Is E: D sponsored by any joystick constructor?

Because seriously kuddos to whoever designed interdictions that screw up your joystick after a few dozen of them.

My elite expenditures so far:

Buying the game: $60
Buying paint jobs: $30
Buying faction pins: $30
Buying cockpit/controller hardware: $1000+ and climbing... Ouch!

Clearly FDev is not getting much of what I spent on the game!
(I think FDev also single-handedly created a giant HOTAS demand spike and shortage. In a perfect would they would be getting a cut on those hardware sales :) )

I have brought to your attention that which must forever remain in shadow from my chief foe-man; my wife.

Am I the only one to have made 'sneaky' purchases?

Haha; here it is - BOOM - December 2014 (release of Elite) google searches for HOTAS spike to three higher than they've ever been, ever... :D

Hah!

ED led me to buying a copy of Windows 8.1 for my Mac, an installation drive, a TM Warthog, a TrackIR Pro, and a pair of MFG Crosswind pedals on order. The actual copy of ED was the cheapest part of it all!

It's always better to be up front about such things, I find. Both my wife and the kid refer to it as "the nerd stick".

Also worth it for her indoors taking one look at it and saying "It's... called a Thrustmaster??". That's damn right, baby.

But..but..that would take the fun out of it :D

And no way are those legit Gogle stats for HOTAs' ? Really?

Look at your in game cockpit set up - then look at a Saitek x52 / x 52 pro.

And if you couple a VR headset in to the mix, everything works out perfectly.

(I'm missing the VR, have only the normal x52)

The game is not about grinding to a next ship , live the game don't grind it

YES!!!!! hence why im doing various missions travelling federal space to get myself a ship just because it has coffee makers (you know which one). assuming the corvette will have an automated 'chef' in the wall in the cockpit (or command centre by looking at the thing) if anyone else has read up on the lore from the commodities market descriptions.

The Fed dropship is made by Core Dynamics.... Hudson seems nice and friendly with them iirc from GalNet. Perhaps Core Dynamics is to the Federation what Gutayama is to the Empire.

Core Dynamics is indeed the main supplier of the Federation Navy. They produce the Fed Dropship, the F63 Condor (commonly found as a security ship around Federal stations), the capital class Farragut, and the to-be-released Corvette.

The only difference between Core Dynamics and Gutamaya, is that there is Core Dynamics ships available for everyone to purchase regardless of allegiance : the Eagle and the Vulture.

Thrustmaster T.16000M is my new stick. I would have kept using my old Logitech Wingman, but the driver hasn't supported my model in years!

Does playing with a joystick really make that much of a difference? Is it worth buying one?

Please give me some reasons why you think playing with a joy stick is better. Even if you just think it "feels better than a mouse" that's fine too. Just give me your opinions. It would also be cool if you could give me some links on Amazon to a good joystick under $50.

Flying ships in Elite with a HOTAS, and the difference between KB/M or a gamepad is well, hard to describe. All input methods are equally valid, and everyone's preferred input controller should be (and pretty much is) equally supported.

For me though, flying Elite on KB/M is like riding a sports motorcycle with flat tyres. It will go, but you just wobble around everywhere and isn't exactly enjoyable. A HOTAS fills those tyres up, and you can zoom around everywhere and enjoy the experience :) It's simply FUN!

Of course, some KB/M players will say HOTAS setups suck because they are not precise enough or control-delay is too long, and keyboard access is badly restricted. They are absolutely right too.

As for a good joystick under $20 - urm, erm, sorry nope - no idea.

I'd join the voice of Asp Explorer and say "keyboard = flat feeling". I played Frontier/FFE on keyboard and never quite got used to it. It was like telling someone remotely which way to go.

Careful with them cheap joysticks too, you get what you pay for.

:D S

This is probably your best bet - it's not under $20, but it is very good value. Quite a few of us use that 'stick, including myself.
