Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

I don’t get why people think that Africa being over represented is a bad thing. Like yeah, it has the most species of the game, but it also has the most unique animals in the game (aside from a couple ungulates) and it still has unique animals left to add.

I would take another pack of Africa content honestly if it means we get a baboon, Secretary bird, honey Badger, shoebill, crowned crane, hornbill, Masai giraffe, Gerenuk, waterbuck, etc.

because of the Africa overrepresentation in the game
Yes Africa is totally fine, there's no other reason why I have to rely on mods to make an entire african highland and kopje area because we have soooo many animals from there. Africa is represented to the realistic degree that is found in real zoos, it is not in any way overrepresented because of how diverse the continent is. If anything we should be pointing fingers to north america for overrepresentation.

But to bring this full circle to tundra, comparing a tundra pack and an alpine pack are night and day for me. There are so many good animals for an alpine pack frontier literally couldn’t mess up if they tried to. Like just to show it, these are my top 7:
  • Wolverine
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Markhor
  • Takin
  • Pallas Cat
  • Rock Hyrax
  • Gelada
But aside from these, I would also trade out for any of these as well:
  • Vicuña
  • Rocky Mountain Elk (warmed up to this one Ngl)
  • Alaska Marmot
  • Barbary Sheep
  • Chamois
  • Himalayan Tahr
  • Tree Kangaroo
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Arctic Hare
  • Rock Wallaby
  • Golden Pheasant
  • Guanaco
  • Himalayan Monal
  • Greater Rhea
  • Yellow Footed Marten
  • Japanese Serow
Compare this entire list and the first 7 to a tundra pack where it has barely enough animals to fill the roster of an animal pack.

It's not a bad thing per se, it's a bad thing because the game still is incredibly lacking for South America.

You can call it "accurately representing" if you want, the truth remains that them focusing on a region that is already accurately represented while another just as diverse region is still poorly represented is a terrible idea, it's all about priorities. I wouldn't mind an Africa pack at all if we already had a good roster for South America, but we don't, hence it's a problem and a bad thing. And I shouldn't be explaining something this obvious but o well.

And for the record yes, further representing a region that is well represented in the game already while neglecting others that aren't is overrepresenting.

I mean I’m not saying other continents aren’t not represented (SA like you said) but we know frontier loves Africa so I’m just taking advantage of their preferences. I will always say SA deserves more animals first, but given how little we’ve gotten for SA recently and how much we’ve gotten African, wanting more African animals is both realistic for frontier and is accurate to irl since Africa is the biggest section in most zoos.

Another point of view with all the pack being warmer themed (or warmish for Oceania) is that this year all all warm packs and next year be cooler packs. With another temperate pack

If that happens the winter pack almost has to be South American/Central American focused. It would be both inane and insane if it were anything else.

I'm still not sure if there is enough cold climate content for an entire year. I can see temperate forests, mountains and tundra at very best.

I don’t think there’s enough cold content for a full year of cold. If we get alpine or dare I say it tundra next, I think they’ll go to tropical again next year.

However I don’t think the idea of a Latin America Animal Pack is completely unrealistic for this winter. We’ve gotten warm packs in winter before, it’s not impossible.

I also dont really subscribe to the africa is overrepresented thing. Does PZ have a big focus on african animals? Yeah, but so do real zoos. Africa is easily the most biodiverse continent when it comes to habitat suiteable animals, and so many iconic and well known animals originate from here.

No that oceania is in decent place finall, and after we bring SA up aswell id be more than happy to return to africa.
Baboon, guereza, honey badger, dik dik, grey crowned, secretary, guineafowl are all animals that are really high on my wishlist, and im not satisfied with african animals any time soon
