Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Yeah in terms of the fun of building caprines >>> ungulates. They’re so much more fun to build for cause you can really play around with making rocky cliff enclosures.
Definitely! They also lend themselves to "layered" habitats really nicely. And, if you line the sightlines up correctly, you can have the caprine in one spot higher-up with a smaller critter in a lower spot/totally separate habitat that all looks like one habitat to the viewer.
Agreed. The top 3 right now I believe are coati, Secretary bird and Wolverine. I don’t think they would do the Wolverine in a summer or spring pack so we either get it next pack or wait until a potential fall 2024 pack, which even though the community has waited that long for an animal before (devil) I don’t know if they’re gonna risk it. I would think they would do Wolverine next, Coati (SA) in spring, and Secretary in the Sumer in whatever way they would like to form the pack.
See, this all gets real tricky for me because since the Wetlands pack Frontier has had a strong tendency toward picking the #1 animal from the meta wishlist for inclusion in the next pack. And it depends on what list they're choosing from whether it's wolverine or secretary bird.

What you just mapped out would make (logical) sense but... Frontier has done weirder stuff than saying "Hmmm, let's do a (scrublands/adaptations/birds) pack that's not at all seasonally appropriate to be sure we can work some of these animals in!"

Honestly, as I type this out it's just making me really hope that Narwhaler's theory is correct. LOL

So building off the topic of not every animal in a highlands pack would make the cut, which of the most talked about animals are you willing to sacrifice if we don’t get them?

No offence to this question but it doesn’t have to do with the winter Pack so I’m throwing out another highlands conversation starter.
Can’t imagine the final roster ending up without any wild camelid from SA so I would get rid of hyrax which seems to be not that interesting to me and put Guanaco or Vicuña there. Easy clone like this have a lot of chances actually.

I am somewhere in between with the wolverine being in the highlands pack but for me it would still be the most recognizable animal of the whole pack.

Really hope for a gelada instead of hamadryas.

Your Highlands concept is great but I can’t get rid of a feeling that it misses something.

Ok looking through the zoopedia frontier has made a pack for all but 3 of the "continents" they have identified africa, europe, south americia, north america, oceania, south east asia. The 3 remaining are asia, central america and antartica what does everyone think the chances we will get the last 3 as packs.

Also going through the biomes the same way they have included grasslands, tropical and aquatic leaving desert, temperate, taiga and tundra without packs
Interestingly enough they have done 2 region and 2 biome packs not relevant to the zoopedia australia / arctic and arid / wetlands

whilst biomes dont have that strong of a trend I can definitely see the continents as a strong possibility of getting finished off.

Arid and wetlands are directly related to desert and aquatic. They just already had an Aquatic pack and included a couple of animals in the arid pack which meant the name desert didn’t really work

Central america has a good chance and asia, while not impossible is less likely. Antarctica is pretty much safe to say that its not gonna happen. Like what would a pack even be 4 penguins and 3 seals?

For the biomes i think temperate has the best chance, but the rest has good chance aswell. Although i think they would combine taiga and tundra into one

I actually posted a theoretical Antarctica pack a while ago it was 2 seals 2 penguins and an aquatic invertebrate with like either research facility scenery or old steam boat and lighthouse theme pieces but yeah not really likely

Tundra and taiga would be tricky they would have to theme it well probably the tundra pack being much more polar and aquatic with like the muskox and an elephant seal or walrus to make sure it seemed different enough from taiga to make it worth it.

Can’t find the original question post but regarding most talked about animals I’d be willing to sacrifice if we don’t get them?

Mammal wise anything but the Wolverine and Spectacled Bear. I have a very very firm line after the bear, in which I’d be willing to sacrifice my third most wanted mammal, a tree kangaroo.

Bird wise anything but the Shoebill, Secretarybird. So my next most wanted, a Swan essentially.

They could do a general Polar Pack, but I don't see it as remotely likely. As much as I'd love a complete collection of penguins, I doubt we'll see any more at all, and as far as pinnipeds are concerned none of the Antarctic ones have a very major zoo presence anyway. Leopard seals would be cool, but IIRC the only captive ones have been rescues.

