Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Oh right, i forgot the most important factor why forum fears golden monkey. It is simply more popular and marketable for generic audience than almost every other ,,basic,, primate is.
So in the end it has great potential to appear in any pack over forum preffered primates. And we know Frontier would rather appeal to masses/new audience than few people who are going to be upset with one monkey, but still buy DLC regardless lol.
It happened with sloth, sand cat and now with the quokka. Golden monkey can be the next one, especially when people demand cold climate pack.
Sad but true.

Sure is not the priority. And yes i rather get NW and African basic monkeys but i would be lying if i say i will be upset if the Golden monkey gets into a DLC. Is it needed? No. Am i asking for them before any NW monkey? No Do i like it? Yes. Is one of my favorite primates.
The thing with the golden snub nose monkey is that just as the proboscis monkey IF we had a sufficent ammount of primates, id like them. They are cool, visually unique and add something special to the game, but with the current state of the game they just feel like a well intentioned mistake. Why am i not so salty about the proboscis monkey anymore?
Cause since then we got the nr 1 animal that felt like it should be there instead, twice even as we got 2 gibbons. While a langur and a tropical macaque aswell might be ideal, for tropical asia i gotta admit that most of them arnt that interesting and that the proboscis monkey is allmost objectivly the cooler and more unique choice.
SEA is borderline completly fine for primates, id even argue it allready is and while for example the crab eating macaque would have filled the same niche of semi aquatic monkey while also being very common in zoos, they do be kinda dull looking, like a japanese macaque without the bright face and a tail. Similar goes for the southern pig tailed macaque or rhesus macaque, even barbary as they all are just super similar in appearance to the japanese with the only macaque thats really strongly visually distinct being the sulawesi crested and lion tailed.
Id still like atleast one of them but im also fine without them.
Similar for langurs who are all significantly more distinct from each other but also all arnt actually that common in zoos, with no stand out super common or significantly special one, making choosing one kind of like spinning a wheel and throwing a dart.
Id even be completly fine with the goldensnub nose monkey and say its a cool addition for the current roster of asian primates, BUT then we look at africa which desperatly needs it standard monkey or the fact that the game itself really does need that baboon and even worse at south america which literally needs bare minimum 3, for actual somewhat satisfying okayish roster 5 more monkeys and my apathy to the golden snub nosed quickly rises.
Even if it was more common in zoos it would just be again kinda a waste to take something from asia thats not needed in a pack most likly allready dominated (if not entirly made up looking at the arid pack) of asian animals, so it just leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. I want to like it as a potential addition and im so close to it, but its just ughh.
If frontier would have given us 2 more south american monkeys somewhere along the way, i wouldnt be half as apathatic about it , but they didnt and its just frustrating to think about

This aswell
I know that a mountain pack could be amazing but i fear that frontier will drop the ball on it like they did with arid and tropical and just do something lame

I actually think that getting the peccary makes getting the boar in the next pack more unlikly if anything.

Speaking of which, how are people feeling about a temperate pack now that the devil and kiwi are out? No just for the next pack but more in general.
I remember those were a big part of most speculations about such a pack.
the reason kiwi and devil were a big part of speculation was they were the animals people thought were most likely to be added in general they were in alot of pack speculation there is still plenty of room for a temperate pack focusing on europe asia or north america. It being the next pack however is unlikely.
We just need them shorter. Not so tall. That alone will do wonders.

But I guess Planconians just naturally build oversized buildings, because the viewing dome entrance is also huge
Doors will forever haunt my dreams why are they either 8m tall or too small to fit in the door frame. also the regular exhibits are also too tall it didnt need to be 4m high.

Feels kinda quiet around here this afternoon so I'll build off of what @KönigDerKaffeebohnen said about a mountains pack may not be exactly what we hope for.
This is what I hope we will get:

SPECTACLED BEAR-7.jpg
SPECTACLED BEAR-8.jpg
SPECTACLED BEAR-4.jpg

Don't google the length of the yellow anaconda then, pretty much any visible exhibit box animal is going to be bigger than our small habitat animals.
yeah im pretty dissapointed in the anaconda / boa and straight up outraged at the iguanas being exhibits the snakes I get since making a snake move and not look weird is likely very very difficult and not worth it. Overall there has been a trend that they have been making smaller and smaller animals recently so I dont think something like the iguana if released now would be an exhibit animal.

Im still hoping for a marine iguana

Whereas this is what I think we will actually get (I'm not saying any of the ones frontier chooses are bad, they just aren't what I would look forward to:

I really hope I'm wrong on that last one.
I mean, if we get the snub nosed monkey and not the gelada, I think I (and many others) will riot.

If im allready mentioned, why not give my take for a likly "worst case"?
So for that it would all come from the same area with the himalayah/asia being by far the most likly and im not super against that as i personally really love the region but id still say that its defenetly would be quite the waste to give africa some of its last big misses (baboon + barbary sheep) and to not give south america (spectacle bear), europe (alpine marmot) and oceania (yellow footed rock wallaby) one each to tickle a bit more content for them.

So for a pack that doesnt sound unreasonable from just the himalaya id pick:
  • takin
  • domestic yak
  • markhor
  • pallas cat
  • himalayan monal
  • corsac fox
  • golden snub nose monkey
  • exhibit whatever idc but i guess chinese giant salamander

First of, i dont think that this pack is bad per say, id actually would most likly be very usefull, but id still vastly prefer an around the world approach.
I also assumed that we get 3 ungulates and 2 carnivoras as those are not just frontier favorite but most of the time take up atleast half the animal pack atleast besides wetlands which had just 3, so thats a sadly realistic take. +2 extra goodies that arnt from those groups assuming that frontier loves us enough to finally reuse the pheasent rig.
I dont hate it, but i also really do not love it, but hey id rather get something lame and usefull then something thats both lame and not usefull, so with this as a likly "worst" pack for me i feel pretty hopefull to have a good time once a mountain pack drops

Which is exactly why frontier would choose it lol

But seriously even though I would never touch it, I think a good point comes up that it is more appealing to the general public over a Gelada.
eh both are cool in different way. Golden voldemort vs the bleeding heart beast sounds like a pretty even match to me in the general public, both not well know, both visually distinct and stunning in their own ways and both being potentially very ugly to some people.
I really dont see a clear favorite here unless one of them becomes the next tiktok whatever trend

I mean, if we get the snub nosed monkey and not the gelada, I think I (and many others) will riot.
  • Monkey that is visually unique
  • From Asia
  • Endangered with conservation programs
  • Rare in zoos
  • Looks Cool
Yeah sounds like frontier would choose this over a baboon. Still though I think it's important we find a good balance between much needed animals for realism and unique rarer animals to keep content packs diverse enough from each other.

While I appreciate that people are also choosing the titicaca water frog I do think that a giant salamander would be much more impressive and welcomed, even if it's limited to the 4x4 exhibit. Either way I am hoping for something more substantial if we get mountains instead of birds.
