Beta 1.1 comments for non beta players

I do find it so funny people complaining this isn't the game they want to play. I wonder how many could code the one they did want to play...

This is the game that the creator wants and has conceptually designed for the past 30 years.. You are here to enjoy his vision. If you don't like it, there is always EvE online and Star Citizen...

Forgive us for wanting the best game Frontier can develop, especially as you can do everything the developer wants in Solo/Private Groups. Why bother with an Open at all, if it is in all ways identical to solo/groups?

I wonder why they nerfed the "seeking luxuries" trade? Gamers will simply ignore these trades now. Don't see how this is an improvement.

"Extraction zone hunting nerfed"? I don't know what this means at all. What is there to "nerf" in an extraction zone?

I think FD just think the luxury traders were spawning too much. They probably were, they were everywhere. People won't ignore them as they will still be lucrative.

The spawns are no longer infinite in RES'. People are considering it a nerf since they can't just sit in one spot and have money thrown at them.

Aah! So THAT'S how they're going to implement the modules! Aah! So THAT'S how they're going to imple

I had a rough idea of it when they brought in the seperate training missions game as a choice at start-up.

But, seeing beta 1.1, I now fully understand how they'll be introducing the expansion modules like planetary landings and FPS. They'll be seperate games all sharing the same universe, similar to the game modes. Those that just want to play the "vanilla" Elite (like me) can do that, whilst those that have bouight other modules can have their choice. I get the feeling that this beta 1.1 is also testing this function as well.

After all, we were told that these future expansions were optional. I prefer that because I don't really like FPS games. So an expansion module that has that would have to be something special for me to even consider it. The only drawback from these different expansion choices is that it spreads the players out even more thinly between them, which is the main reason I believe there should only be two game modes (open and solo). I think that's all that will be needed, really.

It could work, but there is that problem of players having less chance of meeting others even though they're all playing in the same galaxy.

I don't think they will be separate modes. Perhaps instances but not modes. If they can't make it so that the transitions are fluid and we need a menu to select them as a "mode" then they may as well not add them.

We already have that menu in the launcher, though. That's how people are choosing between 1.07 and beta 1.1. It would be nice if these different games were mixed in the same mode, but I can't see how they could do that right now.

I cant see them separating us out into separate games like that.

Think about it as different expansions come in you will have to have different choices and game galaxies for each possible combination of expansions.

I suspect we will always have one live game option and that for the most part we will all be sharing the same game galaxy, but if you dont have planetary landing there will never be an option to buy atmospheric shielding etc.

Even if they did the populations are less sparse than you think even fairly remote systems often have multiple instances running (As I well know from trying to hunt particular individuals and cycling instances to find the one they are in).

They can always frame it with some kind of ingame cover, like Pilot's Federation not having default planetary landing permissions, hence no access to planetary ship fittings. Highly doubt it'll be a Dust/EVE split game situation.

It would not make sense to put ships which can be boarded in the same instances as ships which cannot be boarded.

How would a player who has the 1st person extension wanting to board a ship of a player which does not have such an expansion be handled?

Instancing techniques.

That would be the ideal way, but well, it's FD isn't it? These are the same people that have suggested an ironman mode and a sinbin mode for griefers. So I wouldn't put it past them to go for the easier option :(

Have any of you got a chance to test the Orca out and find what uses they have given it the Beta so far?

I am on the fence about getting one just want to know if it is going to be worth my while to get one.

Thanks
It's Adder XL. Not really worth it without passenger transportation mechanic, but surprisingly fast and nimble.

Nice cockpit.

Those ships could be flagged as non-boardable ships, they could have AI handle the boarding defense with limited functionality being offered for free, they could make the FPS standard in the base game with certain functions only available with the expansion... There are many ways this could be handled.

I can't believe the moderators merged the threads! It was a totally different subject!

Try reading threads before merging them, eh?

I was wondering why I was looking at a completely different thread when I reloaded the page. Interesting.

Yeah, I came up with some of these ideas back in September, but after putting some more thought in it I believe that keeping players with the expansion in separate instances than those who do not have them as the more straightforward solution.

Agreed.

I suppose we'll have to wait and see, but I don't hold any hope that it'll be the former :(

It's "katamari damshi" merging, like they do on the Star Citizen forums, and just as annoying:rolleyes:

It is annoying, and a lot of times the topic of conversation has completely changed once a thread get 4-5 pages deep. Then your thread gets tacked on and it like showing up at a party in a Halloween costume when everyone else is dressed formally lol

Not that I've ever done that..
