New ship: Panther Clipper

I do expect better, which is why I don't want a bandaid mega hauler to gloss over the actual issue, and make it so it can be tolerably ignored. If your begging for the band-aid, you're the one who needs to expect better.
This thread is to discuss the Panther Clipper, not colonization fixes. Do you want me to go off-topic? Them's against the rules. I'm not begging for a band-aid, the MINUTE they announced the Panther Clipper 2.0, it was clear to at least me that the bandaid was all we were getting.

Panther clipper has been "coming soon TM" for years. Go be vocal in the appropriate threads about the issues in your preferred features. Ships being sold for early access for arx that are band-aids to other game issues is not something we should want, or advocate for.

If you ask me, the panther clipper should've had just over 1000t hauling with a shield. That would've been reasonable and in line with the general progression curve we've seen in cargo capacity increases among hauling/multirole ships.

I find it curious how nobody seemed to complain when the Type-8 "only" increased the maximum cargo hauling capacity of medium ships by 38% (compared to the then-biggest medium ship), but now that the Panther Clipper has a cargo capacity 56% bigger than the current-biggest ship in the entire game, it "falls short".

Falls short of what? Unrealistic expectations? Well, that I can agree with.
smacks forehead

Because the Type-8 was released well before Colonization. We never NEEDED to haul more, especially not a medium ship.

Please Google "paradigm shift" if you can't figure out why suddenly now we've been complaining about ships not hauling enough....

That's been suggested a gillion times by people. Like I said, you act like you haven't seen the feedback. Also how do I snap my fingers and "fix" Colonization? Please share.
'Fixing' a feature about hauling lots and lots of stuff via bigger trolleys masks the problem. As I said before, make the general game (i.e. the flying and what happens during flight) fun and all that A / B / B / A becomes less Hole in Your Soul and more Money Money Money.

In short, rather than using larger ships to skip the process, the journey to the reward should be actually fun (but its not). This is a widespread ED issue, PP2 has it as well.

Yes and there's been a LOT of feedback about colonization ignoring all other professions and focusing on JUST hauling. However that fell on deaf ears so the last hope was that the PC MKII would alleviate the pain of endless of hours of A>B>A hauling.
you are giving the answer to yourself (not that it was already given by many players in the forum): The cargo size of the PC does not play a role - it is the game play:
The limitation of the PC's cargo size makes sense, albeit it could be also 1500 or 1600 but anything larger breaks the coherence of the game. No matter how ED is classified as being an MMO, a sim, a space opera - it has to be grounded in its own (pre-defined) logic and cohesion or it becomes random and frustrating as we can all see with certain movie franchises (hi, 'Terminator Dark Fate", hello 'Romulus'). I haven't heard of many retcons which were well-received by fans.

Going the route of fulfilling the wish of an uber-ship leads to a small size ship which has 10 huge hardpoints, 5000 t cargo, massive powerplants and a jump capability of 10000ly etc. What would everybody fly? Yes, exactly that unicorn and nothing else. Would that be a better game play? I leave that to you to judge.

That's irrelevant to this topic. If FDEV magically fixes the game play, great. I cannot hope for that and I have no way to affect changes in that department. This thread is about discussing the Panther Clipper which in my opinion is far too conservative for the current state of the game. Not the magical one that you and others are telling me I should shut up and wait for.

If you don't want to play the colonization mini-game, then don't. If you don't want to buy the new ship, then don't. It's that simple.

Why are we even talking about colonization? This thread is about a new ship.

Can you provide in-game lore to explain the (pre-defined) logic & cohesion?

Quite serious as I don't recall anything in the game description that states, quite categorically, that only incremental advances are possible - nor in the CODEX, so where is it described?

If I have missed it somewhere, I'd like to read about it.

I can play this game too though. If you don't want big cargo haulers, don't. If you don't like ships for ARX, don't. If you don't want ships that can haul2-5k tons, don't. It's that simple.

Now do you want to have a discussion or just say pointless things?

I know right? It's like they have a world-view they've forced on all of us for the game, and demand we live by it. Again, they don't even explain WHY a big cargo ship would be such a problem. It just "is", trust us bro. Because of umm CG's, or "reasons".

Logic and cohesion??? What is even meant by that...it's just a platitude with no foundation.

This is just dishonest lmao.

Should Fdev add a ship with 4 huge hard points, that flies 700m/s, had big shields, strong hull, good jump range, tons of power, etc etc?

You've basically just described the original Panther Clipper despite the hyperbole. So much for "logic and cohesion" when in literally the same universe as Elite Dangerous the Panther Clipper was bar-none the best option for nearly every activity in the game.

Such a ship should have the speed and maneuverability of the Cobra Mk V, the cargo hauling capacity of four Panther Clippers, a jump range (when fully laden) twice that of an unladen Mandalay, twenty utility slots, 4 huge hard points and 8 big ones, a class 10 power distributor, and a hull that makes a fully engineered Corvette look like made of paper in comparison.

You didn't answer the question. Should we get a ship that has the most firepower, speed, tankiness, jump range, power, etc, be added to the game we have today?

Because the question was stupid, because nobody is doing that. You're being hyperbolic. NOBODY is asking for that here. It just needed to haul more.

You're trying to illustrate absurdity with absurdity, but the problem is I'm not being absurd. My expectations are completely reasonable and well articulated and pretending I'm asking for Lord Vader's personal Star Destroyer in a World War II game is a waste of all of our time.
