For me the whole enjoyment of the past games centred around the planet landings I loved those so much. Theres nothing like picking out a base from orbit, seamlessly entering a planets atmosphere above the starport, descending watching it gradually getting nearer, and then asking for landing clearance and dropping gently onto a bay. Then sitting there watching ships take off and land around you is mesmerising. You have to experience it to appreciate it. Especially on a fantastic planet with a great view like Merlin. This game wont be fully playable for me until we get that stuff back. The rest of the game is just filler for me and never interested me that much tbh apart from the bounty hunting - that was cool.

Installed 1.2 played for 30mins still the same old, same old (still looks pretty and sounds great mind you).

Got bored, quit, fired up Battlefield 3 and spent the rest of the evening jetting around really enjoying this four year old game.

There is just no Fun Factor in ED anymore (for me), maybe in the next update.......

Thats quite sad to be honest - I logged in yesterday for 1.2, pan the debug cam for a 30 min in different locations, logged off.
It all looks like I will be back to playing Elite longer when walking around, landing on planets hits.
But the debug cam is awesome and I`m really grateful for this tool - its better than external views in some other space games. So I will be playing with that for now.

I can't remember but didn't you have to enter the atmosphere at the correct angle too? Oh and Merlin, Yes! I'd forgotton about that but as soon as you said it the picture of it came back into my mind

Me and my friends have been flying choppers in a mission I made in Arma 3 (still adding more to it). The next time they get on we'll be going out to do low level flying to spot some vehicles which means hovering a few feet off the ground, weaving through trees, down valleys, popping up to scan around before moving on to the next point. I flew this around 10 times to test it and it was a blast and looks stunning too. ED has no draw for me, even with the MP aspect (and I love MP), I just know the instancing and limited wing factor is just rubbish - does wings even guarantee my friends and I get on the same instance?

I've stopped playing for now as I don't have the time (or inclination) to spend hours/days of my life in a trade grind not I have assets of a few million and am looking at how distant the bigger ships are looking without the trade grind. Particularly if you consider the full price of an upgraded ship and the cash float needed to support the insurance costs/further trade.

I'm sure I'll be back in and out a bit as I love the place but nothing to hold me there right now as I don't want to be a virtual space trucker, I have better things to do with my life than be bored in front of a screen!

As interested in playing the current ED iteration as FD are interested in continuing that "Dying emperor and the succession wars" soap opera.
Three months past release we finally get the basic MP functional that should be there in december and two more out-of-reach grind carrots.
Some minor tweaks and fixes. Basically FD are fixing something they broke themselves. All of that is packed as a FREE UPDATE™, so we should be really grateful for that generous gift, I guess.

I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to lure my friends back into playing this game either. Especially when they ask: "What are we going to do? Is there any new stuff to do?" and the answer is "Nah, same old mob farming. But hey, there's an instance with bigger-badder mobs now!".
The verdict reads: "Might as well play Killing Floor then!".

Just logged on today, after a long break, and 1.2 seems to have sorted most of the worst bugs, and sorted the audio as well. Yes! My play time is now fluent and coherent.

Game still lacks core content, but it has become enjoyable for me again.

No time to sit here typing! See you all in space!

Unless FD up their game then the expansions will follow the same formula as the release and we'll get the bare minimum.
You'll be able to walk around in FPS but not actually do anything, it'll be fun for 30 mins and then you'll be bored again.
Same with planetary landings, it'll look cool but basically you will be just docking at another station.

I hope that I'm not correct and FD improve ED immensely before the expansions (and there's no reason they cannot, they're making the right noises so far) and release the expansions when they are actually ready for release rather than to meet an arbitrary deadline.

I play while listening to music. The game is almost secondary to just relaxing and enjoying some music. That sounds like a criticism, but it isn't. I can't sit for long and listen to music while doing nothing else, the two things compliment each other very well.

For the past few weeks I've been mainly trading and watching netflix at the same time. The tedium does not really set in then.

I started to do the whole trade while watching Netflix option then realised that I'm watching Netflix and not really playing a game anymore. I log in every few days and shoot a few wanted ships sell the credits and log off. I'm not going to grind up millions and millions to get another ship. I'm happy in my cobra. I only get a few hours a week to play so don't want to spend it watching TV doing the "grind".

Hopefully they will bring in some content similar to the x series.....oh yes I did......I said it!

Games are not made like they used to be. More and more games are starting to be released as they're being made like "Firefall", this way the player can help shape the end product. I believe ED will give us more...a lot more of what we want. Go to the shop and buy a paint job for your Cobra/Viper and help out with some fundage.

I slowed down too but I know I'm in this for the long haul... I will be playing this along with SC and NMS...been waiting too long for games like this to come back.
