warning - griefer in Sag A*

Pathetic...

It's all subjective. No one is the law in the deep black. I do not care of the consequences, I even welcome them and death! At least i will be back to civilization where i can create havoc once more!

Been having a think about this since I heard...

My inclination now, is to let him rot there, ensure that as many explorers as possible heading in that direction know to hit solo/group to avoid him, and let him suffer the indignity of travelling home on his own, or have him self destruct instead.

I would also suggest that FD need to check this guys account thoroughly in order to check for anything indicating a hack to reach the core in the first place, with a view to perma-banning if appropriate.

Finally, I'd also suggest that since losing exploration data represents the loss of days or even weeks of effort which cannot be repeated (as the systems can never be rescanned) that the approximate value of all the data (before any specific bonuses are added) be added to this guys bounty.

TBH I've been waiting for someone to start "seal clubbing" explorers for a long time, but after so long I was kind of hopeful that at least the community was mature enough to leave the people that work the hardest to avoid pvp situations out of the pvp.

Congratulations to the trigger happy commander. Not content with forcing the traders into solo and group, you've single handedly given us explorers the incentive we needed to move on too. Good luck finding targets like that in future...lol

Oh and please let FD check. I spent my far share of time travelling here. No hacks or exploits used! Once checked i would happily agree to FD posting the results. Now someone come kill me and send me back home so i can reign down havoc once more!

This sort of behaviour is unfortunate for the game. The fact that there are some idiots that force people into playing in solo or group is just a shame.

But.... it's understandable. There are some really terrible people out there and some of them use computer games to enact their vile natures as they can't be thrown in jail for it.

This needs to be implemented. How about you're able to put money aside to put a bounty on X player's head? If the kill hasn't been carried out in 24-168 hours (maybe only ticks down when player is in-game), then you get your money back. Else it goes to the player who killed the bounty. If anything, to someone off enough to be worth X amount dead can be a badge of honor, but you actually have to watch yourself while the bounty is on you.

Sounds vulnerable to how eve's bounty system worked down to two counter productive things. A badge of honor for the pirate or basically a money donation since he could jump into a cheap frig and have a mate or his alt account shoot him and cash in.
Since they are so easy to exploit bounty systems in such online games are less than useless.

I had the feeling the days of exploring unarmed will be over.

Explorers of different faction could start to kill each other.
If the CMDR that have killed you did fly to Sag A* without cheats then he have done valid game play

Lol fair enough :) I'm sure you can understand that with how maliciously your actions come across, it's not too far a leap for us to be concerned you might be the kind of player to use a cheat too. To be honest if you got there legitimately it speaks better of you from my point of view...

In any case, I wish you a really long and assault free flight. In my eyes at least it'd be fitting for you now would be an explorers death, with a long, peaceful journey home, where a couple of light years from safety, a bad jump, a lapse of concentration scooping or an aggressive npc (or an armed mob of players lol) take you out a few jumps out from selling off any data you might have accumulated.

Well done for posting the Cmdr's name on Reddit.

When I went to Sag A, I took my time and the trip took 8 weeks. I would have been livid if someone had done that to me.

Cmdr Rhodendron needs to be on everyone's kill on sight list.

1. however annoyed you may be this isn't a griefer its someone who for whatever reason has turned pirate in Sag A*
2. This sort of play should be encouraged not discouraged the game is about blazing your own trail after all and if they want to kill you in Sag A* then that's an anarchy system..
3. You knew the risks when you set off for the Core....
4. It's Called Elite Dangerous not Elite Fluffy.....
5. It was only a matter of time before this happened I was talking with other cmdrs about how this would happen soon enough
6. It now becomes a game to remove said pirate from Sag A*
7. I've always said its far too easy to go to the core anyway regardless of the fact it takes you 2/3 weeks flying time

Think of it this way it took months for people to sail to the Caribbean in the 1600's and then they get there and some git named blackbeard blew them up..... Yes they've become the most annoying pirate ever, but its nothing new..........

