Let's play: Guess the Winter DLC

Good pack idea but the Giant Eland actually has no presence in EAZA Zoos (I do not know how common it is in other parts of the world). I do not really mind that and I just mentioning it because I had always the feeling that this is an important criteria for your animal choices. How about to replace the biggest African antelope with the smallest?
#Team DikDik
Several giant eland noted in aza facilities in the usa according to zoochat

Guess im just gonna replace it with the common one, my bad for that overseight.
I actually considerd a duiker, but imo the pack was missing size with only the birds and arguably maned wolf being larger then a dog, so a large ungulate felt like a perfect fit
Just looked it up at Wikipedia. It seems that both, the common and the Giant Eland are actually the same size but the Giant Eland has bigger horns.

My second go, something i also havent seen, a desert pack, starting with..
1. The Emu: The most common non exhibit animal from australia and in the top 10 most common zoo animals in the EAZA. Distinct look, mad common, from australia, war veteran, can use an existing rig, popular, whats not to love?
2. Collared Peccary: Super common in zoos, a range across grasslands, deserts and tropical forest across the southern parts of north america and the northern of south america. Also pig. 10/10 no questions asked
3. Dromedary: Anybody expecting a desert pack without a dromedary is a fool, so are those believing there is even a slim chance we get if for free.
4. Hamadryas Baboon: Its desert monke with a new bodytype from northern africa and the middle east. If that sentence didnt make you drool more with each word i dont understand
5. Striped Hyena: Imagine you got an animal thats common in zoos, fills an underrepresented building niche for mid size carnivores in small groups, lives across northern africa, the middle east, south western asia and india and looks cute and cool. Good thing that the striped hyena exists to make this dream a real possibility
6. Greater Bilby: A mix of an eleohant shrew, rabbit and kangaroo that is super common in australian zoos and planned to be established in europe. They are just cute and small and would make chudditch smile
7. Ringtail: Imagine racoon but looooooong.
Not at all common in the EAZA, but in the AZA and just cute as heck. Would work great with the peccary for NA desert sections while also fitting well into nicturnal or small mammal houses.
8. Budgies: Small loud birds that are the only australian animal more common then the emu due to their ease of access.
Id honestly prefer the domestic version as its realisticly the ones you will see in most zoos and because of their greater comor variation.

2/3/3/1/1 is a good split if you ask me with many different taxa and even two domestics (three if you want to include tamed miners cats).

Well lets give it a go with some packs!

Grassland pack: (surprised nobody did that so far)
1. Greater Rhea: Important backbone for South American Sections together with the...
2. Patagonian Mara! Really these two are the most needed south american animals, nothing spectacular but defenetly unique and common in zoos.
3. Maned Wolf: As the largest predator of the Pampa, it only feels right to have him as our third and final south american animal in the pack. Also popular
4. Black Footed Ferret: A conservation marvel that would fit great with the prariedogs as a predator and prey dynamic. Would be a great and unique representation for the great plains
5. Common Eland: No ungulate so far and no more to come, the largest african antelope of them all seems like a fitting addition to a grassland pack
6. Secretary Bird: i dont really care about them but they are popular and a second bird thats quite different from our ingamd birds so why not
7. Lace Monitor: the reptile of the pack, its the most common australian monitor species in zoos and has a wide range across the continent
8. Red Fody (WE): A small bird from madagascar thats both colorfull and common in zoos woth 48 EAZA holdings

This pack might not be the most diverse in continents with a 3/3/1/1 split, but imo thats fine as both africa and south america didnt get a lot of dlc content.
Africa had by far the best base game start, but some fresh new animals would be very welcome.
The eland could easily be swapped for the back buck, which while also a good inclusion feels more like a nice addition, while the giant eland as the largest antelope feels more bombastic, something that any new especally african antelope needs.

I’d be VERY disappointed with this mix for a grassland pack - I have no issue with any of the animals per se, but a grassland back with only one Australian animal? Hell no! Emu is more needed than Rhea and a macropod is waaay more needed than any of the other species suggested. Lace monitor is great but we really need the Australian staples. It’s been three years - I’d like to have the ability to make a somewhat realistic Australian section (I’ve more or less given up on being able to ever make a realistic Australian zoo (without mods)).

Im honest i do not want the emu in a grassland pack.
It straight up doesnt need to be as it can easily come with a desert pack.
Its pretty much in the top 2 animals for a desert pack with nothing similar to it, while the rhea is arguably just as needed for non tropical south america, fits the grassland biome better and doesnt fit with another pack as easily.
I unironically believe that if the rhea isnt in a grassland pack its best bet would be as an anniversary animal, which it could realisticly be, but if thats the best bet for it then id rather wait a little longer for the emu which is near guranteed for a desert pack and my personal primsry guess for next years summer dlc

 Must ... fight... mental... image. (Educator showing that ugly Pepe around...)
😂 Now I want someone to make this as a Mod

1. The Emu: The most common non exhibit animal from australia and in the top 10 most common zoo animals in the EAZA. Distinct look, mad common, from australia, war veteran, can use an existing rig, popular, whats not to love?
:D War Veteran. They'd need a unique Fight Animation though at least

🥳

Striped Hyena: Imagine you got an animal thats common in zoos, fills an underrepresented building niche for mid size carnivores in small groups
Aren't Striped Hyenas solitary or is it different in Captivity?

