Had a blast last night. I reset the save game for 2.1. Last night I got a viper, went to a low res site and cleaned up... Ran out of fuel on the way to collect the bounties, that's been the only 'bad' thing to happen in game.

My frustration towards certain screen layouts though is getting close to needing a rant thread...

Glad to see you having a blast;)

Back in your days elite had a sortable list,
now we have windows 8 for tablets outfitting? :)

My experience?
I got the game shortly before the big patch. I had a good time doing some trading and slowly moving up to slightly larger ships, doing more trading. Yes I got interdicted sometimes, but I could usually get away. Good times.
After the patch, however... I had to change the setup of my ship. Bigger shield, shield booster ect. to even have a chance of getting away. And I feel I get interdicted a heck of a lot more. Not fun to me anymore.
Trading got a lot harder for me.

TL;DR: Trading was fun before patch. Not fun anymore. Considering leaving (at least for a while).

Holy crap.AA masochism, big peepies and boasting.
waaaaauuuuuw.
I shouldve added a bunch of emojies
Shouldve worded it more sympathatic.

goodday sir welcome to my blocklist
my response is... the stuff about boasting wasnt directed at you. however i have seen a lot of it on these threads. but since i am on your blocklist you will not see this post and thus be taking something personally that i should have made clearer was aimed more generally.

(this is the reason i try not to post when i am irritated also)

i voted too hard because that made it 25 each for too easy and too hard.

also because what i really wanted to vote for was 'none of the above but not quite there - needs balancing in different areas and interdictions'

Got the tier 5 Engineer FSD unlocked last night.

I haven't voted in this third iteration of the poll yet (is there really any point too anyway?), but will after getting the mod I'm after as it will involve a few more aspects of gameplay, provided this poll is still relevant by then.

Cheers.

Not sure if that is the right location to post this, but the AI interdictions got a little ridiculous... Whenever i leave the asteroid ring i mine in for the Rise of Power CGs, an Elite FAS, FGS, FDL or Anaconda appears and wants my cargo... The same is true for every second Anarchy system i fly through on my way back to the CG system or to an Engineer (where i drop off my other mined stuff)... The first times it was funny and kind of a challenge (i survived all encounters, even the one with that crazy and overpowered Elite FAS before the latest patch), but after a while this gets just boring and becomes predicatable (which makes surviving not easier..., but that is not my point)..., and this "mechanic" now really lowers my willingness to play...
I don't mind being interdicted every once in a while, but PLEASE with varying difficulty levels and NOT every time i leave a certain place or have a certain amount of cargo!

i agree with this. it does get monotonous especially when the npcs are all higher rank no mix of ranks.

And so the moaning of nerfing of the AI continues, and will continue until it's 2.1 again.

Welcome to the internet sweetheart.

It's pathetic how Frontier has begun caving in and ignoring the other half that voted "just right" and "too easy" as if the opinions of MMORPG grinders should take precedent over ours (who want the game to actually be a game and not a mindless trading cargo sim). Actually, before the latest nerf, the vast majority of voters agreed that it was "just right" in the second poll. Now we have reports of a stealth nerf that crippled the AI to such a degree that it's back to shooting fish. I'm sure you're happy that you can now trade in peace for god knows what reason (like why even play the game if that's all you do?) or "clean up" RES sites like you're a master Jedi.

Whatever else comes you gotta admit that's one nicely balanced poll result just now - if i was a developer I'd be chuffed.

I'm too young to die! (Waaay too easy) 4.65%
Hey' not too rough (Too easy) 20.16%
Hurt me plenty (About right) 47.29%
Ultra-Voilence (Too hard) 20.16%
Nightmare! (Waaay too hard) 7.75%

Now we have it: FD has achieved the mission impossible and got whiners now from every nook and corner. Bravo! :p

Forgive us for "whining" about a game that provides no challenge. I'm sorry if I don't find the joy in trading garbage from one system to the next without any threat. Our "whining" was partially answered in 2.1, and now it appears that Sarah has stripped that away from us.

