I can only really second the original Poster. A lot has been Promised and absolutely not deliverd.

Then again FD is catching up with some of that Vision. Just a shame they all charge us extra to be part of it.

I do agree with you here I think the networking element of the game is a complex beast and I worried for a time they wouldn't master it. Pleased to see it get much better and form a functional part of the game.
Yes, things were looking pretty grim back in Alpha when people had to hack python scripts or update router firmware just to connect to the game :D

Broken anaconda: In game:

Woooow!!! Nice one Dipso!!! Lovely pics!!!:)

I'm verry sorry Bambi but, with all the respect to the work you have put into your post, this leaves you without any more credibility in my very own eyes.

This is for me personally the whole beauty of the galaxy I'm living my alter-ego's live in, that it takes awfull amount of time to learn and get to know about every single gameplay aspect detail (as those amazing Anacondas' damage models), while other gameplay mechanics are being implemented constantly time after time, patch after patch. For me personally exactly this results in a living, breathing, alter-universe, that takes real-life years to get familiar with. And just when you think you know everything about your favorite alter-life, there is new season going live, living you all alone among the stars again, needing you to learn all this new stuff about how to survive and succeed in this vast galaxy all over again...

How one can not like the amazing computer game that develops itself over years, pushing you constantly to chase the rabbit in your everlasting path to glory and fame out there, in the vast darkness?:)))

Chill pliz OP. Relax, enjoy your most unique adventures in here and I promise you, in time you'll notice how complex the universe around you is and how much you havent experienced yet. You will lose attraction towards some gameplay mechanics to be seen at some point, enjoying and getting deeper and deeper into this rabbit's hole you have explored a tiny bits of so far, I'm sensing... Open your eyes and your heart Commander. The rest will come to you when you wont be expecting this at all...:))

And... Ehem..., yes..., been visiting Frankfurt @ Germany today and had awfull amounts of yards of Hefe Weisenbier tonight, so excuse my blablaabing;)))))

Cheers Commanders!!!:)

Aah the DDF. The main reason I bought into buying PB without realising that some of it was all hot air and unlikely to be implemented, or so subtle nobody can see it. A shame really, but despite it all, I love ED to bits. :)

Actually those close ups do look impressive :) Yet I've never been that fussed about the damage models, be nice to have them for all ships, but I do understand from a resource perspective why we won't likely see them. Development on gameplay areas would be a much better use of time and effort.

"Looking at all the high quality games we at Frontier have produced, from RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 to Kinectimals to LostWinds to Disneyland Adventures, I think the risk of non-delivery is small. We already have a large team who are very experienced at delivering complicated projects, and the key high-risk components (like networking) are already in place. If necessary then we will delay the release beyond March 2014, but I do not believe we will need to do so."

I think Frontier's problem was that half way through KS funding campaign, they realised it was not going to meet the target. And as backers discovered afterwards, that would have been a double catastrophe because the company was secretly planning a stockmarket float on the back of the KS project. So they started piling on promised features that they could never hope to deliver for the money. The real problem then was that they didn't have the guts to admit to backers that they were going be unable to deliver the promised game.

I don't know, from the standpoint of a business person it'd be incredibly stupid to do that intentionally. Of course it wouldn't be the first time someone tried something so brazen.

Really, I think they had some unexperienced staff on board that said "We can absolutely do that" without the realization of how hard it actually is to do what they are trying to do. It shows because now a year later things are finally being implemented properly in a way I'd say shows personal growth in their development team. Truthfully the previous projects they've completed were nowhere near as complex as Elite: Dangerous and it shows.

They are, however, following a perfect example of iterative design and development that will create a long term and stable game. If they continue with this model of release structure I'd be very happy.

I'd very much like to play the game described in the dev diaries, and especially the DDF. After all, that information is what sold me on the project back in closed beta days.

I remember... I learned how to forward 'stuff' through ports because my home setup is my land-lord's office network to my home router and THAT was a nightmare, but I learned how routers work (though I've promptly forgotten again) so thanks ED for demystifying the whole 'magic internet' thing for me which until then was just 'play'.

Re: Cosmos. I getcha buddy, we go on the attack when we think something's wrong and we defend Frontier when we think the attacker is wrong, we're neither haters nor White Knights. We don't even agree with each other all the time... or most of it.

How, exactly? It honestly looks more like they're doing the exact same thing over again, promise a lot for Horizons, but underdeliver on release. Is there a good indication they would start to finish things now? I guess we'll just have to see.

Ignoring the fact that half the points totally ignore the whined about mechanics presence in the game, lets revisit this in a few years. Not the full 10, how about 3? <removed unnecessary comment>

They delivered exactly what they said, over and over and over and over, until my ears bled. Planetary landing, some POIs and SRVs. How many times did they need to emphasis "season of expansions, not all coming at once" for it to drill itself in?

So how come they are having to give refunds to Horizons buyers who own Macs, or PCs on which Horizons fails to work properly?
