Winter DLC Speculation

To me it seemed very spring themed with all the flowers and vegetation. I associate summer with the greenery of spring wilting in the heat, so the arid theme of africa and australia was on point to me.

Actually, in retrospect, they could've switched wetlands and conservation.
Perhaps it depends from where you are coming. But I associate sunflowers, poppy fields and tomatoes clearly with summer and not with spring (and I am from Germany)

Conservation despite its name was in my opinion clearly summer themed with its scenery and all the flowers we got and also the DLC main picture screams Summer to me (more than the Australia and the Africa pack). With Wetlands I think you are probably right that there is no real connection to the season
Had they put the amur leopard on the cover and the P-Horses in the background on a snowy field people would argue it was a winter-themed DLC.
That pack had animals from various climate zones. Scenery in form of flowers (spring-like), and pumpkins (autumn-like). Axolotls are even quite light-sensitive, so not that summer-like either.
People argue the aquatic pack was winter themed, because of a penguin on the cover even though the bigger half of that pack was tropical. And penguins come from the opposite pole of Santa Claus.

My point is, as long as the packs are rather diverse you can make them fit any agenda.

Twilight, Arctic, and Europe are more actively trying to fit a holiday/season theme, and they are also less diverse.

The Europe pack could have been easily marketed as a summer pack since we got many Mediterranean plants and animals.

I mean, I'm happy to get them, I'm happy for those that want them, but I can personally live without them in the game, is all
A few pages back, but I agree.
I really wanted the birds and hope to get them, but I don't feel that "desire" so much anymore.
However, three years without them have done their job. I'll probably think differently in December, or during the new dlc, I don't know.

Has anything been happening on SteamDB? Any news regarding the 12th DLC? I'm collecting information from the whole month 🙈

Sadly not much activity on the steamdb yet, I would expect probably another week or so at least until we see anything if the mid December release is still the plan

Looking at the options for large marine mammals there is a couple which could work (emphasis on could).
  • Dolphins , orca and beluga whales are fairly common and would likely the the aim of such a marine pack
  • Porpoise are rare but no objection to adding them
  • Big whales like humpback, blue and fin should never be added. Anyone with animal knowledge will know we can't have a tank half the size of the map to properly care for these giants - and that's on the very small side.
  • Narwhal , great white shark and other others performed very poorly in captivity and should not be added. Do we really want an animal who will never breed and suffer greatly reduced lifespans - whaleshark is another fine example
And where the manatee? For me, this is the first choice when it comes to a pack of all-water animals (for "large"? marine mammals). 🥰

(Captain Callum I do not write this to you personally, do not feel offended).
For me, the whole "argument" regarding this makes no sense. Whether they will or not is not up to us (maybe to a small extent). This is one of the topics that people are arguing about. The other is the consideration of extinct species. Of which the second (more loses) because there is no argument about conservation in rl.
We can express our opinions, but you don't have to argue because it doesn't do anything useful.
For me, it doesn't matter whether they will or not. If they are, I will play with them, if not, I won't. 🙃

I'm not in favor of whales, but let's not make the game a real world game where every animal will feel different emotions, because it's just a game I'm already satisfied with, and every next addition is already "filling the lineup" for me.
I was confused by Twilight Pack, but now I'm really happy that it contains such and not other animals and I can't imagine playing without it. This was the case with every species that seemed "suspicious" (Nile Lechwe, Caimans... etc.) but I'm glad to have them.
If they're whales, I'll be confused, but then... I'll be glad, that they're part of the game (my brain will have to digest it :ROFLMAO:🤪).

I suppose you did notice the anniversary gift?
Of course it is :D I was so happy. After all, I am also celebrating my birthday in November (a few days after anniversary) also this was the perfect gift. ❤️ 🦌 🥰

Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time for the forum, game now... unfortunately... but I try to look here as often as possible

Oh that xD, I was trying to calm down a fierce debate on cetaceans by posting that to have a both ways mindset rather than solely agreeing on whether we should desire such an inclusion. I don't agree with adding cetaceans personally with my experiences of seeing orcas and beluga whales at SeaWorld. But yeah it isn't up to us and I'm sad that any debate about whales turns into warfare

I didn't see a lpt of doom talk since the europe pack honestly.
There was a bit of it before the Twilight pack, at least until the posts regarding 2023 plans and DLC for next year. I fully take ownership that I was one of those people that was saying it was possible PZ content may end this year.

But I absolutely don't think that's the case any longer. Along with the information about content for at least part of next year, I also look to the physical merchandising store. Releasing something like that doesn't seem like something that would happen for a game that's about to wrap up. If anything it seems more like PZ's success has been beyond Frontier's expectations, and we might see a much longer life for the game than anyone initially expected. I suspect at all through all of next year, and probably into 2024. Before the merchandising store, I wouldn't have been thinking we'd get content into 2024 but I think it's very possible now.

This is a weaker reason to believe the end is quite some ways away, but the line up of the Twilight pack was not as strong as it could have been, subjectively speaking but also taking overall reception into account. I feel like if they were going to only have another 1-2 packs, they'd try to include as many popular animals as possible, so long as it didn't involve an overly complicated rig, animations and behavior.

Finally, we just got a brand new type of exhibit and it again doesn't feel like something to me that they're going to use once or twice. Again, just a feeling but I suspect they'll be using that for quite some time.

Absolutely no more doomspeaking from me at this point. Looking forward to another full year of content next year. Maybe at this point next year, depending on what the next 12 months have brought, it may seem like the last 2023 pack would be the final pack, but right now definitely not thinking that's likely.

That feel when even discussions about what kinds of animals the game lacks most don't include crustaceans

(im gonna be honest i havent read this thread in a while idk what youre all actively talking about. I just want crabs, lobsters, mantis shrimp, damn it! We literally have no crustaceans!)

Exactly the kind of exhibit dlc pack we would need. We always see these island pack ideas without any kind of iconic tropical species I mean Tasmanian devil is the last kind of animal i think of an island dwelling animal with my basic mindset for some tropical beach animals
