Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Regarding hot weather gaming...

I have one of those Dalek-type portable aircon units (refrigerant, not water evaporation type) which I have to use to keep my room temp below 25°C (ish) on hot days ('cos of health condition). Gaming with ED or similar is just silly in those situations so I have been spending gaming-time in Sailaway
* which doesn't spin-up my GFX card fans.

* During which I have even toyed with the idea of having a desk fan blowing in my face and using a spray-bottle to squirt salt water at me from time to time. ;)

At least I'm sweating naturally, it's when you can't sweat is the dangerous / critical situation. 🤔...48 or 50 degrees for any length of time would see me off this mortal coil I should think!
Strangely enough I watched a documentary about skin yesterday, animals and humans...interesting...how we all get rid of heat. Anyhow, I digress again...

Oh yeah there's a cave in South America where the temp is nearly 50c and the humidity is 100%, they have to wear special suits to go in there because if you don't you just die in minutes from heat exhaustion, dry heat is usually survivable for quite a while, once the humidity starts approaching high figures it's a death trap!

:D...I assume you mean this?...

I'm just docked at a station (Havalokul) to pick up some commodities (for a planet based station) and again stacking up some trade missions, (whilst browsing the forums).

Jack :)

The weather here just broke and rain has fallen. A few rumbles of thunder. The oppressive humidity has lifted which is a complete blessing. And this does mean I'll be able get some quality game time in so... hooray for everything \o/
I'm always frightened of having the gaming PC on when there are thunderstorms. The uninterruptible power supply is all very well but what if a lightning flash comes straight down the wire and fries everything...

Broiled to death!

The Naica Cave, or Cave of Crystals. apparently it's located over a magma intrusions, ok, the second reason not to visit it, I've watched The Core!

Think I'll just do a quick GCZ then plan another exploration trip. The question is, carrier or no carrier?

The other question is, shall I mod my Mandalay to some more D rated modules for greater jump range?

I'll see how I feel in about 25 mins :D

Make that 30 - Windows updated.
Go with the carrier then your explorer ship just needs 50-60Ly range to give a convenient 10 or so jumps between carrier waypoints.

Fan blowing in the face is fine, I have a spare laptop stand with fans in that I use to move the air about, salt water spray being blown around near the computer is possibly not a good idea.
Besides it will just add to the humidity.

Add anti surge sockets, or plug something more valuable in parallel with the PC to protect it.

Decided to leave the Mandalay loadout as is. I was fiddling in Coriolis (albeit not going at it particularly in detail) and I could have got up to 78 LY jumps... so I thought I'd do a hybrid journey taking my carrier half way to where I choose to go, then the ships the rest of the way.

According to some old bookmarks, there's still a bit of mileage to be gotten out of exploration of some fairly near destinations.

Observation...
'Wanted Commanders'...I've noticed at one of my built stations (Coriolis) there's some new headings in the station menus that give info about Commanders with a price on their heads, and where last seen in the galaxy (I've seen this in the past at other stations so I'm familiar with it btw.)
Have any of you ever taken this information on board and actively sought them out?...I've thought about it, but never tried playing the game in that way, at least not yet ...:sneaky:...Hmm, I wonder if it would be 'interesting' gameplay to be able to hire npc 'professional assassins' to seek these pilots out? ...or at least get them to accompany you to achieve this task in trying to claim the bounty...might be interesting. Though the price in credits to hire them should be pretty high, depending on assassin notoriety, or 'class'.

Okay, time to trade!
Jack :)
Wow, never seen that.
I was wanted, notorious level 5 recently while trying to do Power Kills.
It took a long time to work that off.
Must have shot the wrong ships.

I'm so very sorry about your dog, that must've been heart breaking., but that wasn't recently was it?...I've previously mentioned we've had 3 dogs, but after saying good bye to the last one I couldn't go through that emotional trauma again...so we're dog less now
It was 3 years ago I think. It's a sad moment to remember.

My wife and I love dogs, though, and it would be hard to go dogless. The pain of loss for each one that died remains in my heart always, though.

We currently have 3 -- a Corgi, a Pug and a Yorkie.

PS I just turned 74 myself. So we're the same age :p

But we're straying off-topic here. So before the mods get upset, here's a screenshot of my first big payout from Aisling Duval powerplay. I was ranked 318th last week, apparently. :D

I was jokingly alluding to the fact that I was playing a sailing simulator - so the breeze and the spray from the waves as I adjust the trim of the sails ...

