The Buckyball Racing Club presents: Zombaland (Triple Eight Championship, Race 5)

The question about the preferred anti-zombie-weapon had me thinking...

I decided that it had to be a cricket bat.

I might use a Winchester in regulation class.

It's day 4(ish) of the race and time once again to see how things are going.

The regulation leaderboard ..

.. sees just one new entry from Tobias Von Brandt. The organiser of last years winter olympic live racing revival for the Elite Racers has unsurprisingly chosen to run Zombuur down with an SRV, a task he ought to be well qualified for (although, looking at the SRV time there, let's just hope Zombuur isn't one of those new fangled "fast" zombies! ... sorry Tobias, I couldn't resist it!). Interesting to note how that Gentle Lander bonus has really paid off for Sir Boundness there!

Over in unlimited class ..

.. there's more activity with three new submissions. First we have an improved entry from Sulu (with another 100% Gentle Lander bonus ... who are you and what have you done with Cmdr "Sledgehammer" Sulu?) who's swapped the Eagle for a Sidewinder, shaved well over a minute off their time and claimed a place on the podium. Also interesting to note that the Axe has been exchanged for (consults notes) some Val Doonican Music! :ROFLMAO: Next we have the first submission from Cmdr Raiko who "failed at everything" but was somehow still faster than their first attempt, using a cricket bat to LBW their victims (leg bone whack?).

(can someone complete this picture by bringing a spade to plant Rheenbie in the ground please?)

And finally, the unofficial biographer extraordinaire of Buckyball Racing Cmdr Leeya Geddy (aka Homborger) goes in unarmed and comes off worse for wear (although that said I'm sure Lave Radio's Colin will be delighted to see that Adder taking a beating).

I made two attempts at Unlimited tonight. I have a nasty habit of holding SCO just a fraction of a second too long, and the less said about my SRV attempts, the better. ;) Assuming I get up on time, I'll make another stab at this tomorrow morning, then submit my best run so far.

A belated "Hi!" to those on the course with me. I swear my "o7" macro has a mind of its own sometimes. :(

A narrow escape in the Lave Station bar caught on CCTV as a disguised Rheenbie engages me in conversation while Zombuur tries to sneak up behind. Luckily their evil attempts to devour my brains were foiled seconds later when a mass of revellers turned up to celebrate Lave Radio's 500th birthday. Watch your backs out there people!

And that's an Unlimited Run submission! I wasn't exactly covering myself in glory so far, but it's the best of a bad lot. ;) I have just enough time for a quick breakfast before I need to get ready for work.

edit: This is also the first race since I got VR where I'm running in 2D mode. Feels kind of weird not being able to turn my head to track my destination. o_O

Zombaland report - day #5

The regulation times now stand as follows:

PJFjFHW.png

First up is Tannis Phage (who's tossing vinyl records at the zombuurs), perhaps pausing too long to decide whether or not to toss "Be Here Now" in light of recent news, wisely skipping the SRV section given their frame rate and thereby securing a solid 7th place!

Then Martinjameson throws their whippet into the fray (not literally, that would be hideous, no, they're going with missiles), tucking neatly into 6th place behind Tobias Von Brandt. And lastly yours truly has submitted another Cobra run, mostly to include that Garden Spade we spoke about yesterday (especially after the Rheenbie's subterfuge at Lave last night).

Meanwhile unlimited now looks like this:

Again, Tannis Phage is securing that last place, this time in an Imperial Eagle and driving a 1986 Jaguar Sovereign V12.

I mean, that may be the problem. I'm sure it's a fine automobile on tarmac but no wonder they're struggling with the SRV stage if they're trying to drive that across the rough low-gravity terrain of Zomba A 1 A! Still, at least they managed to finish with a perfect Gentle Lander bonus ... except, no, wait, ARGH ... diasaster right at the finish line! Oh well, thanks to Raiko's excellent suggestion you at least get 15 seconds for your efforts! (better luck next time). A couple of places further up agent of the Empire Cmdr Inga Stephenson's Haulier Than Thou swoops in to 7th, smiting the zombies with a Holy Sword (shouldn't that be a Hauly Sword?). And finally, Sir Boundness manages to get the full Gentle Lander bonus, completing the course a solid 2 minutes faster than their previous run to climb 3 places into 2nd (Epaphus is definitely breathing down your neck tho). They chose to ask Google what the best weapon to use was and Google came back with ..

Any Blunt Object. If you have no idea what to use, pick up anything that's long enough for you to swing and strike.

Excllent advice which covers many of the weapons chosen so far (well OK, maybe not Val Doonican ... how about James Blunt?).

And that's it for today. Excllent racing everyone! We're just past the halfway mark and definitely have those zombuurs on the run!
