The Dark Wheel hidden station

Well, it's been 10 years since the release of the game and we're nowhere closer to finding Raxxla, knowing what it is or even decipher a single line from the alleged toast from the Dark Wheel.

As a former Raxxla hunter but still active Dark Wheel enthusiast I was wondering if the plans Frontier had for Raxxla and/or the Dark Wheel have been halted, changed or never really existed? There was a time (before I actively stated playing ED) were the Dark Wheel faction in Shinrarta Dezhra would give out mysterious missions which seem related to Raxxla and could in theory bring you closer to this mystery. However seems like those missions just stopped one day, without warning or explanation, until this day. Unfortunately for me and many other we never had the chance to experience this.

While I understand that Raxxla may never be found, as it may only exist in the game as a myth and red herring, or perhaps it was hidden too well so not a single trace or clue to it has been found in over a decade, I was hoping we could still have the Dark Wheel working towards that goal with the help of Commanders. Basically I was hoping, since the release of Odyssey and onfoot gameplay, we could now finally have the Dark Wheel hidden station implemented in the game.

I think I speak for all Commanders that ever showed interest in the Dark Wheel or the Raxxla storyline, that we would love the ability to get an invitation to the REAL Dark Wheel (not the minor faction wihch does nothing) and be able to visit the hidden station and walk inside it to see the artifacts mentioned on the Dark Wheel article on the Codex. Since that entry was added to the Codex it has been the assumption/hope of all Raxxla hunters that we would eventually get an invite to the Dark Wheel and be able to visit their hidden station. However this never happened and seems clear by now that no such station exists ingame.

I think the work FDev been doing for the past year has been really good and shows the company is working on Elite and plans to work on it for sometime, and along with all the Thargoid gameplay, new ships and SCO, Powerplay and eventually colonization, I think it would be great if we had some new features regarding exploration and the game's lore. Even if in the end all we get from the Dark Wheel are mostly dead-end leads and we never really find Raxxla, we could at least learn a bit more of lore from it, even if it's just a beacon somewhere with a text or audio giving us some info on Raxxla.

I think it's a shame we have all this potencial for exploration and treasure hunting and we barely ever use it, and it's never used for the biggest mystery of the Elite saga, Raxxla. But personally from all the things added in the last year or two, which honestly I enjoyed I think it's positive for the most part (still waiting on how colonization will work exactly), I would much rather get something related to exploration and mystery hunting and learn a bit more about the lore. I can't even imagine how many retired Elite Dangerous explorers would came running back to the game if there was news about Raxxla and/or the Dark Wheel in the game.

Anyways, just wanted to give my feedback and a suggestion for the game, I really hope Elite can go back to it's old days, the game certainly has been improving in the recent years post Odyssey (botched) release, and advancing the Raxxla/Dark Wheel storyline in some way would go a long way to make all of us Raxxla hunters, explorers and treasure hunters the happiest Commanders on the Milky Way. Or you know, just give us Raxxla and we'll love you for all eternity. :)

I would love that, hidden station, maybe a permit unlock of some kind, bits and pieces of lore, some stories, something to explore, a few puzzles maybe, even if only for another dead end, still progress for myths and legends in the game. I'd been waiting for that since release - got Allied with Dark Wheel asap and then there was nothing and still is.

It would be especially nice, as right now it looks like the story-line would go into the future with current events. If at the same time we had another storyline that goes into the past - Dark Wheel would be perfect for that.

I don't think they have the tools to do a good job of telling this story. No NPCs to talk to that do anything except the absolute basics. Can't even talk to NPCs in ships. No investigative tools. Not even any mission layouts that are about investigating something. It's literally just one pea in a silo of peas, with no info to work with.

Got a half-baked space conquest game though. 🤷‍♂️

Personally, I think 10 years is long enough. Either bring out Raxxla and let it be part of the major story themes moving forward or let it remain a mystery that's irrelevant to the big events planned for ED.

I've been to Raxxla, when I was a noob and I was playing on my iMac when the game still supported Apple. It was by mistake, I was scanning a system, doing the way I learned it from Hawkes Gaming YT video, since I didn't know how to scan systems yet I use to fly toward planetary bodies to scan them and as I got closer to the gas giant the the name changed to a strange sounding name(possibly Greek or African), and below it the faction said Dark Wheel and Raxxla was an installation. It was real ominous, warning message came onto my hud and they gave me 10 minutes to leave the system or be destroyed, so I did not thinking twice(saving my data). Later, after reading ED lore I realized I was there, at Raxxla. I've been trying to retrace my steps for the past 7 years but failed. Either they moved the system in game, or they moved Raxxla somewhere else. I did a road to riches starting from LHS 3447 in a hauler with a max jump range of 9LY. I think I did 70 or more systems before I hit Raxxla. I do remember Capricorni systems in the vicinity. Its within close proximity of the bubble. This story is true. Maybe one day after retracing my steps I find it again.
here is the road to riches link: https://edtools.cc/expl.php?s=lhs+3447&d=400&n=700&ap=on

I had a hauler with the same outfittings and I will attempt it again. Last time the Thargoids blocked the way. So, I couldn't continue
the ship had 9 ly jump, but I averaged 6-7ly remember this was at the beginning and I had no money.

dude, we can form a group and conduct an actual exploration, use what I said a a clue, or we can have ridicule. Your statement wasn't funny, but insulting. Why would I post this knowing I would receive comments like yours. I don't want any credit, but I'd like to see an expedition with dozens of explorers working together. We'd find it in one day, a few hours of work. CARPET SCANNING SYSTEMS locally starting from LHS 3447.