Yeah, the FAS and Gunship, even the Dropship, are stupid tough now. Taking down the shields is no problem, getting through the pure diamond hull is another thing entirely. And I feel like the AI gets distributors that we don't get. They can keep firing seemingly forever. Not a huge complaint, since the old AI was too easy, but it does get a little frustrating sometimes. Meh, still better than the old AI. You could almost sleep through that.

I modded my distributor with a level one upgrade and i can boost all day long. :)

Didn't they supposed to have changed the spawn rates for Elite Ships to be less often? My combat rank is just competent, but the past 15+ ships in a row have all been Elite ranked Anacondas and similar ships. I had fewer Elite ships before the "nerf".

Oh I'm sorry. I didn't realise that the "Play your way" on the games homepage meant your way.
My playstyles isn't as valid as yours. Got it. Sorry 'bout that. Carry on.

That's not the main point. The majority of people in the last poll were against any AI nerfs, and it appears we were given one anyway (and you guys are STILL complaining).

But yeah, I can't fathom why anyone would find it "fun" to trade without any real threats. It's mind boggling. Back when I smuggled/traded, I ran without shields in a slow, weaponless ship and would always resist any interdiction attempt just so that my increased cool down time would insure that I would have to think hard to survive. That was where the fun came from. The NPCs intercepting you. Not watching my credit counter go up or altering the BGS. In fact, it would depress me if I did a bunch of smuggling missions in a row without getting interdicted.

The problem I had was that I was so used to the 2.0 AI i was flippant with regards to my wanted status, choice of ship and loadout and where I chose to fly and what I was carrying. The way the AI flies is a huge improvement, but the changes go beyond that, the response of security is better, the attraction of bounty hunters to wanted players, actions of pirates, and many other aspects have all improved. It is not so much that I have had to improve my flying, it is that I have had to improve the way I play the game. Res sites and conflict zones are playable if you go in the right ship, indeed it is a joy to watch the AI ships slugging it out with each other whilst I sit there recharging my shields. If you get interdicted in a cutter full of high value cargo whilst passing a through an anarchy the the elite FDL pirate that interdicts you will have a field day, and unless you choose to submit quickly and boost you've had it. If you are wanted you'd better be in a good combat ship or a fast ship.

The problem I found was that the changes were too much at once, from my point of view it would have been better to phase in the changes over a number of updates. I consider myself a casual player, maybe not in terms of hours played, but in that I want to fly the ship, not have to study which route to take from a to b, or grind to get a fleet of A rated ships, and although I love the game I seriously considered calling it a day, in fact, were it not for the fact I have just got into BGS work for a player group I probably would have.

What will fix the issues?
1. I'd like to see another option for planning routes, as well as fastest and economical there needs to be a 'safest' option or two which avoids low security systems, or just sticks to high security or at least gives some kind of warning if there is a low security system on the route.
2. The transaction panel on the target panel needs fixing, this has been my biggest cause of trouble in the early days of the upgrade. Before it didn't matter that much if I was wanted in a system, now it does, I need to know and can't be relying on memory. Might also be useful to have dormant bounty notifications when entering a system, or a warning when engaging the FSD to jump to a system where there is an outstanding bounty.
3. The rewards for pretty much every action in the game need to rise to reflect the increased difficulty. I've never been much of a grinder, but the level was probably just about right before, but there are increased costs involved now due to the increased risk and the rewards need to reflect that.
4. I'm not even going to get into powerplay, suffice to say it definitely needs fixing now.
There are probably many other ways to counter the changes to the AI which might help, but I can only speak as to my own style of game play.

I don't see the issue as being 'is the AI to good?' as much as the problems caused by the unintended consequences of the AI being better. (maybe not unintended, but definitely consequences.) I don't think nerfing the AI is the solution, because frankly I see it as a bit of a programming masterpiece, but it has undoubtedly cause problems for some if not most players and some ways to counter it is going to be necessary.
PS for anyone who finds the AI too easy, man up and take a trade cutter full of gold into an anarchy a few times and 'enjoy' the elite FDLs.