7. Ringtail: Imagine racoon but looooooong.

Interesting. Expected them to be rare in Zoos for some Reason

8. Budgies: Small loud birds that are the only australian animal more common then the emu due to their ease of access.

Would be really nice in smaller Zoos that mainly keep domesticated Animals (even though we don't really have many of those right now. But definitely also great for Australia Sections👍)

I also think that the Shrubland animal pack would be really neat packed with very highly requested animals and introducing completly new biome and map.

Tropical and subtropical grasslands, savannas and shrublands map

There is something really interesting in shrublands as they are a mix of dry savannas & deserts usually dominated by small-leaved evergreen vegetation.

Shrubland animal pack
Emu
Echidna
Maned wolf
Black howler monkey
Caracal
Crested porcupine
Somali wild donkey
Ex: Frilled necked lizard

1 highly requested bird
1 highly requested canine
1 highly requested small cat
1 highly requested rodent
3 more or less popular oddballs

3 totally new models for echidna and procupine and howlers
4 easier and harder reskins for donkey, caracal, emu and maned wolf

Total of 2 carnivores 2:5

Exibit animal that will require special animation.

One of the greatest pack idea I have seen until now. Unfortunately I still doubt we get a warmer climate related pack.

I think there is a chance of a warmer climate pack. After all is summer in the southern hemisphere lol

I like the shrubland idea. I think is better than grassland and even better if they create a new biome for it.

Cool animal roster, but my personal choice for the animals for this kind of pack would be:

1. Emu
2. Maned wolf
3. Secretary bird
4. Caracal
5. African crested porcupine
6. Collared peccary
7. Echidna or armadillo
8. An owl or vulture (EX)

Rhea and patagonian mara were runner ups (and personal favorites over the emu and the porcupine) but i doubt we'll get two ratites that are also similar in shape and two rodents in one pack.

My guess is a Mountains Animal Pack because I associate mountains with cold -> winter. I am guessing Frontier will this time pick animals from neglected regions like South-America
and also add more monkeys since this would please a lot of people. So here goes:

1. Wolverine
2. Spectacled Bear
3. Guanaco
4. Takin
5. Yellow-Footed Rock Wallaby
6. L'Hoest's Monkey
7. Lion-Tailed Macaque
8. Veiled (Yemen) Chameleon (E)

I think the next DLC to come out is going to be an Animal Pack. And I am hesitating between 2 options: Mountain animals or Tropical forest animals

Mountain Animal Pack
  1. Ethiopian Wolf (EN)
  2. Andean Mountain Cat (EN)
  3. Golden Snub-nosed Monkey (EN)
  4. Spectacled Bear (VU)
  5. Tibetan Antelope (NT)
  6. Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby (NT)
  7. Mountain Goat (LC)
  8. Alpine Newt (LC) [exhibit]

Tropical Forest Animal Pack
  1. Sumatran Rhinoceros (CR)
  2. Fossa (VU)
  3. Giant Armadillo (VU)
  4. Ocellated Turkey (NT)
  5. Brown-throated Sloth (LC)
  6. Red River Hog (LC)
  7. Yellow-throated Marten (LC)
  8. Large Flying Fox (NT) [WE]

Emus are primarily savanna woodland / sclerophyll forest (including temperate forest) birds, not desert ones (though, admittedly, they are sometimes found in semi-arid areas, so should also have ‘desert’ as an available biome under frontier’s definition of desert). Rheas would be just as, if not more, appropriate as emus for a desert pack.

I think I would actually be the happiest with Coastal animal pack introducing fully aquatic manatee and new coastal biome:

Manatee
Walrus
Rockhopper penguin
Great white pelican
Perè David’s deer
Sea otter
Sea turtle or any other large not solitary freshwater turtle
Ex: Atlantic puffin

An idea I'm both surprised and unsurprised hasn't been brought up here yet is a Woodland Animal Pack. Surprised because it was so popular prior to the Twilight Pack, unsurprised because of the Twilight Pack's roster being what it was. Rather than the traditional approach of sticking to temperate woodlands, I've decided to include species from a mix of different woodland types in a similar vein to the Wetland and Aquatic packs.
  1. Tasmanian Devil
  2. Bennett's Wallaby
  3. African Crested Porcupine
  4. Black Howler Monkey
  5. South American Coati
  6. Wild Boar
  7. Golden Pheasant
  8. Frilled Lizard [E]

Also why did my Post from yesterday not send again? It's already the second Time that something like this happened 😑
I also have this problem sometimes. Or when I want to reply to several people at once and it deletes a certain part of my message. 🤔
