Polaris ? There is a permit required. Permits are issued by humans i guess right ?

Well permit is not the term FD should use for those i think.

Could the thing work as a "permit". once you have it you can jump there? ^^

Does it always make the same sound everywhere? like if it could 'beep' more rapidely or whatever once you get closer to wherever you're supposed to go ?

Already tested the permit thing and the sounds are the same each time as far as I can tell.

Does the 'message' start again from the beginning after dumping it again? Can you just do multiple recordings. Also is the message different depending on the system you are in?

We need you to keep doing this, maybe for 10 mins to try and get the whole thing.

No, the message doesn't start from the beginning - it's different every time (thus far). Two possibilities:

1 - The message is really long
2 - It's not a message, it's algorithmic, so...
- a) It's got some meaning that's not a "message", or
- b) It's just programmatically generated and is completely meaningless

I'm going to cop a load of grief for this at home, but I'm going to spend an hour or two getting as many clean recordings of it as I can. I'll never manage to get all of it, because of the way jettisoning cargo shoots the damn thing away. However, we might be able to infer the bits in between, if indeed it is meaningful at all. Sequencing it may be difficult, so the only thing we can hope is that there's some overlap in the audio sequences.

He doesn't know anymore than you. Don't take the bait.

Exactly my point. Since he isn't actually helping anyone by not giving information - why is everyone on his coat tails?

I don't think he has any more clue than the rest of you but is having fun stringing you all along anyway.

Ok thinking of what Thargoids used to do...Interdict you in Hyperspace? Maybe keep trying hyperspace ?

I actually seem to recall that humans and Thargoids are uneasily tolerating one another as of recently in the lore, trading tech etc.

I'm not convinced this artifact is Thargoid in origin or that Thargoids are going to be the big evil baddies.

Just listened to the recording.

http://www.digitalscream.org.uk/audio/unknown_artifact_audio_long.mp3

I think that there is multiply messages in the transmission.

Message 1 = made up of the high level frequency, sounds like a interference pattern you get on radio's and is constant.

Message 2 = Is the whale like noises that sounds like a heart beat coming and going with the occasional big noise (whale sound).

Message 3 = There is a gentle computer sound like computer processing during the quiet parts.

When the unknown artefact degrades, it go's with a pop and releases a cloud of particles.

When you are looking at it, it has blurring effect that you get when you enter hyperspace.

It also gives off a visible blue spots that is part of the radiation effect that degrades your ships modules when you carry it, along with a cloud of particles.

My opinions on what it is:-

I think it is some form of alien probe (the signals) as well as a incubator for transporting some for of matter (the pop and cloud dispersal when it degrades).

I think it also sends signals out through hyperspace (the blurring effect when you look at it, being the same as when you enter and exit from hyperspace).

But this is just my opinion, maybe others will have a better one.

I am looking forward to see where this leads as I don't think it is all over with just yet.

You know if this whole thread is supposed to be about decoding this mystery then why is one of us not telling when he looks like he has the answer or part of it?

Are we all going to do the same once each one figures it out? Post a "I know what it is - have fun figuring it out guys" and then disappear off the thread? If so, that's kind of negating the point of the thread really.

No offence against TheSpaceTexan, but I stopped paying attention to what they had to say quite some pages back.
It's one thing to try and offer a tidbit or helping clue that eventually pans out. It's another thing altogether to act all sage and mysterious and not actually help at all. TSC is either trying to make out they know things when they don't actually know anything, or TSC does know something because they've been fed info from FDev making them a stooge.

All I know is that if I had a "Eureka!" moment, I'd be straight in here sharing it.

Is it just me or when it's speeded up around 12-16 times it sounds like countdown? The intervals between sounds become shorter and the pitch of the sound becomes higher as the message is goes on. Then after scooping and droping again the sond is slower and lower.

Hmm, but what if the XH is to raise the value to a power? The most reasonable seems to be a power of 2, so that gives either:
484, 25, 1444, 625
or:
1681, 676, 625, 1444

The problem is that these are four references, and our coordinates are three....hmmm.
The magnitude of these numbers feels "right" for the coordinate system though.

-- Pete.

Pete, you might want to try 2s compliment to cater for negative numbers.

Thank you for this, once we can see any repeat, we know we have something. My guess is, whatever it is, it's encrypted somehow. (Edit: Or it's in Thargoid)

Agreed, he knows nothing and is just on a giant wind up. Please ignore him and carry on with the excellent research.

The message changes every time. There is no consistency. Whoever designed the item just made it spew random noises at random intervals, its not a message guys. You are all looking too hard.

I am always open o sharing what I know, hence why as soon as I found it I posted images to make the community aware of it.

I disagree. He basically told us how to find the damn thing, without handing it on a plate and ruining the mystery. He is also one of only 5 to get one of those video cards. Why so quick to discredit? He has history with this kind of thing. It looks like a lot of jealousy to me, particularly from one individual (not you Zenith).

Anyway, I digress, I appreciate your comments and leads Texan. Please don't let others put you off. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Interesting thought, but once more, Earth/human centric. Just because the Earth axis aligns with some star doesn't mean an alien civilization would use it as a point of reference.

Thargoids had a base of some sort in Polaris in the Previous Elite game.