I must stress that i have openly invited FD to check my logs to validate my traveling. I used no hacks/exploits to reach Sag A. From going to work and gym it took me roughly 5 days in real time to reach there.

Just a couple of points ...

My inclination now, is to let him rot there, ensure that as many explorers as possible heading in that direction know to hit solo/group to avoid him

Alas not possible for Buckyballers due to Bucky being a stickler for the rules (and I'd rather face a griefer than an angry roo any day).

I would also suggest that FD need to check this guys account thoroughly in order to check for anything indicating a hack to reach the core in the first place, with a view to perma-banning if appropriate.

There's no need for a hack to get to the core, it can be done easily in a day or two if you're determined. Cheating is a very different kettle of fish to killing explorers. This guy (or gal) may be a low down dirty scumbag but there's no need to tar them with the cheat brush.

Finally, I'd also suggest that since losing exploration data represents the loss of days or even weeks of effort which cannot be repeated (as the systems can never be rescanned) that the approximate value of all the data (before any specific bonuses are added) be added to this guys bounty.

I don't know if this is true is it? As far as I know a system is only marked as "discovered" once the data is handed in.

What would be cool, and I know you probably won't like this suggestion, is if the exploration data on a ship was held in some kind of "black box" such that when a ship is destroyed this box is left drifting in space and, if scooped, transfers the exploration data to the new ship.

Nah, you're going to absolutely hate that idea aren't you, I can hear the pitchforks being sharpened from here :)

The whole system of justice in Elite: Dangerous is really off, in my opinion. I made a little memepic to make the point...

Technically no crime was committed.
Sag A*is 25000 light years from the nearest Jurisdiction and is classed as an anarchy system.

That someone would go to the effort to fly out there just to shoot people for no gain is entirely another matter of if it was an in game crime or not.

How is losing your insurance for committing murder ridiculous ?
With Murder being classed in what I suggest as only killing someone or a NPC who is not wanted and has no bounties on them.

As above technically not murder

It's not even pirating, it's murder.

I can see your point, but I can't see what in game benefits the other player would obtain.

Therefore, it's a malicious act.

of course its a malicious act, but that's the whole point of piracy its never a nice act.......

one could say parking there just before powerplay drops though stopping all that exploration data returning to the core systems.....

although probably almost certainly not the reason, it's now made exploration to the core just that little bit more dangerous.............

That's the second time you've called that murder "piracy", and the second time you were wrong.

Yes it is murder.

They went out to SagA* with an interdictor, not exactly standard explorer equipment.
That was a deliberate choice.
That makes it premeditated.
That makes it murder.

I don't understand the motivation, but I also don't get people saying he should lose insurance for murder or his bounty go up by the value of the lost data, as as far as the crime system is concerned it wasn't a crime.
Nor is it a flaw in the crime system given the distance away from civilised space the act occurred, but we have Anarchies in civilised space where shooting someone down is not a crime either.
Would I be livid if I got killed upon arrival at Sag A* you bet, I was livid when I was killed when I logged back in after a few days break and was inside an object that wasn't there when I logged out and exploded after making it half way.
But no rules were broken, no punishment is warranted, beyond any vigilante actions.

*Yawn* he has had his minute of fame on what is after all a game :)

Let's move on and forget the guy, leave him to feel great and let's get on enjoying this awesome game - That is ELITE :)

Disagree.

Pirating would require the theft of cargo.

Tell me what in game benefits the player got out of this. Clarify what he was hoping to achieve.

I don't think so. I'll be exploring unarmed in open and I'll take my chances.
Regardless of what happened at Sag A* the chances of me running into a psychopathic nut-job out here are astronomical.

Remember, Sag A* is a tourist/endurance destination now, and as a result, it's a soft target.

As I said, anarchy system, not possible to commit a crime.
Murder is an unlawful killing in game.
Otherwise killing a wanted ship is murder, killing a ship on the opposing side in a CZ is murder as they are too a deliberate choice and premeditated.