How do you clean Marmite on toast breadcrumbs from out of a Thrustmaster joystick throttle control, the swivel base and base buttons, including a Logitech G19 keyboard? 🙃
Ah, ok, I'm kinda joking! 😅...but I keep tea, coffee and drink well away from the computer desks, I have a worktop / cupboards directly behind me so it's just a case of swivelling around on my chair to slurp any liquids when playing Elite.

Add anti surge sockets, or plug something more valuable in parallel with the PC to protect it.

I don't know whether it makes any considerable safety improvements but I've got a multi socket switched surge protector (with usb outlets) extension from the main socket affixed onto a wall above a computer table that has both my computers on, (separate from the main computer desk), which are then plugged into this, then another surge multi socket that's plugged into another mains socket which has the speakers power and keyboard power sockets plugged into that, along with the monitor power and modem power. It was just so's all the cabling could be laid out more neatly, (and to stop my wife from dislodging cables from the computer whilst hoovering ;)..which she'd done frequently in the past )
It also made it easier to select which computer I use for gaming or generally other stuff, and the comp. table is motorized for hight adjustment. I can also switch off or unplug the peripherals and computers easily without having to bend down.

As for thunderstorms...if they're fairly close I switch them all off bar the modem, not worth the risk. We've had some power cuts this year that have been various durations, from a split second to maybe 30 min - 1 hour. I haven't had any problems with any computer hardware power surge faults as yet...(🙏).

Awww!....The picture just makes me want to sit on that sofa and give 'em a fuss! 🤗...thanks for posting it up. :)

Wow, never seen that.

Oh! 😲...right...Well the wanted commanders lists are usually at most / some stations, I'm not sure if it just records those commanders passing through (Local) the system / station you're reading those bounty lists from, or some other reason.
I'm at Fidalgo Dock in the Havalokul System at the moment, but there's no wanted Commanders listed there presently. Just arrived here from the Ch'ingsonde System, same there no Commanders with bounty's
A few minutes later...I'm now at my new 'Home' system (Hip 90024 / Wild Deer Corporation Headquarters), and bringing up the Local News off the Main Noticeboard, scrolling down I get to...

Top Five Interstellar Bounty's

1. CMDR *****
Last reported location
TCHE MAINI
Total Bounty 1995000

2. CMDR ** **********
Last reported location
HIP 34961
Total bounty 1682000

3. etc etc.

It lists 5 Cmdr.'s, and the full details are similar as above, (although I've blanked out their names as I don't want to appear as shaming and naming players on this forum!...though it's all 'legal' in the game obviously 🤷‍♂️).
There's the clue to their last whereabouts, sometimes as the above example shows it lists a system and sometimes a space station as well.
Mind you, you could be on a wild goose chase as if you physically go to that system you probably have to find some more clues as to their next port of call. You might find them straightaway, but there's probably the chance they've skipped the first named position (system or station / port) and gone somewhere else.
Interesting though, and I've thought about this several times, I might try to find some of these commanders, creep up on them and shout "Gotcha!" while depressing my joystick fire button!

So, last week I was trying to unlock some engineers, and I got to Hera Tani who requires 50 Kamitra Cigars as a bribe. But when I checked I discovered that the System where these are sold was in a Terrorist Attack state, which meant that they would only supply 3 cigars at a time.

I didn't feel like doing 17 trips of 156LY so I decided to wait until the state changed.

When I checked today things were better -- 23 cigars available at a time. That would still mean 3 trips, but I decided to go ahead with it.

So I went and got my 23 cigars and headed over to Hera Tani's place, only to find that she had another requirement that I had not yet met. You gotta have at least Outsider rank in the Empire.

Despite all the work I've been doing for Aisling, gaining rank 7 in her Power, none of it was even noticed by the Empire, which I find sort of dumb. I had no rank whatsoever.

Ok, so I figured I had to do a few courier missions somewhere and get a bit of reputation. No problem, but I now had a bunch of cigars in my hold and doing missions with cargo on board is usually a pain. So I figured I'd just sell them somewhere and maybe get some merits for that. Except it turns out they are illegal in a lot of places. Sigh.

