I'm afraid those green, seemingly bioluminescent planets will drive most of us mad 
I have stored my Cobra for an Asp now. The jump range got a bit low, with all the extra wieght from the SRV.
I have setteld on a search area near Taurus Dark region, in the UA shell.
I have two objectives.
1) Search POIs for anything Barnacle related (I hope we will be able to find eggs or mini barnacles in the shell soon).
2) Collect materials for SRV level 3 synt. When I have the materials, I will synt. them with an UA in the SRV hold. The hope is that it will stop the UA damaging the SRV.
This could point towards a cure for stations.
This should keep me ocupied for a few weeks.
I have a hope that 2) will be successful. This is good thinking CMDR o7
I have searched (minimum 8 hours with ua and also without) 2 different shell systems. This weekend i am working on the 3rd system.
Dont know system names but they are +/- Z axis from maia ~140ly. One also140ly range between Maia and 64 arietis.

Based on nothing at all: has anyone headed an equal distance from Sol as fhe Pleides but in the OPPOSITE direction?
Maybe we are at the center of a big, Alien bubble?

Just had some thoughts :
1: the meta alloys could be actually a component used in large barnacles ( just like metal in ships ) or UA ( I think some already proposed the UA sooo ... )
2: where we find the barnacles we find the alloys
3 : struggling to find these 2 reminds me when the wings trailer came and only few people found UAs and their rarity ( maybe we are in that kinda period right now )
4 : if meta alloys are organic they might be modern thargoids technology to prevent the virus story and the genocide happening to them again
5 : we are sitting ducks until we have a clue where to look for them

serious question: when did you guys decide that the ua is pointing towards merope? i am in hr 1639, an ua is right in front of me, i am perfeclty aligned behind it and its NOT pointing to merope. maia aint it either.

I already proposed a few thousands posts back in this post. I calculated the position of a theoretical mirror shell which, if it existed, would have been centered around HIP 77177, and headed over there. Did a lot of exploring and dropping into almost every signal I could find, and probably all the SSS signals I run across. Didn't find anything except pirate traps, wrecks and medical convoys. No UAs.
Barely made it back in one piece to the bubble for repairs in my little Diamondback Explorer, but at least I upped my explorer rank.
Have you picked it up and dropped it from your Cargo? I believe that is what causes them to align.
If not then you just have a bugged one. Yours might not point there but every single one tested prior to now has done. It's also possible yours is point somewhere else for a reason, but that would be the first time it has ever been reported as such.
I've read in a previous post that sometimes the UA appears glitched, and if you gently nudge it with your ship it realigns itself towards Merope. So I'd try that.
If you find that's not the case with a particular UA it would be really useful if you could record it, or at least take a screengrab where you have targeted Merope, you position yourself so the UA is between your ship and Merope, and we can clearly see that the UA is not pointing at the Merope HUD target.

It's always a network issue.
Nudge the UA or better: scoop it, and reload the instance.
It will point to Merope.
EDIT: A question, what's the distance between HR 1639 and Merope?

yup. it was a bugged one.
A few pages back, I posted a video of me finding one of these crashed nav beacons... 5000ly away from our bubble in the Crescent Nebula.
There's another nebula in the opposite direction almost the same distance from sol as the plejades. Im on phone now and can't check the name. I took a UA there in 1.4 and there was nothing new to report the aetifact was still pointing backwards to merope
perhaps we should return to our roots (the UA's). we know where to find those. perhaps we should see if anything has changed in their behavior since the patch. anyone bothered to let the new ships be scanned by one? everyones off searching for the proverbial needle in a haystack. the odds of anyone finding anything without any information is astronomically slim. i feel like its a huge waste of time.

Finally found an AI relic (off a pirate that jumped me in a wreck site that then started hemorrhaging canisters after I punched a few holes in his hull with cannon fire) but before I could bring it in another pirate interdicted me into a brown dwarf and between the star and the FAs drilling me with startlingly precise railgun fire I didn't exactly get it to Bond hub like I'd been trying to.

I'm currently convinced that the things that will lead to more discoveries, in the order I believe they will be given (regardless of time) are;
- If Palin is left alone to his lab in Maia B, he will eventually reveal something of interest regarding UAs and/or Merope.
- Barnacles will be found at POIs. Shooting them, like when we shoot mining nodes, will give us Meta-Alloys. The more meta-alloys handed in, the more the 'story' on them will progress.
I do think we can circumvent either of these by simply stumbling across the answers but I reckon these are the lynch pins that we can at least work on/from with some safety that knowledge WILL come from effort poured into them.

I know this might seem silly, but it's happened to me and I had to smack myself, so.. just in case.. did you check that the module was powered? I completely forgot deactivating a bunch of modules in the SRV to conserve fuel. I went on to scan rock after rock and forgot I had deactivated the scanner.
