When the commercial version is released I will catch.
But even so, I still want to see my ship externally.
Where are all the other players in that game? Oh.

As a side note, I'm a former pilot (no longer current). My aircraft was painted. I never saw it once flying. It could have been hello kitties for all I know and then magically returned to a Piper Saratoga paint job when I landed.
Point being, paint is for other people to see and identify you with. I do enjoy the passive aggressive idea of "I won't by a paint job unless I can see it, in space while I pew pew" dev blackmail though![]()
I bet you haven't never played elite.Look closely, they are behind him.
He just switched to external view to have an immense tactical advantage.

There is no tactical advantage.

There is no tactical advantage.
Also can be true- that's why we established very simple solution to this issue- hardpoints on - external cam off.
If you don't think 3rd person offers a tactical advantage, you are not a very good pvper. Just knowing the angle of fire and direction, even if you can't see the attacker means you know the best tactical evasion move to avoid fire. For example, multiple hostiles are attacking and you are taking fire from the rear, if its at an angle the best move would be to burn at an opposite angle, but if its directly behind you that would be suicidal. Your scanner takes time to figure out which is the hostile hitting you so you need to guess a bit.
Fair comment, but if getting into an external view takes 5 seconds during which time you have no control of your ship? And then panning speed is no faster than you could pitch (in the cockpit)? And if when you then decide to return to the cockpit to actually use your HUD, it takes 5 seconds during which time you have no control of your ship? At what point is it too costly to consider as an advantage?
So the old game had outside view.
Good to know, thanks.