So I just ditched 'em and got on with the process. After a few courier missions I was able to rank up to Outsider, although I was annoyed when they kept giving me Naval missions that I could not accept because of my reputation. Why even have rank-up missions that the person trying to gain rank can't even take? Grr.

In the end I accomplished my goal and unlocked Hera Tani (I mostly needed her to overcharge my power plant cuz I needs more juice for what I want to do).

It's been quite a long time since I had to unlock any engineers and I had sort of forgotten what a pain it can be!

Hera Tani's base was in the dark too. Of course.

Hi :)

I have two solutions to this problem firstly no Marmite in the house secondly no Thrustmaster products attached to the laptop.

Back when I was a kid my dad would unplug the TV aerial and go down the cellar and shut off the electricity, there were only 3 sockets in the house, if it was sounding close.

The problem of course is even if you find the right station in the right mode you still need to be there at the right time and get lucky with the instance.
The last of course is supposed to be easier if you have sent them a friend request.

I'm on my way. Where are you? :D

I am a hater of this weather, I'm afraid.

Just did a GCZ and it seems my team compadres forgot how to capture checkpoints. Tch. I had to do all the hard work for them while they just spectacularly ran into enemy fire. But... it was a blast.

Arf arf.
I might be imagining things but I started to feel like entering the checkpoints and starting the process of capturing it would encourage NPC's to follow suit.
I think 'za' is South Africa? (In ]M['s user name avatar) ;)
I don't see the 'za' thing and assumed he was living in the mirror universe down under.

One of those neck fans might be handy and innexpensive. I was going to get one for a particular production job but I'm not sure that I'd like one hanging around my neck while I'm playing a game. Though it would certainly prevent me from looking like one of those black and white guys from Star Trek TOS after Fdev and Nvidia have teamed up to burn half my face off.

I've been whittling the Mandalay down over time (no weapons or wake scanner etc.) but I think I'm still on 74-75LY.

That happened to me and I thought it was a glitch in the matrix!
However it happens time and time again but talking of glitches - I thought to myself on one such occasion 'what whould my credit score be if I didn't capture any checkpoint and just shot them all'? (all 1000? -- no I'd got down to about 550 when the thought occurred)
So no flags just kill, kill, kill and the glitch I find now is that when there are only 6 enemy left - I can't find any of them - not in buildings, not in the surrounds and all my glued to the floor team-mates say is "They have to be here somewhere" well I searched and nada!
I had to recall my ship and I've no idea how much it was worth because I'd done 5 or 6 other GCZ's before that without handing in my kill bonds!

I didn't even realise what the checkpoints were for until a few matches in, but then I thought 'Am I even getting paid for this?', so I tend to only go for them when there's a slight lull in fighting or if I think there's a chance of killing some bad guys.

And obviously I'll go for them if my team is getting battered.

I forgot to mention, if you yourself have a bounty on your head in a system then I'm pretty sure your commanders name gets displayed on the local board.
I once had a bounty on my head of 500 credits, and it was displayed on that systems station menu board as local bounty's, until I paid it off if I remember correctly.:)

Hi :)

Yeah, it would be pretty hard to track them down I should think and engage with them, and as you say, in open I get the impression from reading accounts on the forum from regular open players, the instancing aspect of the game is a bit hit and miss anyway? 🤷‍♂️
Another point is that commanders with bounty's may have obtained those from strictly Solo play, so in that case a search for those commanders would perhaps be pretty pointless! :)

Hi :)
According to some old bookmarks, there's still a bit of mileage to be gotten out of exploration of some fairly near destinations.

I agree, I periodically come across systems near to the bubble (or in it) that although the main star has been discovered the systems planets (if any) haven't. Sometimes discovered systems also have no mapping done to the bodies in them, and in that case it's usual to find no first footfalls either, which could then lead to first discovery's of bio stuff.
On that note...I'm a bit bored with trade missions, Colonisation and general 'bubble area' stuff, so this morning I'm going to lighten up my carrier, grab some more Tritium, and head off into the wild blue (black in this case) yonder for a change! :D

Edit...Dammit! 😖..I forgot it was Thursday (For some reason I thought it was Friday). So I'm just departing in my Cutter from one of my planet construction ports and....'Can't connect to Frontier servers'.
It's exciting, when I can boot up the game again...will my Cutter be stopped in space?...docked at the port, or kaboom! :D
It's actually shield less at the moment

Edit.. Cutter is docked at the planetary construction site....😌
Jack :)
