As long as there is no magical 3rd person view, I can live with it.

This.

The only reason why I would want an external view is:

1) Look at the pretty ships and the work FD has done.

2) Make cool videos.

I wouldn't mind if you couldn't really control your ship in "External View"

I so wish I had a wonderful "magical 3rd person view". Sod emersion ... I find the cockpit view claustrophobic, annoying and even nausea-inducing - especially with it moving around all the time, frequently covering up important indicators. And I want to see my ship dammit!

It seems strange to hanker after realism and emersion in certain aspects when huge swathes of the game are so patently unrealistic (and the *game* all the better for it).

My wish is that FD introduce a 3rd person view if only in single-player mode (avoiding the arguments about unequal playing fields blah blah ... which for some reason don't seem to apply to only some people being able to use/afford better controllers )

I hope that in the future we will have the external view, but also the rear view. For planetary landings, (and takeoffs), it is essential, inescapable

An external view will be lovely for planetary landings/takeoffs :) And certainly make the takeoff experience more "entertaining" than just staring at a sky while flying up!

Yes, and a rear view also. The one who knew FE2, keeps a excellent memories

I guess the worry about a rear view, is once again how it affects game (combat) mechanics?

ie: An external view can be nerfed in certain ways (namely with a delay in/out) of it. Can a rear view?

It must be difficult to do in multiplayer. Perhaps the external view and rear view could be reserved only to watch the scenery outside fights ? In FE2, I really liked see the police, go out in number of the space station with the aim to sue me. And also look at the towns move away in my rearview mirror

Having now finally played the beta, I want an external view even more. I don't even know how my ships looks like! I have all that time flying around but am unable to admire the scenery, and when in dock I don't want to waste time, and also don't have a nice backdrop. Also it does feel claustrophobic, maybe people like that feeling but I don't like it.

The anaconda video shows exactly what is cool about it and why you would want it! It would almost be false advertising not to include it now ;) Thanks for the quote from sandro in the alpha forum btw!

Well rear view I have no problem with. With adding of crew I don't mind rear turrets and before people get nick picking. Let look at Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. If we look at the Cobra Just by the looks of the Cockpit. They would be about the same size Plus Elite and Elite Plus had rear Turrets.

The extra Cockpit can have it own console with the rear view in it.

and I was right when the floodgates open more people would be asking for it, DEMANDING it. I feel vindicated.

and so long as it has zero impact on multiplayer in combat I dont have a problem with it. Neither do many on this thread.
Given your position has always been all seeing view at all times, inc in battle I am not sure why you feel so vindicated?

Do you think that is what FD are going to give us? if so I think a lot of the original backers will be mighty disappointed, if not then your "I win" attitude seems misplaced.

Please let's not turn this into argument - Especially as in truth we're still somewhat in the dark about what we're getting.

I am slightly changing my opinion about an 'external view'.
I am feeling pretty confused.

What i know for sure is that pilots absolutely they needs a rearview window or something like that.
