Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Great image.

I find it much more economical, but only slightly less frustrating, to find things using my ship which at least I can refuel without synthesis.
If I remember correctly 0threeleven explores in an Anaconda which is perhaps not optimal for Exobiology. Maybe flying it upside down to stop the big nose obstructing the view of the ground to find the next Exobiology sample may work.

I have no idea what that is.
A computer in the TV show Red Dwarf played by Norman Lovett and Hattie Hayridge, the COVAS voice is/sounds like Norman Lovett IIRC.

Red Dwarf was a British SF comedy that ran for many years, I loved season 1 and unfairly resented season 2, the boss at the BBC decided that there was no room for two SF shows and kept the comedy I had liked the police/detective SF show Star Cops more but it got cancelled

I'll leave this here as a public service announcement:

I've driven my SRV up and down 60 degree+ cliffs with no problems.

Always remember that you have thrusters if things start to go pear shaped.
Yes I had a feeling it would be ok, but in the end I had no need to go down there as after I got back to the ship and did a bit of low surface skimming, I found plenty of what I needed in a different area not far away anyway.

Right now I'm only 25 jumps away from the megaship "CB-30 Ironstar Varangia," where I'm hoping to be able to offload all the valuable exploration data I still have with me.

I think Lovett is listed in the game credits iirc. Also, Marina Sirtis.

A Jean Luc Picard would've been great. Even better would have been one by The Shat.

I still think a Joannah Lumley would be spiffing though, eh sweetie darling, hmm?

Shatner is available as an HCS Voicepack (Orion) - there is also Data, Troi, Worf and Q plus a decent imitation of Spock.

I notice that they are HUGELY more expensive than when I bought them - although there is a sale on at the moment.

I encountered one planet with some very deep ravines, and I wanted to go down to the bottom just to see what it was like, really. I thought perhaps some bio would be down there too, but I just thought the deepness and steepness looked interesting.

I'm pretty decent with the SRV, but these cliffs were nearly vertical and I was pretty sure the SRV wouldn't get back up once I went down, so I went on foot.

Note that my Artemis has both enhanced jump assist and longer sprint times, and I've done a fair bit of spelunking in it, so I was confident I'd be OK.

I almost wasn't!

The cliffs were impossible to climb, even with jump assist. I could get partway up, but then I'd just slide back down helplessly.

In the end I had to follow the bottom of the ravine for a long way until eventually there was a lesser slope I could actually climb.

It was amusing, and the closest I've come to dying while doing exobiology (it wasn't that close, I had plenty of battery left, but it made me realize that it might be possible to die out there).

I kept the coordinates in case I ever want to go back there, but it's a long way from anything, so I probably never will.
