The Console Profile Transfer Portal | Information

Mine had two weeks at point of Live/Legacy separation, yet still appear to be at the location if I look at the galaxy map. This may be due to not returning to that system since but nethertheless they still appear for me.

Hi there,

After transferring my account to PC, what is the best way to upgrade to Odyssey? Do I buy it in the Frontier Store via my Frontier account and then it will be available for download in the launcher?

And the alternative via Steam would be to transfer it to Steam and then buy Odyssey there?

Thanks!

Steam regularly gets discounted prices, but that seldom happens on the fdev store. You can then launch the game either from the standalone launcher or from Steam:

Or you can buy full price from fdev. There's no download, it's the same code, you're just unlocking the functionality.

I suggest you just buy it from the Frontier store. Steam has some extremely frustrating issues that occasionally pop up.

Any updates you may need after purchase can be done directly from the Frontier launcher. You won't have to directly download from the store if you've already installed the base game.

Hi, some questions :
1.- do I still get rid of my carrier to transfer from my PS4 account to PC?
2.- if I have an account under the same mail on steam, could I transfer to that account?
3.-I have the game and dlc pass, full upgrade game on PS4. Would that content that I bought transfer to the new account in PC?
4.-What would happen to my account on PS4 after I transfer the game? Disappear?erase?
5.-is there any chance they would retake console development in the future? Any hint from the developers?

I tried to read the 7 pages of the post but it get confused sometimes.

Thank you in advance and sorry to bother. Best regards

1) I think you are recommended to sell it before the transfer, then buy it back afterwards, because the carrier itself won't transfer and this way you get to move the money needed to rebuy it.
2) I think this is possible but I'm not sure what the arrangements are for it - you might be best contacting Support directly over this. Normally you'd just get a fresh account - though you could then link that account to Steam if you wanted.
3) You get a PC account without Odyssey. All PC accounts nowadays include Horizons automatically so you'd have access to all of that to start with, plus the various 4.0 changes to Horizons not on console. You'd need to buy Odyssey separately if you wanted it (but it's fairly cheap nowadays and regularly on sale on Steam)
4) It's untouched and can still be used (to e.g. buy your carrier back) but you can only do the copy once so after that point they're entirely separate accounts
5) In practical terms: no chance in the foreseeable future for PS4 or PS5. No-one including them knows what they might do if ED is still going in another ten years, of course, but they've given no hint whatsoever that it's under consideration at all.

The problem with this is, even if they did start updating the console version, they probably wouldn't work with the old code base, it's much more likely they would just port the existing Odyssey code base (or whatever it will be by then) across. To much chance for errors with trying to update an old code base that could be 5+ years out of the date by then when they have a perfectly good working version to go with. How they would handle old console account is anybodies guess.

Thank you all for your time and explanations, especially Ian, it was very helpful. Best regards
I appreciate that this is not what you asked, but in addition to the advice above, I would like to add that the account porting process itself was as smooth as silk. I was worried that I would either muck it up or that it would glitch and I would lose my billions, but I have to say it was a breeze. I bought a gaming laptop, sold my Carrier, pinged an email to FD and started the process and it worked smoothly first time. I rebought my Carrier on PC but have actually never fired up my old console account since. But engineer progress, ships, bank balance (including the Carrier refund) etc was all there waiting for me on PC. Seamless & meant I just had to rejoin my old squadron and away you go.

1) These days yes it would be best to sell the carrier first. When this was done originally I kept the carrier and used it to transfer credits between the accounts. That's no longer possible since the Live/Legacy split.
2) The portal will ask for an account to copy to; You'll need your login details and FID number from the Steam account.
3) Horizons is part of the base game now, so yes.
4) The PS4 save will still be there.
5) It sounded rather final when they made the announcement and nothing since has given any indication of a return to console.

Hi, I have one Playstation account which I have been waiting to port over, waiting until I got my second Elite status (Exploration then Trading) which I have now earned.
I have 2 Steam accounts, both with a paid copy of Elite.
1. Can I copy my PS account to both Steam accounts if I clear them first?
2. As I don't have a powerful enough PC to play on the newly cleared account, can I portal-copy today, play for another 6 months on PlayStation, then copy over again when I eventually buy a PC powerful enough to use (eg when I get a third Elite status). Has anyone tried to portal-copy more than once?
3. There are some lovely new ships you can buy direct from Frontier (new Type 8, etc). If I buy one using ARX on the Steam account(s), will the new ship purchase get wiped when I clear the PC account, or as a 'purchase' it will always be available?
4. Is there an end-date to the portal transfer? I don't want to miss out obviously, but I don't want to transfer copy too soon as that will mean I may have to stop playing until I get a powerful enough PC, which is unlikely to pass wife-approval any time soon...

Thankyou for reading...

No, one copy per account.

Also no - you can only do it once. So if you don't have the PC yet, you may as well wait a bit first.

Not sure on this one. It seems like you should be able to keep it - if you reset an account outside the transfer process, the new CMDR you create on it still has previously-bought cosmetics - but I'm not 100% sure that the process of copying your cosmetic rights from your console account wouldn't interfere with that. Something to ask Support about.

(That said, if you can't actually use the PC accounts right now, you could just hold off on buying the Type-8 anyway; by the time you do the transfer you'll probably be able to get it cheaper by buying Odyssey for that account instead)

From the post at the start of the thread:
"The portal will remain open indefinitely to allow as many Commanders to take advantage of the copy process as possible. Should the portal need to close, we will announce it in advance."
No changes announced on that since.

Thanks for your reply Ian, understood on all counts. I will give this some thought before transferring my saved game but will keep playing on Playstation for now.
I was hoping to get a transfer done now (in case the portal closes), keep playing on Playstation and then copy over again once I've got my 3rd Elite status, but its not to be...
I've already bought Odyssey on Steam in readiness... cheers

A couple of questions @Paul_Crowther
A commander recently decommissioned his FC and transferred across before the decommissioning was finished would he be able to get the credits he is missing ??
As the two galaxies are no longer bound together would it be possible for the commanders who did transfer across ( but didn't decommission their FC before transfer) take ownership of their "old FC " thats in EDO for the purposes of selling off ?
So that we could get rid of the dead FC on EDO?

Can I look at my bookmarks on Xbox after the transfer?

The Xbox account still exists, you can log into it any time you want to check stuff, but nothing you add or change will appear on the PC version, so you can look at them sure, delete them etc, whatever you want. The PC and XBOX are two different galaxies so they will each have their own set of bookmarks.

I see, thanks!

One thing that hasn't transferred is visited stars in the galaxy map and it's infuriating. Such a vital part of exploring and it's missing. Please allow us to update this with the correct data. 7500+ systems visited and I can't see them with the blue dots when filtering.
