see in a childrens book about a zoo lol

Also yes I meant those buildings, and no I am not trying to point out "x is superior to y" because obviously PZ is better, the point is that even old games considered birds and added them in the way they could manage to do. And Planet Zoo should do the same, give us birds Frontier! We know you listen, so you know what you have to do and don't make us wait more please.

Exactly , let's all prepare for the arrival of the best - the mountain goat 🐏

mountain forests
This alone makes me think "no". If the theme does turn out to be related to mountains and alpine environments we should expect to see postcard animals. Snow-capped peaks, mountain meadows, blue skies. Tree kangaroos and chameleons need not apply.
3. Does it add to a region in a meaningful way?
5. Is the species unique compared to others in the game?
I realise that you specifically said it was subjective (and it is, to a degree) but these two areas are just so pointlessly restrictive. The game's roster should reflect real zoo collections most of the time, and real zoos don't go out of their way to ensure a specific part of the world is well represented.

As for 'unique', I can't honestly agree that any species in the game is especially unique. The method of building a habitat is identical for every animal; the differences are pretty much purely cosmetic and environmental. There's really no functional difference in terms of gameplay between a gibbon and a gazelle and a seal. There's no additional challenge to keeping any of them in your zoo.

It would still be the same for a supposed "game changer" like a manatee or a macaw (the latter of which would doubtlessly be an exhibit animal anyway, so it's kind of moot). Aesthetically the build might differ slightly, but not in any truly significant way.

Should we have yet another 100 posts of people sharing the exact same "Highland Animal Pack" wishlist instead?
I bet we can make it to another 200!!!! 400 pages about which mountain caprine is the best!

(I do enjoy talking about the goats too)

But I could really use someone coming up with a completely left field animal pack. So I’ll give it a shot:

Forest Pack

  1. Wolverine
  2. Black Howler Monkey
  3. Guar
  4. Peere David’s Deer/ muntjac
  5. Golden Pheasant/ sunbittern
  6. Western Capercaillie
  7. Radiated Tortoise
  8. King Cobra or Jackson Chameleon in Exhbit

I mean it’s the winter spec thread so why not.

tbh though I find it really boring to talk about essential animals cause it gets us nowhere. Everyone will have different opinions on what’s essential and what’s not, and everyone's not gonna come in agreement by the end of the conversation. Everyone has their own bias. At least if we’re talking about highlands we’re on topic and we actually get somewhere.

So we’ve settled the cattle debate and the takin clearly won that (don’t worry I witnessed it we’re good)
There are 3 asian/European goats. We just have one question left. Which. One.

tahr>chamois>markhor
Just because both the chamois and tahr are more distinct in comparisson to the ibex and dall sheep.
But i fully expect the markhor and wouldnt be mad about it either, unless it gets picked instead of the takin

I’ve never seen a Chamois or a Tahr. I have seen a Markhor and a Takin though. These are the ones that should be in a mountain pack.
