X55 Rhino Button Layout with Reference Card

Hi MisterPhoton - I have updated my post and added a printable version with a white background.

Any issues let me know :)

Awesome, thanks for that!

One issue I've run into with the setup, though - for some reason the macros don't work - for instance, the auto-docking request and power schemes don't seem to work at all. Is something mucked up with my settings either in the X55 software or in ED?

I would check a couple things:

1) Make sure the profile is loaded (seen by the green tray icon for the Saitek software). Also use the test pad in the software to see if any of the keys register inside Saitek software.
2) Just to check, when you open the Saitek software, open the profile, click on the little 'target' icon (should upload the profile to the controllers). I usually hit Save again after that. I've found sometimes it doesnt update properly. Once you have it updated generally good to go.
3) Double check one of the key mappings. These should be correct but check the key is mapped in ED as well as Saitek software. Friend who used the setup said he ran into the same issue, but had to remap the same key again and save it all again for it to register. Not sure why but hope it helps.
4) Check device manager and see if there are any issues with your devices. Could be the device drivers didn't install properly.

Cheers.

You have mapped the slider to scr lock in the Saitek software, you mean? If I understand you correctly, the slider works as a push button that's pressed momentarily when you move it? If so, then it might work as I want it to.

Nice X55 setup you got, though :) "Auto request docking" and "jettison all cargo" are very close together... I'd consider changing that, one day it might be disaster.

Thanks mate, and yeah its just a straight button mapping in the Saitek software, hence most things will work. Just comes down to how it will function for you. For thrusters you might need to set it up as an Advanced Command, with a repeat of the same key to keep the button pressed and keep acceleration occurring, but if you do that then I think it will always be on if the slider is in the direction. Test it out though, I am curious if it would work. For now I am just using the analog nipple on the throttle to do the same, but its not the best.

Yeah I chose very carefully for the docking and cargo toggles. For me they are the safest keys, out of the way where I would never touch. If I had them on the bottom toggles I would be worried tho, top ones I cant really hit by mistake :)

Awesome

If anyone has had the chance to test out the profile, would love to hear its all working. This is the first profile I have shared so would be good to know its working for others :)

A little late but I had to come and say thank you! This is great work, thanks so much for making this and sharing it :D:D:D

Hello fellow commanders! I've just recently got my hands on the X-55 and I've setup the HOTAS to my liking. Thanks to all who posted before me, as it gave me plenty of mapping ideas to play around. No rudder or Head tracking for me, but I'm looking forward to get those very soon!. Edit: The Primary Weapon Firing Button looks weird because I'm using it as a combo button for SCB and Chaff launcher. Trigger + Button C = Shield Cell, Trigger + Button D = Chaff.

Fellow Commanders and X55-wielding gentlemen, is there a ref. card with the DEFAULT mapping as yours truly may be a thicko searching for it for the last couple of days and not finding it anywhere?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if I have seen a default one posted on this thread.

What you could do though is load the default profile settings you have in your ED, into the following website and create your own:

I am struggling somewhat to find a good system of throttle control when in FA off. In a straight line, when using keys W will accelerate your ship and S will slow you down and you can stop, its pretty intuitive. With using the throttle with FA off I seem to be in a constant flux of spamming the " set reverse" toggle button and can never seem to actually stop as easy as using the keys. My throttle is set from 0 - 100 and not -100 - 0 - 100 and I'm not sure if that's the problem.

Obviously this is only a FA off issue.

I struggle with FA Off period, certainly no expert other than using it for the occasional turn in combat. I find it very sensitive to keep yourself in one direction, find my self spinning a lot. I think a lot of it is my skill level off course, but also things like the throttle in FA Off or proper controls of the thrust axis on a HOTAS is limited. I think that adds to the difficulty of it.

I wish I could set where the Zero is rather than having it set 50/50 in full range mode. I would love a 20/80 split. Would let me change from using the reverse button which is problematic like you describe. Also, I would love to have a toggle where I could use the Joystick Axis in FA Off to control my thrusters as needed. In my profile setup I wanted to use the mode switch key plus the axis on the joystick to map to the analog thrusters but ED will not recognise a combination of a digital and analog axis together (and I dont think it can be done in the Saitek software either). Only other option is some rudder pedals I guess.

Thanks to Sandcracka for posting his reference card. I'd like to use the same card but with my specific key assignments shown. Anyone know how to edit the image?

Hi Mile High, would you have the bindings file for that nice setup, would greatly appreciate it, hate to have to manually enter the info.

I couldn't find a template of Sandcracka's version in the thread when I was setting mine up. Guess you could always just manually edit it in photoshop or something? I'd offer my template, but to be honest the psd file is a mess and probably take too long to sort out lol

I can't be the only guy who finds the H3 top hat under the thruster completely useless, my thumb does not fit into the space for the hat, making it painful to use.
So I have the pinky rocker on thruster set for lateral thrusters, and using the lower hat H4 for forward/reverse left right thrusters.
Thumbs up for the pinky spinner target subsytems though! I had not thought of that.

Personally, my thumb fits there just fine, and I have it for the U/D/L/R thrust as you can see in my binds above. The only problem I have with the H3 is that the buttons are not precise as it moves with the slightest touch. I sometimes use it in combat, but mostly it's just for landing.

Yeah not the best position, not painful to use though. I put low frequency buttons on those. Oh and the sub-systems on the spinner wheel works really well I think. Maybe just a little sensitive at times but you get used to it.

Update to my X-55 Ultimate Profile has just gone live. Now profile v1.2.

Includes, new Sensor Panel axis that was added in v1.1, remapping of the HUD key back to CTRL+ALT+G & some other refinements to the mode switching & also the rotary switch for the FPS+Bandwidth should now work much better.

Please remember to update if you are using it! :)

Hi thanks for sharing this. I just got my X55 and am having trouble loading your profile. I go to programming and open your file as per the instructions. Nothing seems to bind. Do you have any suggestions on what to look for?

Hi Elprez,

When you say nothing seems to bind, do you mean nothing is working in ED? Or do some things work and others do not?

More often than not I find its because the Rhino profile isnt loading up properly. Might be wrong but try these steps too and see if it helps:

Remember after you have installed the profiles, but before Starting ED:

1) Check your Saitek profile is loaded. Open from the UI screen, click the 'target' icon to apply to controller & Save. Your tray icon should also appear green to identify the profile is loaded.
2) Test keys using the test function in Saitek software. Note: Only keys with keyboard mappings will register here (ie Slider, Power Schemes or Auto-Docking).
3) TrackIR, load and optionally set the profile to persistent (Save loading it each time). HOME key will center, INSERT key will pause. Center your view looking slightly upwards 10-20 degrees. Test in the TrackIR UI display that it is picking up and tracking.
4) Change to your headphones (optional).
5) Launch & Enjoy! (Remember to select the Aussiedroid X55 profile from the list in Controls)

I added that to my profile detailed description not that long ago.

Also, if its the first game you are playing with your X55, check the driver has installed properly in your device manager (ie no exclamation marks). Make sure you have the latest versions installed for driver and software too.

Let me know how you go. :)

I got it all to work. Had to move my controllers around to different USB ports. I am still unable to change the stick axes settings in the Saitek software. For some reason the settings are greyed out. I can adjust the throttle fine but not the stick. I opened a ticket with Saitek. You profile is great! I really appreciate you taking the time to share it. It saves us a ton of time.
