Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

I really NEED this floof:

...but at the same time I'm anxious we won't ever get it x(
To your happyness and my somewhat mediocre disappointment i can tell ya that if its a mountain animal pack i got zero doubt that frontier would include the pallas cat.
Just look at arid, we got the porcupine and a bunch of ungulate with the only other thing being a relativly unpopular cat compared to the pallas cat while not picking the african spurred tortoise, a baboon or literally anything else thats more interesting.
If frontier can fit a cat they will, as much as that disappoints me

He has doble chances though. Mountains/Taiga or Latín América
Agreed, i wont be terribly upset if he wont be in the next dlcs, but lets say im quite certain when im allready building for them.

If we wont get a mountain pack happens, maybe next time, understandable, but if we get one and he wont be in it im genuinly just confused

Quote from the report:
"Frontier is therefore pleased to confirm three future CMS games with one releasing in each of the next three financial years - FY25, FY26 and FY27. Alongside this we will continue to develop and support our portfolio of existing games, including Elite Dangerous, our F1® Manager franchise, and Realms of Ruin."

It looks like PZ support may be ending at the end of FY24 kind of like we expected. Not trying to start a doom posting thread, just noticed ot and want people's thoughts.

I hope you're right. Even when it disappoints you. Still I think, if it isn't included in a Mountain Pack, it will never come.
Why? I don't know for sure. It's just some uncomfortable feeling deep in my guts. I can't explain it.

Would be a hella stupid financial decision, even if that was their plan.
2 of the 3 games flopped hard, meanwhile planet zoo is their most consistent seller that doesnt rely on an outside IP, so especally when they are in unexpected financial trouble producing an extra year of dlc would be the savest and most reliable thing they could do

Yeah but the behaviour thingy is usually a big hint as to what animal is going to be featured in the DLC and based on that you can fairly guess the theme. Happened with spitting for llamas (was obvious that we were getting the dromedary and there for some kind of desert themed pack) and the trash and scape thingy hinting to the raccoon. I don't remember about previous packs though.
Yeah sure; as I said, you can easily guess what the animal alongside it is going to be. But usually, the rest of the update is fairly unrelated to the theme of the pack. So I wouldn't go as far as to say that the updates are connected to the pack thematically 😅

Why would they not mention PZ in that report then? :/ uncomfortable gut-feeling increases

I don't think they are actually going to stop planet zoo support this financial year at least, further up in the same report mentions that CMS games like planet coaster, Zoo and jwe are the most consistent form of profit. Supporting new releases and contracted games is likely going to happen regardless, and elite dangerous is still probably the most profitable game Frontier has.

I totally get that and while they are mid at best for me, id be happy to see them just for your sake
Afterall its also not like the pallas cat is a bad animal, just not very exciting to me, cause yk overcaturation
On its own its a fine animal, but all i can see is that it will most likly come at the expanse of an asian pheasent which i am desperate to get my hands on

MHM... I read the report. What can I say? If they can stay focused on the areas where they are the world leader. I guess there's really no problem making a profit. Ask: In the current game market, which game can be a direct threat to JW, PZ? I don't think so. So stop doing things you're not good at and build on your huge strengths and experience in the field of simulation. Innovation is still possible in this area. What if there's a game like "European Trucker"? Or play as a farmer building his own farm, or develop a business simulation "survival at the end of the day" game? Not better than doing the unfamiliar Warhammer series, which already has a lot of related titles?

The report does mention planet zoo:

The Company's four CMS games (Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, Jurassic World Evolution and Jurassic World Evolution 2) continue to perform well and have each achieved over $100 million of gross revenue with a combined total of over $500 million. All four games achieved profitability within one month of release and delivered over 100% return on investment within 12 months of release. The three games which have been in the market for four years or longer - Planet Coaster, Jurassic World Evolution and Planet Zoo - have all achieved a cumulative return on investment of over 250%.
I understand that since those 4 games are so successful, they are going to make three new ones of the same style, but they are also continuing their other games which are not CMS. I don't worry about PZ. They keep it's a successful game, there's no reason to stop it.

PZ is not only a successful game, it is a "monopoly" game. In the zoo related game, who can challenge it? After some hard thinking, I thought it must be JW and JW2.LOL

There is no challenger that can take on PZ, the closest thing we have is games like JWE2 and PK but only because they are park management games, but PZ is still very unique because of its modular system and it has animals rather than dinosaurs. As long as the game stays at a decent financial rate with every DLC, and no new challengers come up which I don’t see any time soon, there shouldn’t be any reason to stop making packs. Unless the layoffs did that big of an impact that it will effect the work quality or time management, but that’s really something none of us know about.

This pack would be glorious! Personally, I'd swap out the rhea for something else (e.g., spectacled bear, bush dog) and I'm still not convinced the tamarins make sense as WTE animals but regardless... This pack would be an instant purchase for me based solely on the provision of the coati, ocelot, howler, tamandua, and mara!
Hmm, yeah there aren't always hints but we have sometimes had some good ones from the free updates:

  • Update 1.1: Aurora borealis hinting at Arctic DLC
  • Update 1.2: Tropical rocks and foliage hinting at South America pack
  • Update 1.4: Deep swimming, underwater feeder and water temperature hinting at Aquatic pack
  • Update 1.8: Burrows hinting at a burrowing animal, which was the badger in the Europe pack
  • Update 1.9: Terracing terrain tool and bathing behaviour hinting at Wetlands pack
  • Update 1.11: Flippin the bins hinting at Raccoon in Twilight pack, and walkthrough exhibits hinting at.....well, bats it turned out
  • Update 1.15: No hints needed as they came out at the same time, but lava rocks etc
I mean, they don't really hint at themes but there's usually something in the update that relates to the DLC. They've gotten much better at masking what that is over time but it's there.

Like, the addition of the viewing domes in the last update fit perfectly with the smaller animals from the Oceania pack, revisions to the exhibit system made sense with the bats in the Twilight pack, and so on. But they've gotten much better about not providing the "give-away" stuff (e.g., new foliage) until the new DLC drops.

There's usually enough to say that it could tie to a certain aspect of a DLC but pretty hard to pinpoint it compared to like, them saying you're getting free tropical rocks like they did ahead of the SA pack.

Most importantly, it mentions they're going to continue to support the existing games so... If anything, I think that bodes well. At least until another game is announced and/or released.

It would be an odd move to pull the plug on things that are clearly earning them a consistent income stream at this juncture.

Planet coaster 2 more likely IMO

Planet aquarium or planet museum would be absolute dreams though
Those would be amazing.

Personal dream would be Planet Garden - act as a landscape architect and nurture your client's garden through the years and seasons or start your own. There's no good realostic simulation for planning a garden that I know of other than farmsim and that's a very different scale...
