DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

In general, when we get new versions similar to base game animals it really sheds light on how far we've come and how obsolete the base game models are. Some examples:
  1. Leopard-Jaguar-Tiger
  2. Wisent-Bison
  3. Dromedary-bactrian
  4. Wild ass-zebra
  5. Malayan tapir - bairds tapir
  6. Coyote-wolf
  7. Baboon-mandrill
  8. Striped hyena-spotted hyena

Don't forget the flamingo's. It seemed the greater flamingo was always seen as one of the better Basegame designs but when the American Flamingo came out like a complete banger it was clear that it has shortcomings now.

On the topic of clone carnivorans i think the harbour seal doesnt get brought up enough. Its kinda THE seal and also way more common than the grey. And while being like half the size i think it would be different enought in comparrisson to it
I would love a harbor seal, it’s a very common pinniped in captivity. Also small zoos (what I build) are way more likely to have harbor seals.

Any other suids > Warthog
Caimans / alligator > Saltie / gharial
Sloth / sun /spectacled bear > Polar bear > Both brown bears

I don't think we'll ever get remakes of the base game animals (perhaps in PZ2) because of marketing reasons. People paid for the versions that were in the trailers etc. Just changing them might lead to backlash. Other players might love the base game lion / zebra / crocodile and would not like them to be changed

The more I think about it, the more likely the Asiatic lion becomes. It's not a remake, but a better alternative for the base game lion.

FY25 financial update just dropped. Nothing major for us, but Frontier had significant revenue and profit growth with 77% of total revenue coming from PC, PZ, and JWE! PC2 seems to be doing okay, PZ revenue grew 2%, and the JWE franchise had 96% sustain.

It's cool seeing that PZ revenue is still growing. But it's also important to note that much of that, at this point, is driven by console and once they catch up with the console DLC its pretty likely we see a dip.

Nothing on any new content for PC2 or PZ was referenced, though it may have come up in the presentation. Only new content highlighted in the report is JWE3 (which makes sense, because the hype on that one is is strong) though they do mention they have an "exciting roadmap of future games and content" but that could mean anything.

For me its the opposite ironically. I cant/dont want to go outside much during summer time, so for me thats actually the ideal time to get something where i can sink alot of time in
Oh man, yes. Right now it's 9:20 in the morning and it's already 81° Farenheit (27° Celsius). And to top it off, it's humid so it feels worse.
Summer is my least favorite time of year and I'm super grumpy and gripe a lot about the weather

Good to hear Frontier is doing better, I was worried there for a while, because I really enjoy their games, would be a shame if they had to close down.

Not to side track too much, but now I’m back in the states I’m so excited for the “ber months” and the holidays. For the past two years I have missed Halloween, Thanksgiving, and half of the Christmas season. I really missed the fall and the colder weather.

Now to get the conversation back on track. Honestly PZ having 2% growth is very surprising, like you said it’s probably due to console but that’s amazing.

Oh man, i really envy you guys. It's currently aproaching mid day here and is only 16° C, so i just don't have the will to do anything.

I really dislike winter aswell, the only good thing to do is sleep with this time, lol.

Yes, they're definitely doing better! Of course, part of this was also them selling the rights to one of the Foundry games, but still... PC2 did okay, PZ continues to perform, and JWE sustained well still. Will be real curious to see what happens when they start to release PC2 DLC and to see how JWE3 does.

Of course, the downside to those two would be that I really think once that starts to happen? That's when PZ DLC stops. Right now PZ is the only game they have to provide revenue via new DLC and I'm convinced that's why we're getting a summer DLC. Q2 for Frontier is June through August. There's nothing slated for PC2 yet and JWE3 doesn't release until Q3. They have to fill the gap somehow... And at some point in the fall they'll probably be dropping the last console DLC bundle too.

Once PC2 and JWE3 are offering DLC? I really do imagine they just pivot to those and let PZ sit on the shelf and collect revenue. The sustain rates on these games are pretty solid. So at a certain point letting the game sit and sell units without further development is an incredibly profitable move (and it could arguably be more profitable to end development and just let the game sell units over time).

In a sense, it makes sense. I'm sure the console base is still growing significantly. And they've had 2 x DLC released for that at least once per quarter. Plus you have the Zookeeper and Americas packs in there for PC. What's left for PC is the Americas pack and whatever is coming next....

My guess is they'll use that pack to fill the fall slot for PZ DLC (part of why this new pack is coming next, maybe?)

Nah trust me you dont envy me 😂 . Developed some kind of medical condition in the last 2ish years that causes me to sweat at like extreme levels. In spring, fall and winter its "just" annyoning and little embarrassing. But at summertime i basicly cant leave the house or within minutes i look like i just stepped out of the shower lol

I have it. It's called "heat intolerance"🤣

Lemme put it this way: last year we had a sudden snowfall, which is rare here. I was outside in shorts and barefoot. That's how much I hate the heat
