Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Well, I made it back to the bubble ok.

Then I made a sudden decision to join in on the Sol defense, so I dragged out my AX Challenger, which I used previously to fight around the planetary bases. I can kill Scouts with it, and it's fast enough to get away from most Thargs.

I haven't flown any combat in forever, it seems, so I was rusty as heck. But I didn't lose my cool (and didn't get blown up, either).

I managed to kill some scouts and join in on a couple of Interceptors.

I earned a few combat bonds for my efforts, and now I can say I actually participated, even if only in a small way.

The action was fast and furious, I will say. :)

Cool. (y) I want to give this a try before it all ends. Maybe not as ambitiously as this. I haven't even fought a scout so that would do. There's a least cash to be made.

I joined a large anti-xeno private group though since I don't wanna get ganked all day when I'm trying something new.

I also found it funny how every player ship I saw in Sol was a Krait II, except for one Chieftan.

Man, that was a bad time and place to try rescue missions for the first time. As I was about to reach Sol I was dragged out of witchspace and annihilated while fiddling with new fire groups (tip: do that before you jump), then on the next attempt I was interdicted for the fourth time as I was literally a second away from leaving supercruise at Galileo. Rebuy #2.

Foooortunately, I was in my shiny brand new Type 8 and I deliberately decided not to max it out for the experiment. I really just added a 5A sco drive with a little engineering. Besides spamming in some ECMs and cargo/passenger modules. Just a 1.9M rebuy.

I'll give it another try before giving surrounding systems a go. I'm just going back to Shinrarta so I can tank the ship a little. Adding a little hull and better shields might give me a chance. Though I should probably consider upgrading the thrusters so I can put more distance between me and the xeno death squads while I wait to jump. Overall, I was actually a little surprised by how maneuverable the Type 8 felt when I left the station.

It was also fortunate that I simply left the hanger in Shinrarta rather than go straight to launch. I was able to wait for a couple of NPCs to get blown up by station security for loitering. Taking that screenshot may have saved me a rubbish first rebuy.

It is but the FSS seemed to be picking it up even though I was way over to the right of the radar. I kept being duped into sliding all the way left just to realise I'd been tricked again.
It indeed created a lot of noise in the FSS.
And I mean a lot.

CMDR Passin' ain't accomplished so much of late. But he did ship in the derelict Python mkII and rename it to The Purple Fang. But now it can go back in the garage for now

It's a nice experience living in the Empire area. Futzin around in a Diamondback Scout with no fuel scoop it's really pretty livable. Especially with notoriety it's convenient to keep on passin through down the road

But at the end of the day, it's a good feeling at least that both my ships aren't both named Foghorn Leghorn anymore.

...i've been out to Colonia and beyond, 35KLY from Sol, the furthest i've been in the game - now wondering whether i should hop back towards Colonia

Life is rather fine in Colonia. If you drive back yourself I happen to have the Noon family coordinates for some NSPs in Smojai region. Never came to much good for me but there maybe oughta be some more near it. Just for fun! But staying in Colonia is also fun.

We'd have to check posts dating about two years back to find out, I guess.

I was getting the "extra signal source" like was reported here, the first I noticed at the time, the "signal 10" thread where he could only find 9,

But the FSSs got a firmware update to handle the rogue signal source better

Figured I'd to help out at Sol. I'm not a fighter, but I can shift refugees, so that's what I went for.

Hyperdicted on the way in, then interdicted twice on the flight to Galileo, meanwhile ambient HUD glitches did their best to get in my way.

The thargoid CZ right outside the station was no surprise, but didn't have any problems getting in with manual piloting and landing. Interestingly, even refugees who normally seemed to want fancier cabins can now be allocated to economy - but they will take the WHOLE cabin, so it's better to stick them in first class if possible.

Oddly, no problems when leaving the system. No dictions of any kind. At this point though, the bugs are annoying but they can't seem to catch me. Heatsink and ECM as soon as I'm in normal flight, boost like heck, keep spamming ECMs until the FSD is ready again. They got some shots in but limited damage to the tune of less than half a million credits. With the rescue ship being a single jump away, I'm not really feeling a need for anti-caustic limpets.