The "new" unofficial meta-wishlist has it third after the coati and secretary bird.
Makes me think if these wishlists were done via an online form where you submit animals but cannot see the wishlist until completed, the order of animals would be vastly different as I find it hard to believe that hundreds of people think the Wolverine, coati and secretary bird are the most needed animals.

I think we still have taiga, temperate, and tundra as far as biome packs would go. I would say desert as well but I would think the arid pack might have been that. Personally I really hope frontier gives us a tundra pack as winter dlc. A lot of great animals to fill that niche especially the musk ox. Perfect Xmas gift.

Seems kinda quiet, so let’s do a team building activity!

How did you get into nature, animals, zoo games, and eventually Planet Zoo?

I’ll go first!

When I was a wee little tot, my parents sent me to a private preschool. It was very focused on teaching through nature and they always had us learn about that sort of thing. That’s where I developed my love for the natural world and animals. Zoo days were my favorite, and I was always very interested in the habitat design and arrangement. I would always come home and me and my sister would set up our own zoo with stuffed animals around the house. I would draw maps for fictional zoos and think of what animals it could have and where they would be. As I got older, I didn’t go to zoos as much and lost that little bit for the rest of my life.

That was until, last winter.
I was sitting on the couch watching YouTube, when I got an ad for the Planet Zoo Grasslands Pack. I didn’t skip it, just let it play. This was the zoo designer I had always wished existed when I was a kid! I purchased the game and played it for the first time. My first animal was Red Deer. I fell in love with it immediately and played it nonstop in all my free time. That brings us to June of last year, right after the Arid Pack released. That’s when I joined this Forum and met some of the best people I have in my life that share their passion for nature and animals that I had forgotten about. I just want to say that Planet Zoo and these forums have changed my life. For the better.
I like this so I’ll bite!

It started super young for me, so young I can’t remember when I officially started be8ng obsessed with animals. My mom told me stories when I was a baby I would be so excited to see any animal, so I guess it started when I was only a couple months old 😂 When I was younger I began collecting animal books, and my favorite shows were Zaboomafoo and the Crocodile Hunter. Eventually I played Zoo Tycoon on my friends DS, and played more animal themed games for the Wii. In middle school I bought my first laptop, where I could play Zoo Tycoon 2 Ultimate Collection. In high school I began modding it, and that’s around when I got Zoo Tycoon for the Xbox.

When I got a more powerful laptop I got Planet Zoo and all the DLC, but I’ll admit I don’t play as much as I would like to. There is so much in the game I have a hard time picking it back up. Lately I have been trying to make a New England type zoo, and maybe when I get around to making it I might actually share it on here. Right now my plan is the biggest animal will be the Bison, but most of the animals are much smaller than that.

Here is my current roster:
  1. Bison + Pronghorn
  2. Cougar
  3. Japanese Macaque
  4. African Penguins and Sea Lions next to each other.
  5. The kiwi in the same building as my herps + invertebrates
  6. Peacock
  7. Llamas as a farm area
  8. Butterfly House
  9. Alligator and Aldabra Tortoise next to each other
  10. Fallow Deer, Red Crowned Crane, and Flamingo around the main building, with bathrooms, food, gift shops, and education.

Unless it's two pheasants, two cranes, and another penguin or ratite, it won't happen, because otherwise it would be too many unique species for an animal pack. And as far as bird diversity goes, I don't think that's what people are after.
The more time goes on the more I agree with you, but even your hypothetical bird pack would still be kind of nice. So if we assume it’s the same 8 animal pack it could be something like this:
  1. Grey Crowned Crane
  2. Demoiselle Crane
  3. Golden Pheasant
  4. Himilayan Monal
  5. Gentoo Penguin
  6. Greater Rhea
  7. American flamingo
  8. Mute Swan (the new rig for the pack)
I’m so starved for more birds (I was more excited for the kiwi and blue penguin than the devil) I will take anything at this point.

Then fully marine animals and flying (exhibit) birds would probably take all the top soots. Even if the rules were not to include them.

I wouldn't mind that actually, it would give the metawishlists a much more trustworthy stance regarding 'what the community wants'.Then the same rules apply surely as the current way, it would simply stop people seeing oh super niche animal I remember from zoo tycoon, lets vote for that instead of personal favourite animals whether its another regionally unique animal or another tiger.
