Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Dunno, they don't say. Maybe from a YT ad?
Yeah now there it makes sense: in a trailer you can be sure they mix in-game or in-SE footage with in-CE cinebox or alike footage.

And my bet is the more "cinematic" or just basically "working gameplay" the trailer is, the more portions of CE are dominant.

Why would it then say "portions of this software"? It's from 2024, too. What an odd thing to bring up old CryTek now.
There's a new, bigger launcher coming up with 3.23 but I haven't seen any splash screenshots of it, yet.

Knightwash: Star Engine is a total rewrite! Only the main menu is still made in CryEngine or something! SC is the first ever twin-engined game in history!

I have an excuse...I'd never heard much about him before star citizen
Me neither. I felt that backing Elite Dangerous was a no brainer being that I'd enjoyed various incarnations of Elite since playing it on my C64, but I was very tempted to back Star Citizen as that looked really good also. The videos of it that were coming out looked great, the sandworm one especially, so I can understand why some felt the way they did in regards to it. However, the ship purchasing etc was something that was an early red flag, especially after reading in the Kickstarter "no pay to win", and ever since the story got worse and worse, and the I found out that the sandworm video and a bunch of others were basically fakes.. But as another well worn saying goes: fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Bonus Bush version.

"The game's almost feature complete"

This must be a parody post. Surely!
Just drinking copious amounts of shill youtuber kool aid.

Hi Chris Roberts my name is Scammy McScam face, I really want to license your game engine. I love how you've struggled to get a constant frame rate which still appears to be server locked, basic stability, tick rate issues, no peripheral support and minimal game loop but the thing that really sealed the deal was how you completely burnt bridges with CryTek themselves not to mention how you've thrown every other official partnership under the bus over the years. I've got a bunch of Crytek developers and artists that you guys fired, which is pretty much all of the available developers that could possibly work with your tech anyway, and we're gearing up to sell pretty Cryengine Pay2Win assets to fools.

Just name your price Chris?

Oh rly Chris, isnt that almost exactly how much you owe those Calders?

Epic must be shaking in their boots.

Star Engine as a product seems like a publicity campaign aimed at backers. I can't see any developer wanting to use an outdated fork of Cryengine poorly supported by a vendor who have struggled with it publicly and failed to make one single game. Where is the documentation for it? Do I get a PDF from CIG? Do they update the documentation when they release updates?

I doubt they are concerned about supporting this as an actual engine any more than they are an actual game.
That claim was always preposterous and most outlandish. It's a bad joke.

Very true, but at the very beginning of all this nonsense we were kind of led to believe that this was to be Genuine Roberts last hurrah and deliver unto us the "vision" he had had for ages but only recently had the technology advanced enough to enable that on home PC's, and that the working prototype ( and solicited as in-game assets, in real time, in-engine no less) just needed a funding push to get them through the next year for release in 2014.

Oh how wrong we were.

The lies, the nonsensical technowaffle, the displayed inability to deliver, the handbaggery, the inability of the fiber to reach the rack, and the absolute lulzbucketry of the CI-G corporate empire reigning supreme over no product has convinced me at least, that Geniune Roberts last hurrah is proving beyond any reasonable doubt that he is, shall we say, utterly incapable of delivering what we were sold, and worse - convinced himself that he has.

Buy an Idris!
Thing is, his track record and how history had already repeated itself from how the Strike Commander debacle went being mirrored by the Freelancer morass, there was far more compelling evidence that Star Citizen would be the ultimate implosion with no publisher to crack the whip on him.

heh, the best tech streamer was just talking about it, maybe you have seen the video.

Spectrum noticed, calls for CIG to make him see reason.
i think Thor kind of miss understands the "concierge" backer.
this is super bad PR because it's not sire if anyone posted this yet but I would love to see Thor contacted by CIG to just have a zoom meeting to justify it.
some times things have an explanation but some people don't know the development project and disagreement happens a lot.

Edit: aaaand it's gone.
