🎆 Prediction of the Year - 2023 🎆

In a slow year for SC champions, we turn to a hardened veteran...

Refreshing his 2021 hit parade, with some scope creep to make CR proud, our winner is... :)

As you are short on believers here, I'm pleased to offer you something to discuss in january 2024, my prediction for 2023
  • SQ42 beta end of 2023, early 2024 ❌
  • Vulkan late this year ❌
  • Second system late 2023, early 2024 ❌
  • iCache a huge mess at start, good tech at the end of 2021 PES released, sorry to not let this one 👍👎
  • real components in ships❌
  • power management in ships❌
  • some animals and créatures on planets (no clue about this but I've a good feeling about it 😊) ❌

---

A few debatable things in there perhaps:
  • Is PES 'good tech' at the end of 2023? (The CEO says no 🤷‍♂️)
  • Did Pyro's brief appearance in a test server (with some slugs) count as a delivery?
  • Does the soft launch of the odd component count? (IE the new tank stops functioning if the power plant is removed. Although broader rollout is technically still blocked.)
  • Do the current power management stations count as the roadmapped Engineering update? (Nah ;))

But that's the fun of SC :)

We can chew over all that while we wait for Server Meshing to not appear ;)

Well now play the game.

What do you think SC spent its $30m marketing budget on in 2022?
Took a while for me to remember, but CIG were still paying these marketing people in 2022:

Food for thought
And these are complete wastes of money considering how quickly tech devalues. But I know what I'd rather have, probably more likely of getting some pillion riders with that than the other thing. 😄

Oh, and out of curiosity I did look up how many Harleys one could buy with UD48K$, it's up to 3 depending on model. One for you and each of the honeys, no pillions required. :ROFLMAO:

that is one of the worst, most incorrect articles i have read (well, not all of it) recently.

At least they get things done, the Invictus trailer was pretty awesome. But still it's telling that the focus is on eye candy over functionality, I'm sure that and the other trailers they list on their webpage cost more than a few Legatus packs to make.

It absoloutely should be, but then the whole thing fails, because the point is its meant to appear like organic/grassroots fandom. If people actually were honest about being promoted by CIG (or many other game companies for that matter), then its clear they are shilling.
More than just shilling, there's FTC regulations that, well, regulate that sort of thing, and they have the weight of law behind them.

True, but I was only concerned about the price of those things. They are pretty horrible machines. Still better ways to waste money than other things.

I looked at the first one and read where it listed the Quadro RTX 8000 as a GPU and thought, nope, that's rubbish for gaming, (compared to proper gaming GPU's) these aren't gaming PC's, they are graphics workstation designed for specific tasks which they are very good at. I have seen them and seen people using them, but they aren't good at gaming! They aren't horrible machines, but you could get a better gaming PC for a tenth of the price. They are worth the price for people who are using them for what they are designed for.

It is indeed a very poor article written by someone who has no understanding of the different requirements these machines address, that much I will give you.

Soft Layoffs happening for months

Pros
PTO is okay but not as much as other companies offer and health benefits are good.

Cons
There have been soft layoffs happening especially in the US although CIG denied layoffs in 2023. This place has huge racism problem form upper management and especially the executives in the UK and EU studios and from the CEO’s wife as well. They might shut down the US studios in the future as they are no longer hiring in the US anymore.

Advice to Management
Work on your diversity hiring as its mostly Caucasian’s in the studio and not a lot of effort to hire diverse candidates in the US.

Hard to speak to the other aspects, but Austin seemed to be a focus point during the prior bout of layoff gossip.

With hiring still much flatter than the prior years, and very UK focused it's easy to believe they might be downsizing the US. (Even if it's possibly driven by other events like the Turbulent merger etc).

Marketing have finished their planning month...