Hopefully this activity will remain undisturbed and non-combat pilots will be allowed to have some effect on the outcome 😸

Success! My next three clean attempts were successful and I've no worries about interdiction. Though seeing Mars High for the first time was nuts. A big three-way battle with players, Thargoids, and a station I thought was going to accidentally shred me if I got near the letterbox. Probably the most dangerous part in case something random goes wrong. Including leaving the station.

Though I also hit my OG home system Wolf 359 and was sad to learn there were no missions and many NPCs had perished.

The rewards can be hit and miss too. Maybe because because my faction rep in the area is lower than expected. Though I did just walk off with a 28M reward for one group of passengers, so that was nice.

I decided to head back to Shinrarta because their haven't been escape pod missions since the first time, so I may aswell replace all my cargo modules with passenger compartments.

42!? But that's the Answer! How could you...

I came across this system yesterday, on my gradual journey back towards the bubble... (must admit my enthusiasm for neutron-hopping my way back seems to be considerably less than the wave of exploration energy that got me out here in the first place...^)

20241206124252_1.jpg

...though i must've miscounted yesterday as i see it has "only" 41 bio-signals, in addition to two WW's - so i've scanned the most verdant moon with 8 bio types and will leave the remaining 33 for future explorers who head this way...

...and i guess i will just have to keep searching for a system with a "perfect" 42 biosigns :geek:

Here's a pic of the ringed WW anyways... :]

Back in the bubble and my curiosity was piqued. I jumped into my pre-built AX Chieftain and hopped over to Sol. Escaped a hyperdiction en route. Hah. Those icthy Goids can't catch me. So... I arrived at the birthplace of humanity.

In orbit was a Very High Intensity CZ. In we go chaps! Chocks away!

Um. My instruments aren't working. Who the hell configured these fire groups? Hyp er s ano y det ed. This isn't looking good. What was that? I'm out of here!

The true horror of my situation then dawned on me: back at my carrier, I realised I had no docking computer.

Haha yes it was an absolute hoot. Parked the carrier nearby and fought in Procyon. Did several low CZ's, aided by two other CMDRs who had the same idea, in my old Chieftain with the Guardian weapons. Was a lot of fun and very errie in the dark with a headset on a big screen. Back for more bug mayhem tonight. War is not supposed to be this much fun.

I am in too, shooting mostly scouts.
I tried my luck at interceptors, but they are a bit too much for me.

I did the rescue missions in my old but trusty Python, which can take a few hits, and is fast enough to get away.
I use the old double engineerd fsd, which boots in 2 seconds.
Never had to face rebuy so far.

Always cool to find stellar specialities & often get lost in them, shooting reams of colourful, near-psychedelic footage that i keep meaning to edit into something someday... so yep, would be welcome thanks - nice to find near-ish to Sol, either to drop in on on my way back... or for getaways when based in the bubble :)

I usually play solo these days because I just cannot be bothered with "interacting" with other people after work. I play to relax, not have some pointless (from a game perspective) and sweaty 10Gj-effective-shield slugfest flying around in circles for 20 minutes.

If there's a reason (from an in-universe perspective) to shoot someone, I'm quite happy to and have done so before on multiple occasions. I've been considering pledging to a Power for this reason - it gives a broader context to my actions in the game - but I'm not sure I even want to when I'm happy with the game as I play it now. We'll see, I suppose.
Agreed. I've played the game for over 800 hours - solo. Except for this week... I jumped into open play in the Sol and surrounding areas to fight the goids. Everyone is too busy killing aliens to bother killing me.

Yes I saw maybe 30 players last night battling the thargoids, either around the stations or in CZs. There were at least 25 Kraits, three or four of us in Chieftains (mine is my old engineered/Guardian one, was interested to see it up against the newer ones) and then, my personal favourite - a noble warrior in a combat Dolphin. It was a glorious sight, he just brought more style to proceedings than the rest of us managed.

That's a #StellarScreenshot if I ever saw one...

Yikes. So my intuition was right, once again. Glad I activated the "Brave Sir Robin" protocol early. Kept my ships out of the bukl evacuation haul and most likely some early refugees safely to Suhte.
Yes it was total carnage across a large sector of space. I had maybe a dozen pilots out there I knew so had people I could call on but it was the first time I have been actually intimidated by an Elite encounter. Loved it, although it was quite a shock seeing how widespread it all was.
"Holy Mother of Tharg. The Style Cops are here. We're doomed!" - Some Thargoids, probably, December 3310.
