Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

There is (were?) nearly always some bored kiddies shooting people-up at Dav's. One time I was driving around and some person decided to have a laugh by doing a bombing run on me, dropping prox mines from their ship. Made a change from wings (OK, teams - eugh!) of people in SRVs chasing you I suppose. I wonder if there are people on foot there now taking pot-shots from the entrance gantry. LOL
I think I have had one person shooting at my ship at Dav’s years ago before they moved it he chased me off towards the central peak of the crater where I jumped out.
I have generally gone there in PG or Solo partly in the past for frame rate reasons* and generally because if there is someone else there you don’t get as much stuff per lap.

*My previous machine couldn’t cope with busy instances.

Sounds reminiscent of the Tusken Raiders shooting at the pod racers in Star Wars.

word that rhymes with 'ganker'....

Calculato..lanker..um.. not calculanker

No um

Canker sore!

I have to admit that those recent ganking reports from Buckyball racers are causing me concerns. Maybe I should switch to solo mode for the time being.

I'm probably still a pretty easy mark if I get dropped; but I do sure enjoy passive aggressively evading them. And during a race? Well it almost sounds fun but they don't play fair. Similar to I used to play Red Dead Online and you go on the horse race events good luck not getting shot! The freakin people just tryin to kill you. Dorks so stupid! Good luck outrunning this bullet at least they didn't have lasers (they might as well have lasers unfortunately the bullet weapons did not simulate projectiles or consume time to hit the target. (A "hitscan" gun faster than a laser gun!).

I'm on down the road back to Colonia but while I was in the bubble recently the player activity was weird. Several systems and especially at Shinrarta Dezra there was notable amounts of CMDRs in supercruise and at the founder's world. It was sort of insightful watching them manouvre in the hyperspace. One time there were three squares and two triangles. They're being so stupid but it's also beautiful MMO aspect that seldome seen so busy in routine systems

I took the high road and circled back to Founder's World located on the orbital plane offering starships and accessories. Where people came and went, frequently a half dozen live, while I sat there and built up a ship. On ingress and on egress, were multiple contacts but no undocked ships seen. I hastily assembled a basic beluga and received no response to joyous "Wahooo!" on the local channel either way either!

I digress. Hey you could also switch to Colonia life instead of solo mode. Catch me if you can McBuckytimber! :) It's a nicer place to get ganked anyway. Comes up time to time. The gankers are simply "a cut above", knowing they are less volume and far less newbies per million CMDRs (a ganker metric, the NBM concentration).

Sounds reminiscent of the Tusken Raiders shooting at the pod racers in Star Wars.

This one's for you, Star Wars Fans. Well I try to keep the 21st century out of things (though, daydreaming about naming my future Python2 after Willy Nelson). I defy any and all CMDRs to have a history of such good star wars joke ship names OR receive more bananas on re-enactment (image below) from critics.

RUPEE NOON
- Grandpa's Original upgrade from sidewinder to Dolphin and started our family business
THE MILLENIUM DOLPHIN (3307)
PENNY NOON
DOLPH HELMET (3310) (formerly DOLPH VADER (3309)
TIE Liner (3309)
Starfish Destroyer (tentative)

- RUPEE NOON original dolphin upgrade from sidewinder: THE MILLENIUM DOLPHIN
- PENNY NOON SAUD KRUGER VARIETY PACK:
-- Dolphin: DOLPH HELMET (formerly DOLPH VADER until ship kit tied in with spaceballs).
-- Orca: TIE Liner
And the all-new work in progress, just assembled and shipping separately following Penny to Colonia even as we speak.. Drum roll...
-- Beluga: Starfish Destroyer

Hey, take some pride in your ride and paint that thing.

It was an interesting day today... I've stumbled upon several star systems that hadn't seen a human ship before. Most of them were just that STAR systems.
But a few showed an odd quirk. After the initial honk on entry, I was informed that there were x bodies in the system. Opening the system map only revealsed some stars and asteroid belts, which were way less than x. The other bodies only showed up after I thoroughly FSSed the system.
Found a few terraformables, amongst them this beauty:

Somewhere else, while returning from a gardening tour, I noticed some F.Metallicum preparing to board my ship.

Thankfully, with the help of my genetic sampler, I was able to convince them to stay planetside.

Not far from there, I saw something falling from the sky:

In the end, I managed to find a peaceful place to put up my tent for the night:

Quick tip, when you enter a system and your HUD is blank for 5 seconds before the main star shows up, it's unexplored. Conversely, if you see stars and planets rushing towards you on the HUD, it's been explored. If you reversed direction and inadvertently went back to a system you just explored and haven't handed the data in yet, it will show everything on the HUD and system map but without an explorer's name. Can't remember the last time I had the rebuy screen twice in one day...

