Heavy judder in RES sites - yes or no

Another Austrian OR user, habediehre! :)

Getting repeatable stutter only in RES sites.
I experienced the same issues as OP postet, in RES sites it doesn´t matter what graphic setting I chose, as soon as some other ships arrive it starts to stutter. Supercruise stutter is much improved for me in 1.07, still there somewhat thou.

I´d be interested to hear from the two people who voted that they don´t get any stutter in RES! what is your secret?

Other info :
Location: EU, Austria
OS: Windows 7 x64 (OR extended, Aero off)
CPU: Intel core I7 920 @ 3.80ghz
MEM:12gb ram @1600mhz
GPU: Zotac GTX 980 with latest drivers (347.25)
Info: Judder in RES sites, sometimes in SC

Now that I've upgraded to two 980's I only get any sort of issue entering/leaving hyperspace. Everything else has been very smooth and I'm maxed out, with manual set DSR (I can't get anything besides that to work).

Don't believe this guy!

Where in the US are the servers?

I am running a 770 and get a smooth 70 in stations, 90 in space and only judder is when entering hyperspace.

If it is network related then it would make sense why I have it with no judder

There was a thread where they were saying that running aero off seems to hurt fps too, as if you are running borderless it sets GPU to not be priority

There is also no such thing as smooth 90 with DK2.
Malic, no insult, but are you sure you use DK2 and not something else ?
If so then go back to your homework man. enable vsync, enable fullscreen (not windowed) . DK2 performs absolutely horrible without vsync or fullscreen or 75fps (not more and not less)

Its not just the DK2, but...

32Gb Ram, 8 core CPU at 3.6Ghz, HD5850, GTX970, GTX980, ADSL, FTTC, 100Mbs LAN, 1Gbs LAN, Different router, SSD, tried all get stutter - its got worse as my PC has got better. I suspect a code issue, either deadlock / resource contention, or idle time being used for something stupid. I'm on an IPv6 ISP, switched it off, no better.

Oh and 78Mbs down, 19Mbs up, 12ms ping, in UK.

right

just traveled to a 2nd RES, had frame drops into the mid 60s, however, supercruise has been all over the place, completely random frame drops with very low GPU usage, although the core clock isnt bouncing around

i can safely say it was smoother with my hd7970, it was also alot smoother before 1.07 patch imo(in supercruise) iv always had issues in the lhs 1875 RES, thats why i upgraded my GPU to 970, but the frame drops are the same, if not worse with my gtx

stick to the RES in jupiter, its butter smooth there ;)

I'm trying to get this judder thing everyone talks about. Have turned off my 3rd and 4th GPU and turned off crossfire. even when I'm around multiple NPC's in a busy area, I don't get any judder! My FPS did drop down to around 40, it must be my settings. I'll help out, I changed config files to help it too.

I wonder if the more powerful GPU's spend more idle time doing procedural generation and then the stutter occurs when copying the results, I notice my surface tablet doesn't stutter, my GTX 980 is the worst I've seen it!! Also, lowering the max work per frame seems to help a little.

The biggest frustration is the silence from FD on the issue, makes me wonder if its an inherent problem with the engine and they know its difficult to fix.

I just wish we had some feedback.

Yeah, you'd notice it, I'm talking about a second long stall when approaching planets. I'm getting close to start trying to unplug my hotas and seeing if it happens on keyboard and mouse.

Even with my 770's maxed I never got that. I'd get a little micro pause at times but never a full second, or close to it.

Yeah, its strange, how much ram do you have? All the people suffering seem to have a lot of ram and an SSD. Its gutting.

Honestly I've never had anything worse then some stutter now and then, in SC, stations or res sites. Once I got the 980's that was gone for everywhere except as I mentioned entering hypserspace.

About the only thing different with my system is that my main monitor is 120hz for Nivida 3d vision (rip), so I always keep my main monitor on.

Edit: My question would be how does the game play for you, without the rift?

I guess I can try leaving the main monitor on, do you have the max pre-rendered frames set to 1? I've been through a pretty intensive upgrade path, the only thing left to try is new Mobo and CPU. Even upgraded to fibre and swapped to gigabit LAN - my PC is highly optimised too, no firewall, no windows defender, you name it. Drives me mad, my friend has it too so its not a fault on my rig.

mobo: MSI BBII

PSU: Thermaltake 850w
GPU: 2x MSI GTX670 power edition(SLi)

I've seen this before..the audio pops and crackles gave it away. Back when I was testing Mechwarrior: Living Legends, there were many many folks have the same exact problems, albeit no oculus's in the mix. the problem boiled down to horrible resource allocation. not everyone had a problem but those of us that did, all experienced the same no matter what our system specs were. If i had to guess (cause i'm no expert) I would say that the problem lies within the ED code and not individual systems, and will be optimized soon enough. I doubt FD will leave us VR users hangin' too long as we probably make up a good portion of their customer base. With all that being said, over the past few days(ever since 1.07) I have tried every possible configuration and fix to no avail. so before you go spend MORE money on PC parts and such or go digging into uncharted programming(to most users) to fix a problem thats obviously on FD's side of things that we wait for them to streamline and optimize the game they sold us. this is in no way a "bash FD" post. this game is huge and glitches are to be expected here and there along the road to stability. I know, I wanna play now too, but them's the breaks kid :)

I do have over 24 gigs of ram total in my PC and run an ramdrive for elite.. maybe the stutter you are getting is data being pulled from the HD?

As I said it is smooth for me everywhere, and yes I have a DK2

you can have 30 fps and if it is smooth it is better then 6000 and it be jerky motions, do not confuse the two.

and wth, enable Vsync? That's likely your problem too, go check the Oculus forums, there are huge threads on why you do not do that in the rift. Remember the screen refreshes left to right as it was designed to be used in a portrait orientation

I run dual 770's

one goes to primary center screen and rift

Second goes to left and right screen in my triple screen set up

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 930 @ 2.80GHz (3985.5 MHz)
Memory: 24568 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 770/PCIe/SSE2

I am also using an older version of the nvidia drivers, the new ones halved my frame rates

I use 344.48.. newest at this time is 347.25

Are you absolutely sure you do not have your cards using adaptive power settings, have windows set to performance mode, or your BIOs settings are throttling something and you are not realizing it, or even have hard drives plugged into slower slots on the mobo?

I on my end I am sure everything is tuned to optimal performance.
Look at the youtube video.
You will see that my hardware is almost idle, it's not a hardware issue.

Something causes a heavy frame rate drop and according to that drop the hardware gets less utilized.
Like a v-sync to 55fps in my case. (vsync causes lower GPU utilization)

Reminds me of a build I did a few rigs ago with two 500gig HD's set to raid zero so I could get faster speeds. After I had a HD failure (heh) I realized I somehow had them both set to a SATA 1.0 port.....

While this is probably not something that stupid, I recall having this issue playing CS back in the dark ages (still beta) and it turned out windows was doing some weird page file thing, once I turned that off, everything was fine. I saved a few others suffering from it as well. Being my hardware is very much like others here and I don't get anything like they are talking about, I would be this is a simple hardware setting issue.

So, spent some time tooling around with my SATA configuration, managed to get a driver from AMD that was newer than the one I had (ASUS say to use the windows native one on 8.1) and I did a couple of jumps - no stutter, will try some more tonight and see if its Placebo or not.
