Yet here you are, instead of playing Braben dream [rolleyes]
And before you ask, I'm hiding @ Covalex waiting for my mate to pick me up. ;)

Since you didn't ask I'm waiting for my shields to come back up before I drop back into the combat zone, my experimental fuel powered rail guns are really effective but heats a problem I need to learn to time my shots better. My other favorite times for posting on the forums are traveling long distance to an unscanned world, fuel scooping with a small fuel scoop and waiting for my limpets to grab the loot.

Better than cowering behind a noodle machine.

Sound's like a blast tbh, too bad I can't do it with the wife, she won't let me otherwise.

Well word on the streets is that EA offered +250$millions to Chris for Star Citizen, but that's just rumours from bars filled with journalists, nobody cares about that, much less in this forum. Rumours? Nah. ;)

Interesting rumour. One of the intrigues to me would be did that 250 include "buying the debt" of the 118M potential pool? Trying to buy out one of the most talked about ToS in recent gaming history would be enough to give a contract lawyer the heebee geebees... in my non learned opinion

Commando, what the heck are you talking about?

For starters, IF EA were making such a deal and journos had any wind of it, then it would be plastered all over the major gaming press publications and websites in a heartbeat. Even a hint of a rumour about such a thing would be headline news in the game scene.

So please, stop trying to pass off your latest ramble as some sort of "insider info".

It isn't.

Try harder to not make yourself look even more silly ok?

*Edit*

And besides, I thought that CIG had more than enough money to make Star Citizen and Squadron 42 already. Why would they need a further $250 million? Wouldn't that just push the delivery time of either project even *further* back into the distance?

Look what I'm really trying to say here is... you are talking a load of unsubstantiated waffle.

Again.

Welcome back! [up] Citizencon is right at the door, try to keep up. ;)

I've heard that rumour before but a long time ago with two differences. the offer apparently happened right after the funding really took off years ago, so there was less debt and missed dates. Then there was a second part, CR went back to them much later and they said no.

Oh    , you don't need to know ANYTHING about game development to state the game is two years late and still terrible, buggy mess. You don't need to be an MD to say that a bone sticking out of someone's thigh is a bad thing.

Again.

250 million for this heap of junk? Delusional what he is. There is no way that is even remotely on the radar. EA has a killer game plan of just releasing COD's until the sun explodes. They wouldn't want the super small fan base SC has, mostly due to them being so radical. Yikes, that's one heck of a rumor to be spreading...

Don't need to be Gordon Ramsey to know a bucket of hot diarrhea isn't going to taste nice, especially when sucked through a pig farmers sock.

That's actually a good analogy of how I see the entire project tbh.

Interestingly, I make the same expression when contemplating either.

Yeah, I'd say that was nonsense.

EA has their own IP (COD EDIT 3: NOPE I was thinking of Battlefield & Battlefront, Mass Effect - both of which have upcoming releases - and Wing Commander... oddly enough), their own studios with proven track records, and their own set of problems. To make a profit on a $250m+ figure they'd need to make an insane number of additional sales on top of the current user base which would make Sqenix's problems with overspend on Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and etc look pedestrian.

If I were EA I'd be watching the Star Citizen project with interest, but (as they have the reputation for being basically Satan :p ) unless I could see a way of making easy money out of CIG I'd not be interested.... unless there was a chance of hoovering the assets up for a dime and spending as little extra cash as possible to either 1) use in another IP or 2) make a quick buck from a new userbase.

EDIT: Either way the current Star Citizen users will be left high and dry. If it comes to a 3rd party buyout you can guarantee that they will not be beholden to CIG's promises. If this ever does happen the legal shennaingans will be something worth seeing. From afar.

EDIT 2: Funnily enough EA's buying of BioWare pretty much sunk any hope of future Wing Commander games. BioWare have shown themselves to be daddies of narrative-driven scifi & fantasy RPGs/RPG-lites, and did so well before EA's purchase - Baldur's Gate, basically.

I'll indulge in some "If.."

If SC doesn't release until 2018 and
If ED Season 3 is space legs

Won't there be more or less parity of features at that point?

Who are you calling parroty features? :p

EA has the star wars licence, why on gods green earth would they want star citizen?

Not wrong, but the thing is I expect space legs to be as stable as the rest of ED when it's released. And if you look at the size of ED's spaceships it's obvious even to an untrained non-game dev eye they planned from the start that they would be big enough to walk about in, no glitching sideways through the hull whilst crouching down to squeeze up the immersion corridor for us. That's what comes from planning I suppose.