First was my second regulation run in the current Buckyball race. I saw the ganker as soon as I dropped out of glide at Dav's Hope and knew that was it. Moments later, it was raining Cobra parts. If they get their kicks from shooting down unarmed ships, so be it. There's a word that rhymes with 'ganker'.... 😉

Second was my own fault for being complacent 😬. Sally had landed to do a restore mission after disposing of scavs and had just started up the power plant when a second lot of scavs dropped in right on top of her ship. Turns out a Dolphin doesn't last very long against point-blank small arms fire, and neither does a G3 Maverick.

Clouds and silver linings, though - the subsequent Buckyball run (done in Solo, oddly enough) was actually better. And Sally picked up a 'grab item X from such-and-such a place' which was the very place she had just been blown up at. Arrived, found it still heaving with scavs, and a reborn Kittenfish furiously poured down fiery explosive death on the wretches. I wouldn't like to be the one who has to clean that settlement up, chunks of charred meat everywhere! And to soften the day's losses (Sally's first ever rebuy), it was positively raining Manufacturing Instructions; acquired ten in one session! Not to mention loads of tungsten carbide.

Do love the fact that even after ten plus years of playing it, ED can still chuck a curveball at you 😎
That's why i usually go in solo when flying an unarmed exploration ship.
Second part happened to me as well recently, on a low level mission that is.
The scavengers dropped so close i couldn't even make it to my srv, or make a run for it.

I am finally looking into Odyssey engineering.
So now i am trying to gather the right engineering materials to upgrade my suits and weapons, and find out which i can safely sell or trade.
E.D. Odyssey materials helper is my friend in this.
I have yet to unlock my first Odyssey engineer, so i will be making some shuttle rides the next sessions.

Interesting. Didn't notice that. But then again, if your mind is preoccupied, you miss a lot of stuff...

Congratulations on your first discoveries.

Well yours if someone doesn’t sell them first.

Joy of joys, I'm looking up for what pilot federation rupee noon's original out of gas incident occurred (when v2 was added and the death seemed significant enough to warrant). (It remained "2" for the rest of its service).

Because Rupee's first death was self destruct after researching how to get gas, and learning he had not only better not get so far from a station without some, and what a fuel scoop was. I believe that last play which contained only two events and the self-destruct, I had done some reading to get that understanding. Then I flew up to Dromi which was class G indeed, and desperately tried to imagine something besides the scoop,

Didn't go on playing either - I was and still am more of a "EXIT TO MAIN MENU" than "REBUY" in such situation haha. Then on the 23rd it looks like, about 64 hours later, I did the rebuy and changed 1 to 2. INDUBITABLY!

Now that's an interesting case: After a short tour around that Puppis dark region B, I've reached the closest inhabited system, Pencil sector EL-D5, that is quite isolated, to sell a few datas before I joint the bubble. While in here, I got... involved... in some business, that lead me to the magnificent Pilgrim's Ruin, one of the few prisons I've not visited yet in Elite.
Well, everything is as usual so far, except I was running a stricly unmodded Eagle instead of my exploration AspX. Problem is, "stricly unmodded" kinda forgot to at least put some fuel scoop on it. Now, I'm supposed to run 190 LY to join my AspX with that little 7.83 jump range Eagle, that's a 62 jumps composed only of inunhabited systems, no stations to refuel, no scoop... Sounds unhealthy...

Of course, those two systems, prison and AspX hangar, are the only ones with a bit of life, and the beautiful Pilgrim's Ruin is the sole object where she is based now, and she won't let me call another ship.

Well, I'm not that great at "calculations" (or whatever farsighted people use to call this), but this seems like a checkmate. Now, I wonder if killing myself would allow me to deploy an other ship, or maybe should I call the Fuel Rats? But the last solution feels inconvenient: I'd feel bad to impose such a painful trip as escorting a small fuel tank Eagle to them Fuel rats, or to my squadron.
I'm gonna check if there are carriers around, maybe.

I'll keep you updated for the sake of silly adventures still are kind of fun.

There's no stations around with outfitting so you can buy a fuel scoop? I know prisons don't have outfitting, or like you said maybe a carrier where you can get a fuel scoop.

That sounds like it still has all the E-rated stuff...
Fortunately for me, the carrier OCD Gnosis was at 7LY from my prison, so I could buy a scoop, and wait for the transfer of my dear AspX. That's 37 min to wait, so enough time to have a drink at the bar and listen to that album, thinking about that sentence I've heard from an ex military plane pilot: "Are you ready to live with the consequences of your lack of preparation?"
