Pay2Win made it to Elite

I think a lot of people are, they just don't want to admit it 😉

I’m sure at least some. I don’t have enough ARX banked and I will not buy some to avoid delayed access, but I was already planning on taking down the hotas and swapping over to Manor Lords today so I won’t pretend it is decision made on an island.

What?? That is bull crap!

So the idea is these ships get a newbie a foothold on an aspect of the game, but they can't even actually tinker with the build? These are absolutely terrible concepts.

Building a mediocre ship for a newbie and then highly disincentivizing them from experimenting with the loadout to learn anything from tinkering with the template is awful. These are complete non-starters. Who TF are they actually for????
I'm fairly sure that it will work like the other gifted ships. You'd most certainly be able to replace a module with something new. And if you have removed a module you'll be able to get the default one back, but only in the ship that it belongs to. So you won't be able to move the gear you get to another ship, but you will be able to get it back.

Albeit that is my crystal ball reading between the lines, I'd say it's best to wait until the ships are available to verify how it all works before getting outraged..

That would be hilarious. A non-Elite CMDR buying their way into ShinDez. I'm sure they'd receive a warm welcome from all the Elite CMDRs, especially the ones who earned their first Elite rank in Combat.
Shortly thereafter another solo/pg player is created.

The Credits value of the AX Prebuilt Chief is under 20 millions

This is the build in EDSY - but besides that value, the build has G5 DD 6A Thrusters, 2 small gausses with RamTah Guardian Field Protection
So the build is including some engineering and some unlocks

I'm confused, you said it's under 20mill but the build shows 87mill. What did I miss here?

What are the other options?

Im still waiting for folks to offer any at all.

I wonder what people would have said if it was in the form of a new ships DLC containing the new ships and various prebuilt loadouts, skins, and ship kits?

Still I suspect that the new ships will be needed for the PP2 update, so that probably wouldn't have worked.

It said you must sell your module for 0 credits to remove it to replace with a different module.

Best have some big warning text, which needs triple confirmation.

I got to thinking and the prefab AX ship would be nice to have for even a veteran player that isn't into AX combat but wants to learn and join in the fight. It will still explode but then you aren't wasting credits to just practice getting gud. The load out is just good enough to take some shots and learn when to run away especially with the G5 dd. I couldn't tell you how many credits I've spent on re-buys taking on the bugs.
I think they ought to have made it run under 20% heat (if possible I haven't checked the build). IMO, that would have been a nice perk when paying a tenner for it. But to me it looks like a ship I could easily take to a spire site to farm credits, and even penetrate a maelstrom to get some shots in on the heat core. And who knows, a free rebuy, a skin, and a ship kit maybe makes it worth the tenner for those that want to pay for it. Personally I'm happy that it's not a meta AX ship as that would have tipped the scale towards a more predatory P2W format.

I think we need to wait and see how it works in the game. It wouldn't be the first time they've communicated poorly and the community has jumped to conclusions and outrage.. :)
I sure there must be, but I personally haven't come across a game where you can permanently lose assets which have been purchased with IRL currency. Like I said elsewhere I could imagine a very new player accidentally choosing the free sidewinder after destruction and losing everything.

Depending on what you consider purchased, Eve online was like that last I played. There were special edition ships that came with game time, special edition or bundle purchases as well as implants that could be lost permanently.

Additionally, purchased game time could be converted to an in game item which followed the same rules for ship destruction as anything else, including potential losses.

If we give people the benefit of doubt here:

Whatever imaginary game Elite turns into after FDev spends all the megabucks from selling P2W arx stuff in the store on updating Elite (instead of new creative management sims or licensed IP games) will be a better Elite game, but with P2W features.

In my experience, a better game is diametrically opposed to P2W features. The latter inevitably punishes the player via gameplay, unless they’re willing to pay for the privilege of having fun.

It's not like this is would go away if the game suddenly reached that magic threshold where it's good enough to make money on it's own merits without the microtransaction stuff. This particular path can only go downhill even if the rest of the game gets better.

That sounds right to me and would jibe with what Paul said about the ARX ships not having a rebuy for the ship itself but there would be for any modules that you later put on it yourself:
You can rebuy your pre-built ships for free every time. However if you modify the ship with credit purchased modules then you would need to rebuy that cost.

we may all be "adults" "here", but in my experience that doesn't matter in the realm of online forums and in game chat. Like just look back through this own forum and theres already people pointing fingers at each other trying to paint their own narrative of why frontier is doing this, and getting mad when others dont agree. This may be a "dad" game, but it is full of players with a childs mentality.
That would be firmly THEIR problem. ;) If somebody decides to smoke my ship because I bought it using Arx, they may do so. No skin off my nose. I have just over ten billion credits in the bank. I can easily afford to lose the rebuy for a ton of new modules... and a Python 2 would be outfitted with engineered armour, MRPs, HRPs, the works. I'd not take it personally. I work as a teacher, so getting under my skin is . . . let us just say, it's about as easy as killing a rhino with a tooth pick. :D
