Again with the overreaction, Wing Commander IV also had a big cast, it's normal in bigbudget +AAA campaign games: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114950/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast
This may seem obvious to me but you are aware there have been an awful lot of other games out since then with smaller casts?

Normal for a CR 'game'/movie with a few shootem up bits perhaps, rare otherwise.

Just seems bizarre to me though - would be much more interested in quality scriptwriters.

Just look at the old Freelancer trailers, they contain years two.

It's even more fun when you know that whales were trying to convince us in this very forum thread that 42 is going to be released in 2016 for sure, when I told them its very unlikely and impossible about 3/4 of a year ago.

And just to be clear: 2017 is as unlikely, too.
truly you predicted this back in start of this year.
Time for some speculations from the past regard of release dates

also start of this year nobody really believed that sq42 would release at end of 2016, even when the oldman trailer told us that the release would be in 2016

Just for the records- I had a vision. Teh iNterWebz called me last night. I now know that SQ42 will be released in the Christmas Holidays of 2017- possibly 2018 the latest.
And it'll take a good month of patch to fix the most blatant issues.

And the first guy to finish the SP campaign will take roughly 8 hours.

In the name of Braben, Roberts and Bell. Amen.
Here- you heard it here first. Remember my name.

What I like the most about this revolutionary open-development project is the omnipresence of hearsay in any debate. Most often somebody has said something in one of the shows that hints something, or somebody spoke to 'a developer' without recording the conversation giving a condensed summary afterwards, sometimes there are just rumors flying around without any traceable source. Any of this does not prevent all the sides in this debate to create arguments on this far fetched base of 'knowledge' that is, in other words, absolutely worthless. For me this is the most absurd element in this story because you would think an open-development project would strive to reduce the amount of uncertainty regarding the development progress.

I missed this one earlier. I agree with most of it. It makes me think they just let this stuff fester because when it comes down to it that keeps the money rolling in (though some say it's dwindled/dwindling somewhat).

They know they have a broad core support that will accept anything CIG says without question and support it fervently - where this gets amusing is when the narrative does an about face and the support has to be just as fervent in the opposite direction - see PG for the most obvious example.

But if for example CIG were to come out and flatly say no SQ42 till Q4 2017 at the earliest that would clearly harm some of the support (not the core) and damage ongoing funding. So it makes absolute sense for them to keep being as vague as possible and the status quo remains.

They must be progressing greatly and all it takes for them to make our Space game of forever a reality, is you to buy an additional Idris! :D

I'm wondering where one might make enquiries as to the successful procurement of an additional Idris?!

:D

Sorry but I had to.

That was just one example, most of the big campaign games have a big cast: Witcher 3, Uncharted 4, COD's ...

Back to the topic at hand. How can I buy a more expensive Idris?

Wait for the showcase of the Polaris Corvette (smallest of the UEE capital ships), should be announced at Citizencon!

Gamestar.de released their interview with Chris Roberts in which he talks about the state of Squadron42, delays etc.

Witcher 3 and Uncharted 4 have not had a cast anything like what SQ42 has.

Witcher 3 had Charles Dance. The only Holywood/Household name in the title.

CoD has had John Malkovich, Kiefer Sutherland, Gary Oldman, Kevin Spacey and a few others particularly in advertising campaigns.

Elder Scrolls Oblivion had Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean

Fable has seen a few British actors - Sean Penn, Stephen Fry, Johnathan Ross, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Fassbender

Rome Total War had Brian Blessed

Mass Effect had Seth Green

Fallout 3 had Liam Neeson

Samuel L Jackson was in GTA SA

None of the above listed have anywhere near as much talent as SQ42. Most have one in the game at most. Not 10+

Wow, was that 6 posts in the comments before someone mentions Voldemort?...

I was referring to quantity of the actors, not the pedigree. But yeah Squadron 42 probably features the most impressive amount of acting talent ever gathered for a video-game. "It's gona be a cracker"

Witcher 3 - nope
Uncharted 4 - er.... nope
COD:BO - oooh dear again nope.

Could you give me a link to one of these big games that does actually have a cast list of people I recognise from t'movies? I'm having trouble finding one - no problem if it takes you a minute I couldn't think of any
I believe the point was not that there are lots of recognisable names, but that there is a large cast in general.

What Squadron 42 will have that a lot of other games don't, is not only the *voice* of the actor, but also the *likeness*. I would guess that pushes the cost more into the realms of TV / movie work and less in the realms of voice acting work (which is generally less well paid). The use of a lot of recognisable actors will be costing this project a *lot*.

Companies hire big stars because they bring people to cinemas. There's actually very few big screen stars which are high class actors in their own right - there are enough lesser known actors doing more amazing job, especially regarding games. Hiring big cast for a game is only thing CR is known for. Sometimes it works amazingly well (WCIV) and sometimes it works with less stellar results (WCIII).

Yeah, but having a large number of professional voice actors isn't a supposed selling point, it's a standard feature.

But yeah Squadron 42 probably features the most impressive amount of acting talent ever gathered for a video-game.

You'bve just contradicted your previous point. But, leaving that out, I'll happily say that SC has the largest and most expensive number of film actors in a computer game. Which you're using as a selling point.

To be honest I'd rather have voice actors as, in many cases, film actors don't have voice-over experience. Note: IMO movement capture is a red herring. It's an expensive way of character modelling for a game, and it would also be a lot cheaper to hire jobbing actors (or folks with military experience) to do the movement and then "overdub" the main cast's features.

"It's gona be a cracker"

It might be. However it also might not.
