DLC18 discussion and predictions

That's exactly where I'm at. I think both are popular here and extremely cute (highly marketable).

At a minimum, I'm imagining (obviously Frontier can do whatever they want) South America would at least get one monkey, one bird, and the popular coati; Africa would get at least one bird and the baboon; Australasia would get its tree kangaroo; Asia would get a blackbuck; North America would get its long-requested bear and a bird; and Europe would get a critter and/or a bird.
I think this would be a nice way to end things, might as well finish with every continent.
  1. Black Howler Monkey
  2. White nosed coati
  3. White faced whistling duck (teehee)
  4. Hamadryas baboon
  5. Secretary bird
  6. Tree kangaroo
  7. Blackbuck
  8. American black bear
  9. Roseate spoonbill
  10. Great white pelican
Wouldn’t be an awful way to end things off I would say. Obviously a number of things can be changed and turned around.

If we are to get up to three ungulates in the final pack which do you think are the most likely?
Im not saying anything too out of the ordinary, but I’m pretty much gonna agree with what everyone else is saying.

  1. Blackbuck seems like an obvious no brainer.
  2. Likewise the muntjac would also easily be a smash hit.
The problem is the third animal, which I actually think won’t be the musk ox. The shaggy fur on the highland cow didn’t look great, so I’m not too sure it would be the likely next animal. I’m gonna say I think it could be another deer species, so I’ll also go with the pudu.

The trio everyone wants for the Americas:
  • White tailed deer
  • Southern Pudu
  • Guanaco
I still think it’s possible we get an “Americas” pack to end things off. Last year we revisited every other continent, from New Zealand, to Northern Africa, to the islands of Indonesia, to the mountains of Asia, and to the very northern tips of Europe.

Going off this trend, that just leaves the Americas as the last continent to be revisited. A massive amount of Players are from North America, and a lot of people have been asking for South America. All we got last year was the sloth and the peccary, and going off the trend the “New World” is up next for one last revisit.

I know a “Keeper Collection” is likely, and would appeal to the most people. But I really think a general “Americas/ New World” could also be just as likely. At this point, it really comes down to what Frontier thinks should be saved for a sequel.

I'm not sure about getting 2 deer in the same pack, even less getting 2 small deer. I think it's more likely to get a smaller and a large one, or even more likely getting another African ungulate (impala, blesbok with their unique face marking, eland, kudu...)

And that's exactly why I think we could get two more packs. One focusing on America and then one last pack for Christmas to end the game with a general worldwide pack.

3 that seem super likely (though I may just be biased because they are my favorite options)
  1. Blackbuck: When I sort the 2024 metawishlist by the percentage of people that voted for an animal in their entire top fifty, the blackbuck is number 2 or 3. There is wide agreement that it ought to be in the game, and it doesn't seem too hard to implement.
  2. Markhor: Based on the top 25 wishlists, this one is about as popular as the musk ox, but it has less shaggy fur to contend with. A lot of people would like to see them.
  3. Muntjac (or other small deer): If they want to give us something different for an ungulate, a small, tropical deer would be about as different as it gets. A lot of people want the muntjac to live with the red pandas.
3 if it is Americas-focused:
  1. Musk Ox: Most popular
  2. Wapiti: gives NA and Asia a big deer
  3. Brazilian Tapir: not super hard and iconic, though I'd strongly prefer more monkeys, birds, and interesting small mammals from SA.

My preference would be blackbuck or muntjac, but not both. I really don’t want more than one to two slots taken up by a group that’s been spoiled the last few packs when monkeys and the entire class of aves are hanging on by a thread. I know I’m beating this dead horse into glue, but it just keeps coming back up.

Realistically though… who knows at this point. It’s practically guaranteed we’ll get a few. Going by popularity, musk ox and blackbuck are probably pretty likely. Maybe a markhor or an Asian deer species.

Let's liven up discussion.
You're in charge of Frontier for one day.
The boss can only allow one new scenery piece collection to be added.
What are you adding?
Originally I typed out log cabin stuff, but then I realized I need something even more. Give me a scenery piece collection for educational props. I need all of the following:
  1. Nests, for gorillas, crocodilians, beavers, bees, and birds.
  2. Wings, paws, antlers, horns, skeletons, eggs, hooves, I need some animal anatomy to hang up.
  3. Skulls. I need skulls. I want to display the bear skulls next to each other in a line. Or show off the teeth of a crocodile.
  4. Likewise, we need ivory to properly show the dangers of poaching.
I can “live” with never getting stuff for a log cabin, but the amount of pieces I would need to even replicate half this stuff would make my computer explode. So I really, really, need this stuff for my zoos. It would help our zoos look more educational, and make the not-animal part of habitats seem more alive.

Not bad I guess? Certainly some interesting animal choices. Personally I would make the following changes:
  1. Replace the elephant seal with a walrus, but if you want a pinniped from the southern hemisphere you might want a South American sea lion.
  2. I would personally replace the white tip reef shark with a species kept more frequently in captivity: the nurse shark. Especially as this species doesn’t have to constantly move to breath.
  3. Razorbills are cool, but maybe a species that would work better in Planet Zoo? Either an eider or a puffin.
  4. I would change the toebiter to a hermit crab. To be honest toebiters live in freshwater so they aren’t very coastal.
  5. I would replace the osprey with the green sea turtle. I don’t think we will get flying birds anytime soon.
@RightWhale, better? I replaced the Giant Water Bug with Walrus & Osprey with the Mandarin Duck.

Also, here's another idea. What do you think?

Oh crud I forgot to mention some other educational props:
  1. Seed pods, and just seeds in general. Would look very good in a rainforest building.
  2. Scenery for animal tracking (the good kind not poaching). Like a radio collar, maybe some maps, some other generic tools.
  3. Some “ecosystem” dioramas. Basically a placeable wall piece like the river pieces. Would show off an ecosystem and some of the animals seen in game.
I think that’s all the rest I have for now.
