TLDR : don't feed trolls.
Yeah, thats easy for you to say, with your functioning frontal lobe!
TLDR : don't feed trolls.
but the game is buggy and boring I know it's hard to accept but that's just the reality....that just goes to show I spend more time on these forums than actually playing the game.
The only 'grind' is the one you impose upon yourself!
Wider is deeper .. if you can mix up what you do.
Example again; this week I'm in a civil war .. next week I might go mining, week after that some exploring, after that a CG, after that some piracy in powerplay, after that rares trading, after that bounty hunting, after that some missions, after that BASE jumping in SRV .. ?
I do not care for the 10 year plan ... That simply sets the stall out for what to expect in the future.
I care what they have produced today.
In those 2 years what we have is shallow and boring (to me).
Very repetitive, very unrewarding, but stunning to look at and freakingly good to listen to.
YMMV.
Indeed, honestly its probably better for the 2 "sides" to ignore each other at this point, Those who are happy with ED and those who want to call for change just don't agree and they're not going to convince each other that they're right, it would be nice if they could leave each other to discuss their position among like minded individuals but what are the chances of that happening![]()
Go on just about any game forum and you'll have people moaning about every little thing to do with the game.
I quite enjoy those threads because it makes it easier to find people to add to my mute list.
With NMS's near infinite universe what makes you think you'll ever see other players and have PvP action? Most of the action seems to come from security drones mysteriously already everywhere - we know vritually nothing about outfitting/combat/piracy/etc in NMS
All I've seen are statements that it's primarily single player but you can choose to enter an arena mode.
I get the rest, but is it?Just look at how much the ED galaxy is nothing like our own - most of it is just made up or missing.
Without going into what I would normally explain as an "Educated long winded rant about how much I disagree; and why you are misleading the discussion" , I just point out a relate-able scenario. ( It's probably going to be long winded )
Blizzard had a "10 year plan" for Diablo 3 when It was being developed and released.
They gutted the game during its first beta.
The playerbase was filled with "negative forum posts"
"It's okay guys, it's just the early stages of the game"
They backpedaled...hard. 2 solid years of realizing you don't design a game to be finished in 10 years, let alone 2 years.
All the points made about what the company would or wouldn't do to the game, they "humbly" folded their cards.
As of now, the game has gone in the "righter" direction, putting more emphasis on what the players "need" and want, over profit margins.
That being said, they are still a corporation, and have enough ego to fill a small US state; so the game and development is still plagued with repeated mistakes.
It's also filled with the same "have" and "have not" forum posts, including from the company itself, because it's starting to edge back into thinking it knows best....that 10 year plan coming to fruition.
There is an abundance of players who feel "appreciative" for what they have now, and also fearful that it could be taken away on a whim if Blizzard gets mad.
These are the types of folks that diminish progress / fairness, and allow for repeated mistakes in development. They forget that even game companies work for us, not the other way around, just like consumerism in the real world. One should not tread lightly in fear of retaliation, nor should they praise whatever is laid before them as if it is a rare commodity.
One does not have to be "cheery" to enjoy something, but one must have been dreary to know if it is enjoyable.

On the topic of the quoted text above itself and its intent, I would suggest that people refrain from presuming that the game is just "going to get better" as the year goes by; or that it's going to take 8 more years before we can appreciate the scope and depth of what is in store of the game. That's a classic "long con" and/or risky investment / excuse. It's why investors don't call themselves Bond Buyers. It's also misleading to say that at any point we are "just paying for the base game", or that there has been "a few bugs". If the game needs 10 years for it to be 'adequate" enough for criticism ...then we are most certainly paying the lion's share of this deal; and those that keep forking over money every year are needlessly throwing money into the wind. To that extent, their business model and ethics are held to question, and the whole premise unravels.
Let's just call like it is. A game that's asking for your money year on end, still "in development", and requesting that you excuse everything until its done in the next 8 years.
Personally, I'm still waiting for last years "season" of the game to finally get finished. But that's naive, because they moved on to Horizons. So in my case, and others, the game is actually never going to complete. As is the cliche way of game development; and testimony to their business plan.
From their website:
"8 Comm Array missions involving dogfighting and EVA, 8 Research missions involving protecting civilians or recovering lost data and 1 Exploration mission of an abandoned station."
Go place, shoot stuff, go out and scan thing. Go place shoot stuff that's shooting at other stuff, scan thing. Go place, scan thing?
The SC admirants confuse me. We have more mission types than that in Elite and they combine most of those elements and many more. For every SC mission with a story hanging off it Elite has a huge story arc with missions hanging off it. Your actions influence a huge BGS spanning thousands of systems and a story that spans a galaxy, not one section called the Coil. But because the story isn't centred around you the mountain Will Not come to Mohammed and that is a stumbling block for a lot of people
There's nothing wrong with the game. I have some small issues with the graphics, but the game is solid. The problem is that people want something that the game was not intended to provide - i.e., a story, with handholding throughout. .
Actually there's a huge number of them - everyone wanting to find amazing things themselves all the time or saying there's nothing to do when they've barely been on a single explore and they don't even know about the other plots and stories to investigate. It's there, so their complaint about content is not lack of it but that it's not turning up at their doorYou should be embarrassed for even attempting to use this absolute nonsense of an argument around here. Find one person asking for hand holding or a story? Did you not even read any of the, literally, 1000's of post pointing out the massive flaws in this "game". Shame on you.
I couldnt agree more. It seems most want a linear scripted story line, go here and there etc. Thank goodness this game is not like that. That it is so unbelievably open and infinite as you say. A story would not allow this space simulator, (which is what it is, not a game), to be what it is.
Everytime I make a negative post about this company and about this game I get people who like the game and the company, hell even people who simply disagree with my statments and spread their postivity on my posts. EVERY TIME.
