The Star Citizen Thread v5

Using multiple studios is only useful if you allow these studios to have their own internal hierarchy and management, with frequent progress reports flowing from the local producer to main producer/CEO.
If you have to book flights to be present at the studios every other week or month to keep things afloat then you either have trust issues or there's something fundamentally wrong with your process management.

This, completely this ^^^^^

I can answer that. First two studios were in the US. Third studio opened in UK as the government has a program in place to provide subsidies to game developers, it makes good financial sense to house the majority of staff in the UK because of this. Forth studio opened in Frankfurt to secure the talent of the ex-CryTek guys (no need for people to relocate). I won't argue the pros and cons of one dev location vs four; I just wanted to let people know the reasoning behind multiple studios.

Was talking with someone about this a couple years ago who works for Activision. The having multiple studios from the get go was a running joke around their water cooler. The reason being is they had tried using multiple studios around the world on projects before and it never ended well. So much so they stopped doing it for the most part. Sometimes they may sub certain segments, especially things like cutscenes, to other studios, but they pretty much have 1 studio working on 1 title anymore.

this came up in recommended videos for star citizen:

theres been a lot of articles this week about star citizen:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...-update-makes-it-a-bit-harder-to-get-a-refund
http://gameranx.com/updates/id/6071...service-changes-makes-it-difficult-to-refund/

Maybe Cig should issue somekind of statement. Or fix its TOS so its more customer friendly.
The TOS is worst i have seen in my live. Not even EA tries to force this kind of stuff to consumer.

Also this week ATV showed us progress ... with clothing pipeline, dragonfly got white boxed fast so expect another sale soon. and maybe a pirate station for pirates. It seems that they are building shops there now.[wacko]

Also congratulations Monk you were featured in atv's intro
The explosions of star citizen seems to be as great as UE4 explosions :)

Finally media picking up the NEWS....

even if they make sure to "soften" TOS changes and usual delays at least they inform the public about it.....

So why are they at 10 FPS? :D

Fidelity: real explosions disorient you, so it's only right that the game runs terribly when one happens

edit: except CIG screwed up once more by making the game run at 10fps the whole time, of course

If COD is likely this year, then unless they are super confident that their product can go toe to toe, on all fronts, then I really think RSI might be better off avoiding launching too close to CoD, and pushing it out to 2017.

Better to disappoint and hear the moaning, rather than having your game marked poorly in comparison to the opposition and the future funding evaporate.

Of course,.if they have the product, then they've no need to worry.

Youre probably right. Problem is, this will now be a reason that Citizens will give for any further delay of a release date. "Oh, they decided to postpone it because they don't want to compete directly with CoD!" And not because, say, CIG is demonstrably incompetent at meeting dates they themselves have set.

Real explosions don't disorient you at 10 FPS of fidelity :D Of course I have no experience of real explosions in space, or big close up real explosions that really hurt people. Outside firing old ordnance (which don't explode at 10 FPS), my only other real experience with explosions are the teeny little ones that nobody ever sees - in perforation - that go straight through steel, mud, and about six feet of solid rock.

They certainly do not happen at 10 FPS either.

I'm finally getting something out of the money I put into Star Citizen, and it's this thread. It's a wonderful topic to visit and look at while I'm playing other games that actually work while delivering on most of their promises and while bored en route to waypoints or in level flight to the other side of the lines, and it serves great <very dark and depressing> comedy as to where my money went. I hate the fact I have complete buyers remorse over this but at least I'm getting a very small, tiny, absolutely terrible return in a few laughs at how bad it has turned out.

But, at least I can laugh.

So, thank you all for commiserating with me - and especially the Major Tom videos!

don't bring your logic and experience here
it's not fidelitous enough

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm starting to think that maybe Star Citizen might not follow through on all of its promises.

But Chris Roberts is a great designer except for that terrible movie, known breach of contract, and dubious involvement in the more successful WC games!

He's the Father of Space Soap or something, too! Forget the fact that he just nicked Larry Holland's game and stapled some bad writing to it.

Is he honestly being presented as the father of space games? Pete Cooke and John Hollis may like a word ;)

Lets not mention Jez San ;)

Battlehawks: 1942, Their Finest Hour and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe were some amazing games for their time. Rose colored glasses and all, but I played the expletive out of those games years after they were released (early - '93/94 to mid '90s). SWOTL is the reason for my interest and love in the He-162 and Ho-229.

Dunno barcode, according to their last ToS, whatever they give you is all they promised. Anything else you might think is purely your own misunderstanding of the "process".

Silly Asp. It's immershion! In high stress situations everything slows down. It's cinematic! You have no vision! No grasp of fidelity!

Exacty, what movement is he meant to be a part of?

*NeutralModeOn*

When you have cultist acting fanboy people then you have the oppsite too. Blind cultist hating people. It is very fun to watch how the one side tries to play out the other without noticing that they allready both became what they basicly fear. I dont see any difference between both sides anymore. Most funny part is that they really belive they could persuade the other side :D So they keep fighting and pushing each other more and more without noticing how childish they act. A good evidance that you deal hear with the blind hate cultist is that you can see how they jump on every tiny detail cig give out to spread fear and hate. And when you say something against that they try to put you in one of these steroetyp groups and say that their side is the best side and you belong to an evil corperation/cult whatever.

I already see my health insurance coverage increasing because some people need a heart surgery by all these negative feelings they built up on themself^^. But if people want to spend their entire day with that stuff i wish you them a lot of fun with that. Iam now going enjoying the good weather outside.

Heartily agree. I'm pretty skeptical CIG can get this game out, on the other hand I'm not going to bash them over every little thing, on the gripping hand I just want more good space games.

It's cloudy where I am. :(
