Thargoid invasion - Next target systems?

30 now. Cooldowns, 10 ly range, none of that matters for what can alert. But I still get a "go attack the controls" message from the game, which is the absolute worst idea

not that we have any choice. We cant defend that many alerts, the only way to somewhat win this is to kill the titan in one week. Unless the devs decide to change the rules again.
indeed, we hit it now while it has 7 controls, before that becomes 37 next week.

Thargoids are adapting, either throwing more resources at Oya in addition to everything else or different allocation (are other titans as busy with alerts and invasions as they were, are the Oya alerts very light compared to previously and easily disposed of)

Regardless, it makes a mockery of reducing controls - might as well target Oya directly while it is at it's most vulnerable (that we'll see)

if we throw everyting we have at containing alerts we could probably contain 10 to 13 and we have 30

Yes, though not even in a narratively plausible way. They can't be moving resources from the other Titans as they (apart from Hadad) placed a full set of Alerts anyway. If they've always had the "ability" to do this, there were plenty of other times it would have been far more effective defensively (last week, say). Oya's ability to place a disconnected Alert almost 50 LY from itself could have been used by Taranis to directly attack Meene on any number of occasions [1] when Ram Tah was coming up with ways to destroy them.

[1] And sure, the attack wouldn't have succeeded, but it would have been more interesting than anything Taranis actually did.

Yep if these alerts are similar to previous. If they are light alerts that could be cleared quicker it wouldn't be the case. I'm not sure how to measure this but will attempt to do so (find a percentage complete, sample and sell around 100 limpets and check percentage complete again). I don't expect to see any difference but it will only be an hour or so of my time spent.

Good points. If we discount FD having an ulterior motive (prolonging the war, breaking CMDRs spirits, making a need for new weapons / Python MK II, etc.) the only real explanation would be the Thargoids were half-heartedly scratching an itch but are putting more effort in now humanity has become more of a danger

Week 71, 4th April 3310

Maelstrom Oya
The Titan has attacked thirty systems, preventing a full clearance attempt this week.
Alerts: 28 are clear, reaching the Final Ten next week. Carriers list and Systems spreadsheet
Controls: All payloads are complete! M. Oya thread
Titan: Do not wait for a low-resistance week which may never arrive—attack Titan Oya at Cephei Sector BV-Y b4!
Spire progress will not help this week, and held payloads for the inner seven Control systems will have to wait.

Lol. fdev saw players were planning to prolong the war by not attacking Oya when it is possible this week
Except players weren't planning to prolong the war, taking an extra week to ensure the Titan can be done in a week is not really doing that compared to what fdev have done to prolong it already.
and so encourage the attack this week. Well played fdev :D
All well and good but what after that? No other Titan is even close to the same situation so it solves nothing in the long run.

I can only imagine that maybe they thought it made sense for Titans to have an emergency attack like this available(and the execution might leave things to be desired).

But the way the targeting seems almost erratic in nature, it feels more like a panic attack to me. Surely a system nearly 50 light years out from the Titan won’t be what saves it.

Cephei Sector LC-V b2-5
  • Initial journal "WarProgress":0.000712
  • Drop in on a NHSS 4 signal
  • Shoot across the bow of the Orthrus so it departs
  • 8 Inciters destroyed
  • 111 Inciter samples collected
  • 9th Inciter destroyed
  • Samples sold at Tritea rescue ship, Kisseih
  • Return to Cephei Sector LC-V b2-5
  • Post sale journal "WarProgress":0.003159

Suggesting either 45k samples required, or the system update takes more time than my return took, or I don't understand how sample measurements work

Off to Krait Mk II to help against Oya which has damage resistance of High. O7

Pilots' Federation Alert received today
"If we hope to defeat this Titan we must do what we can to push it out of every star system it currently controls"
Once more they appear to be suggesting a sub-optimal approach versus bruteforcing the Titan itself
Are we going to be able to kill it off in a week
Or will it be a case of biting a bit off, wearing down Controls, and repeating
