I hate Windows with passion since version 1.0, but when a game runs fullscreen i don't see the OS and couldn't care less.

Can we have a MS-DOS version ? ;)

So this is just an anti-Windows sentiment, not necesarily an anti-Micorosft sentiment then?

Shouldn't be so far of with a Mac version in pipeline... Depending on what sort of technologies they choose. But If they do the Mac version in, say C++11, and use a 3D engine based on OpenGL there should be a quite small effort to port it to GNU/Linux or Android/Linux systems.

Yes, but the point is, they made a Mac stretch goal based on an overwhelming amount of Mac interest. But this poll isnt exactly reflecting that.

I agree, it's looking like a Linux stretch goal would of been better, but that doesn't take into account all the people who voted *nix as they would gladly dump windows tomorrow if it meant they could still game.

in my view a Linux goal wouldn't of added to the user base, just taken from the existing one while Mac support is a genuine widening of the user base as a lot of people have a Mac and no windows compared to the few who have Linux but no windows or Mac.

So, despite what the poll suggests I'd say FD got it right.

The other thing about the MAC version which would appeal to FD, is all those apple mac stores everywhere may well have a copy of Elite running on some of their big iMac screens. Hence very good advertising for ED.

The caveat to that is that if the Steam console is released this year (which is Linux based AFAIK), and E: D ends up on Steam, a Linux version would make much more commercial sense than Mac.

Ideally Linix because I want to convert to Linix but right now windows gets the most support

I wanted to learn Linux too, which is why I bought my Raspberry Pi. At around £30 it's cheap and easy to get started and if you mess it up you just write another SD image or buy multiple CD cards.

it's a much safer route then dual booting my only computer.

Mine is now running as a web server and MySQL db server (LAMP) and I'm converting to new languages (Python and PHP)

I don't think I've enjoyed computing as much since my BBC days.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit probably, will certainly be Windows 7 64bit, of some description and definately not Windows 8:eek:

Voted OS purely because since obtaining a career in graphic design, this is the platform I've ended up on. I would've voted windows if mine hadn't died last year :(

It was an anti-GUI+Mouse sentiment but not very serious :p

I will have to install Win7 64 on my next PC anyway to run Star Citizen (currently running XP on a Core2Duo) so i won't install a second OS to run Elite.

But i suport a Mac & Linux version because people should have the choice.

It's interesting that you included "Web Browser" as an OS. (Assuming you really mean "platform", no "OS"). There's a whole lot of implications about hardware resource usage that are abstracted away by building on a browser platform. Just wondering if the technology has progressed to the point where it's possible to do a game like Elite satisfactorily purely in a browser.

I'm still wondering how much work it would take to port Oolite to JavaScript so I could play it during meetings at work

I'll run it on Win 8 (64bit), not everyone seems to like it and the interface takes a little getting used to if you're not running it with a touch screen, but man - it's fast.