10 years and we still haven't.
Yes my post was meant to be funny and not insulting, anyone can make a claim they have found it (been done before), we currently have a number of mass system scanning's ongoing at the moment.
What did the installation look like? My first thought would be to hit the screenshot button and damn the rebuys.
If you seriously want to organise a search and get folks involved we are going to need a lot more info.

So here is a little tin-foil for you lot. The Titans and the Thargoids seemed to be searching for something. Something so important that they sacrificed their Titan assets. Think about that for a second, they might not think the same as us, but either they are dumb beasts, or something was worth the cost. When the Maelstroms first landed we got a the M&M clue, ... Which could mean anything a numerous amount of things, but the general consensus folks had was the the Thargoids were triangulating on something.

Now let's take a step back for a moment and break the 4th wall. We know ED is based on previous games and the original book that the Thargoids had an on foot element. Which has been wholly absent despite in game structures containing an element to it that Thargoid interceptors or scavengers can't really navigate or interact with. Thargoid structures, has the starmap room, and the link room. The Spires have the pad and the refinement station. We know from the new and OFFICIALLY canon book lore that there is an on foot presence. We know from an early on picture taken in FDEV's work spaces that there was drawings of insect looking things and then there is the yamiks leaked picture as well that there is an on foot Thargoid element. But we have yet to see them in game. Could there be some developmental hindrances for FDEV to implement these, most likely yes. But they would still need an excuse on why that element was not used when they invaded. My initial thoughts as all this was developing was that the Titans were looking for a human captured queen or princess in which they could recover their species from their conflict with some other element (most likely a separate faction).

Now as I am re-reading And Here the Wheel, there is a line that when the Thargoids first had human contact, that they were interested in finding Soontil.

Soontil was rumored to be Thargoid in origin, but then some Xeno-chemist said it wasn't. Yet it was older than 10,000 years. Which the guardians got destroyed 2 million years ago. So the technology might belong to a third species. Either way, whatever Soontil's link might be what the Thargoids were looking for, and Soontil may or may not be linked to the Dark Wheel in soooo .... This whole Thargoid invasion may be the "clue" or the hint everyone has been wanting.

There have been plenty of people claiming they had been to Raxxla, none of them proved to be right. I wish we would get leads like that from the actual game, would be fun to follow them. But I guess it can still be fun if people decide to believe you, or are just looking for an excuse to look. Technically even if you're making this up it can still lead to finding Raxxla by accident. :p

When did this happen? When did you see Raxxla?

There's already plenty of people looking for Raxxla, scanning every single system and body up to 200ly of Sol. Would be helpful if you provided additional help, anything you may remember from that system (number of stars and bodies, type of star, anything about the system's name or the distance from Sol.

Yes, the Thargoids were definately trying to triangulate something, perhaps it was our main homeworld to try and wipe us out? Or maybe it was something else, if it has anything to do with Raxxla it's certainly taking it's time to unfold. But that picture from the Titans and the humans did remind me of Raxxla in a way. Some theorize we haven't found Raxxla yet because FDev is waiting for the storyline to reach that point, particularly the Thargoid storyline. But who knows, Raxxla is supposed to be in the game since the beginning right?

FDev did base ED in previous Elite games, but the lore isn't exactly the same. There's alot from the previous games that is different or isn't in Elite Dangerous, except as text in tourist beacons. Thargoid on foot is something people speculated for a while, many expected we would receive this with Odyssey and the Thargoid invasion. The invasion is now over and no signs of on foot little aliens, we didn't even get Thargoid human "zombies" as many feared with the captured human pods. Is FDev waiting to release that part? I highly doubt it, but who knows, we might still get it later on.

Careful with getting information from novels, even the official ones. According to one of the writers, Drew Wagar, they were never given any information on Raxxla or The Dark Wheel, so anything they might have written on that is not necessarily cannon. There's plenty of stuff in the novels that isn't in the game. So take it with a pinch of salt. Soontill in MY opinion is just a throwback to previous Elite games, like many other locations in ED, not something we can visit. I mean, you can visit the system, but not the planet, which was scorched anyways and we can't land on it.

Set destination to Raxxla. ENGAGE! :alien:
