Do you think the SC Booth at Gamescom will show anything "new"? Do you think they will have any kind of product which can stand robustly against the kind of single player campaign that COD:IW appears to be offering?
Thanks for these questions. Gamescom booth to show anything new? Probably some planetary landing and more FPS footage, perhaps work for a next system + some flyable ships.
Product to stand robustly against COD:IW? They're 2 different type of games. COD = mostly FPS and their target audience likes FPS. The ship/dogfighting you see in the trailer will most likely be kept at a minimum of gametime and the game seems - like most COD games - on rails.
That's not always bad, I like myself a good no brainer shooter like COD (or BF) and the single player campaigns always keep me entertained for quite a few hours. But to compare those 2? All they have in common is an FPS bit and the space-theme. but since word about SQ42 is kept so low-key, I'm not sure what to expect and am less hyped about that bit right now.
What are your thoughts on a 2017 release date for SC MVP? If you backed SC in 2012, are you content that the game development appears to be getting further away from a release and not closer to it?
2017 MP? Only if they fix the netcode and get decent LOD networking in. Right now it doesn't matter what kind of hardware you have and based on server you're lucky to hit a solid/steady 20 fps. They however acknowledge this and are working on it. No clue if they'll make 2017 but atleast careers, jobs, ships etc should be fleshed out by then.
Am I content about the current state of affairs? Yes, and no. I want SC to be good, I really do. A half- space game that's been in development for 5+ years is nothing I look forward to. A proper one that is in development for 7 years is long, but better than any rushed attempt if they're trying to do it now. The dream that Chris pitches is unreal and probably unrealistic at that, but if they deliver 20-50% of that and it works, hell yea I want that!
Do you like the flight model? What are your thoughts on the deal with Saitek for the SC-branded controller?
Flight model isn't that bad (read it's getting better than it used to be but) but the gimbals / fixed for mouse + keyboard is an absolute disaster. There is no real incentive to play with a HOTAS or HOSAS right now because you just get outaimed by people with a mouse. It's something I hate and hence I joined parity that wants to fix this.
I own a X55, which I like. But i'm well aware about the quality issues of mad-catz / saitek. I think it's a fine go-to stick if they keep the price at decent levels. Would I have loved thrustmaster more? Hell yes.
What are your opinions on refunds and the 2.4 ToS revision? Do you think any money given to CiG was a donation, or does it fall under pre-order and therefore refunds are fair and reasonable?
Lots to talk about without getting sidetracked by a few video blooper reels or name-checking people who have started posting here recently
With mindless rambling and scaremongering by people who have a podium, it's quite normal to revision the TOS to stop getting hit by lawsuits. I wish they didn't, since it does send a bit of a mixed message, but I can understand it from another point of view. Do I see my money as a donation? Hell no, I want a product. If they go bankrupt, I'll definately try to get it back.
But right now I'm fine with them having my money, and I backed because I believe. I bought ships because I want this to succeed and the entertainment it's already giving me is more than most games I pay 50 bucks for and never play again.
